I've always made it a big deal when I see poorly written female characters because I was around 6-8 when I first watched these films. I genuinely didn't understand how a man could write these characters while other writers made most female main characters very emotionally and/or physically weak. You're completely right when you said he ate this one thing☠

Unfortunately, the female characters in this movie were still sexualised in some scenes, for example Gogo fighting in a mini skirt (and being 17 years old) Quentin's foot fetish (Uma's foot).

I like the theory that Oren and The Bride were really good friends. 1. The bride knows her origin story and Oren isn’t really the type to tell that to anyone 2. The bride is fluent in Japanese 3. When the bride kills her she never turns back and looks at Oren 4. Also maybe that’s why Oren is the first on her list because they were besties idk

I think this is confirmed by the fact that she calls Oren out in Chinese, rather than Japanese. It's an especially deep cut and perfectly illustrates the depth of betrayal that the Bride must have felt.

I love this movie so much. The fight sequences are incredible and The Bride and O-Ren are such badasses. The insinuated former relationship between them is some of the best read between the lines storytelling in cinema.

I loved your edit. When it was the boardroom scene of Lucy Liu, I thought "this is the reaction I've been waiting to watch from all the reactions I've seen of this movie". It was so perfect. I don't know if you included it but the part where the guy next to him like breaks out his fan is definitely one of my favorites. And you're right, Uma Thurman 100% did a copy and paste with her daughter

Fun fact, there was supposed to be an animated film about Oren Ishii and her story (an expansion on the animation here) but it’s one of many Kill Bill themed projects that Tarantino just never pursued. Can’t wait for Vol. 2!

@@thefr33kyshowTo be fair, the Bride didn’t bring any weapons, and attacked Vernita on her own turf, so I think it was more than fair. Secondly, a handgun is very inaccurate in general, and shooting one out of a cereal box without aiming has a low chance of scoring a hit at even a short distance. Thirdly, Vernita attacked The Bride when she was clearly pregnant, so trying to use her own child as leverage was really more motive for The Bride’s revenge, so I think justice was served. Lastly, her skin color is completely incidental and irrelevant to the story, and I think Jackie Brown shows how much QT loves him some black ladies, because Jackie is one of his most badass characters ever IMO. 😁

This is definitely one of Quentin's best tbh! Like he really put his and Uma's foot in this 🤭. Every woman in this movie was serving down! Definitely react to Vol. 2 and maybe Death Proof. It's super underrated, but one of my favorite movies!

when you mentioned Black Mamba's yellow suit, it's actually a homage to the suit of Jeet Kune Do legend Bruce Lee. Like he was the OG of ALL martial art movies... from Jackie Chan to Van Damme to MMA fighting... Chu! So glad you were finally able to watch this classic. Def my favorite QT film and the fight with Vivica gives me life each time. I know you are getting back on your horror movie kick so I would also recommend "Grindhouse," a double feature QT did with Robert Rodriguez (Sin City, From Dusk Til Dawn, etc.) that features "Planet Terror" and "Deathproof," both of which fit into the horror genre. Can't wait for Vol. 2! ⚔

Man this movie was *explosive* in the theater. Everybody cheered numerous times & loudly groaned at gross stuff🤭. But in the best way. The noise of Gogo’s meteor hammer (chain mace) slicing the air, circling around her head I hear whenever I think of Kill Bill. It was so heavy & menacing. Of all the noises…it’s that noise I think of first. And the Bride’s kill noise second. So good to see someone else flippin’ love it, too.🖖
