It was quite scary for me^^ But then again I also had a few edibles beforehand so that for sure didnt help the situation at allxD Espacially with how long they linger on certain shots. That was just the worst for me then. The anxiety guys, I'll tell ya.

I saw the American remake back in 2004, when I was literally a little kid in 3rd or 4th grade. It scared me so much, I looked like I was having a seizure (from shivering so much) by the time the last scene where Kayako crawls down the stairs showed up. I became fascinated with the films and ended up asking my dad to look for the originals, which we watched together. I think Ju-On will always be my favorite Japanese horror movie.

In my opinion the grunge was always better than The Ring. The bad feeling that leaves you every time that I do not spend with any other horror movie. The "curse" has been shows to display great powers 1. it has the power possess people that went inside the Saeki house to torment them and torment others 2. the curse can be passed on people that interacted with the ones that went into the Saeki house 3. the curse has the ability to do time manipulation and time travel as how the detective was able to see her daughter all grown up inside the Saeki house when she and her classmates went inside, as well as the adult daughter managed to see her father in the past at the same time

I love this movie so much. To me, the one thing that really gets me in a horror movie and makes it stay in my mind is the atmosphere, and I can't really think of a movie that does atmosphere better than this one or its sequel, everything from the cinematography to the sound design works together to create an atmosphere of pure dread and isolation. It's brilliant.

Correct!!! But it was the first to be given a theatrical release as both its predecessors “Ju-on: The Curse” & “Ju-on: The Curse 2” went straight to video in 2000. EXTRA FUN FACT: Although its true that this movie was the 3rd in the Ju-on series, it is actually the 4th installment of the whole saga. That is if u include the 1998 short film “Katasumi and 4444444444”. Without it; some elements of “Ju-On: The Curse” will make absolutely no sense. But fear not… the movies that came before has little or no bearing on the events in “Ju-on: The Grudge” 😅

Fun-Fact: Some of the side-characters also died off-screen because the Ju-On movies are actually feature-length sequels to a couple of short films. The series acted to flesh out the short films' ideas, including the friends and family of the characters killed within them. The shorts are only a few minutes each and can be found on KZfaq, although not at the highest quality.

I grew up with these horror characters ( Sadako from The Ring, Toshio and Kayako from Ju-on: The Grudge) starring in my dreams and imagination, it was really scary for me especially when we were just kids under 10 years old when we first watched it and it always come to mind when someone asked me what films I could recommend. Like I really I avoided watching TV alone for years, I will unplug it then ran to hide in the room and I can't handle the static of the TV because of the well. The originals are really memorable, and no offense but compared to the American films based on these stories, it never reaches the expectations I have when you have these original films haunting your sleep. It's like these films became the standard for me, even though American based was scary but it didn't reach the top scales. I already forgot the premise of the film, I mostly remember the horrifying characters. I was ok with that so it will not fuel my imagination more than it does, but I clicked this video small part because of nostalgia but more to see the appreciation you will have for them. I remember aside from these we watched Shutter from Thailand, some creepy stuffs from one missed call, The Eye and other films I can't remember the titles anymore. Thank you for being scared 😁 and appreciating these old films.

Great review guys .. came across your channel from your Raid reviews ...#subscribed .. great debrief analysis of the film .. this was the first Asian horror film I saw years ago and it does a great job in creating an overall unsettling atmosphere all the way through with some inventive scary scenes ... the director of this film actually directed the american remake which is quite rare hence why for me out of all the asian horror remakes (The Ring, Dark Water, The Eye, Pulse, Shutter, One Missed Call etc) I'd probably say The Grudge (2004) is the best American remake done ..... I would defo recommend 'A Tale Of Two Sisters' (also had an american remake made called 'The Uninvited') and 'Gonjiam: Haunted Asylum' .... 2 top Asian horror fims 👍also the 2 highest grossing horror films in South Korea 👍

Japenese and Korean horrors are the best. I used to watch a Korean program, with every episode 3 horror stories. I remember one, where a huge spider, with a woman's head, was chasing cars.

Look up the yūrei, a classic Japanese folklore tale. Kayako and Sadako are both yūrei, specifically onryō, or vengeful spirits.

The american remake was incredible and made me jump out of my seat in the theatre, but the original Ju-On is still way more creepier..I think it's about the more simple way that movie was made ( with probably a much lower budget) The strongest aspect of the original is its musical score...I recently got a copy of the Japanese score and it feels so more raw and scary than the big budget score of Christopher Young. It profes to me that budget isn't everything and the basic sound and feel of a movie can be done with the most basic technology. Thank you for reviewing this classic and still haunting Japanese movie; it belongs to my all time favorite movies

My friend and I decided to watch this back when Netflix was a service that delivered DVDs-- it had more Asian content in that format. We turned it on in my family's "computer room" (remember, old days). The DVD menu-- the MENU -- scared us so much we turned it off and watched South Park for an hour or so . Then we gathered ourselves to watch it 😱

Guys if you liked these two films I highly recommend a Japanese horror film called "Noroi: The Curse" (2005). It is a classic, but unlike The Ring it remained a cult film within Japan. I think it is even better than these two others!

You both know that the director of The Grudge (2004) and Ju-On have the same director? He’s done a lot of Ju-On movies (most were direct to video) with Ju-On: The Grudge being the first theatrical movie in the series.
