Pitch Perfect Movie Description:
College student Beca (Anna Kendrick) knows she does not want to be part of a clique, but that's exactly where she finds herself after arriving at her new school. Thrust in among mean gals, nice gals and just plain weird gals, Beca finds that the only thing they have in common is how well they sing together. She takes the women of the group out of their comfort zone of traditional arrangements and into a world of amazing harmonic combinations in a fight to the top of college music competitions.
Pitch Perfect is a 2012 American musical comedy film directed by Jason Moore and written by Kay Cannon. It features an ensemble cast, including Anna Kendrick, Skylar Astin, Rebel Wilson, Adam DeVine, Anna Camp, Brittany Snow, Hana Mae Lee, Alexis Knapp, Ester Dean, Kelley Jakle, Shelley Regner, Wanetah Walmsley, Ben Platt, Utkarsh Ambudkar, John Michael Higgins, and Elizabeth Banks. The plot follows Barden University's all-girl a cappella group, the Barden Bellas, as they compete against another a cappella group from their college to win Nationals. The film is loosely adapted from Cornell University alum Mickey Rapkin's non-fiction book, titled Pitch Perfect: The Quest for Collegiate a Cappella Glory and director Jason Moore's own experiences at his alma mater, Northwestern University. Filming concluded in December 2011, in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
The film premiered in Los Angeles on September 24, 2012 and was released on October 5, 2012 in the United States. The film received generally positive reviews from critics and became a sleeper hit, earning over $115 million worldwide. It is the first film in the film series and was followed by two sequels, Pitch Perfect 2 (2015) and Pitch Perfect 3 (2017).

Fun fact: Cynthia is played by Ester Dean who wrote a BUNCH of songs for artists like Beyonce, Nikki Minaj, and Rihanna. In fact, she wrote S&M for Rihanna, so having her sing it in this film was like an homage for her. Basically if you heard any of the hit songs from female artists in the 2010's up to now in 2023 Ester Dean probably wrote and/or produced it. Give her discography a check-over when you get a chance, it's very impressive.

She's also one of the judges on a great show called "Songland" where aspiring songwriters pitch songs to established artists. She is INCREDIBLY talented in hearing something and going, "That's cool but what if you did THIS" and making it shine. I love her.

I sang a cappella in college and this movie got a few things right, especially the weird mix of rivalries and hookups between groups. In real life there's a lot less choreography, though, and not so much emphasis on competing (although competitions do exist). I still love this movie. ETA - the weird alumni trying to relive their glory days is also accurate.

I was in school when they were on campus filming this (at LSU) and was actually watching them film the scene out on the blanket when the guy is talking about movies. A group of guys near me were holding up signs written on their notebooks trying to get Anna Kendrick’s number 😂😂

I love this movie so much. I don't know what it is, but that last performance always ALWAYS brings tears to my eyes and I still don't fully understand why. As a music fan I loved this concept for a movie because there were no instrumentals other than the voices and that's so impressive. Please do a first time watch on the other two movies from this franchise. They don't disappoint. Thanks for the watch!

Watched the 1 and the Second one like 15 Times. Had to Stop Watching the Finally of Movie 2 because i watched it on the Train and a Buisness partner was sitting right next to me. And i knew I was going to cry on the Finally :D Happens everytime on movie 1 and 2 Aaaand on Greatest Showman "This is me" but I didn´t like he 3rd one. Was not a good Ending

Always so glad to see someone who finds the main guy Jesse as annoying as I do! He drives me nuts, and I have always hated the whole "a girl telling you she's not interested means try harder and she will eventually like you" trope, which he plays into a lot too. I spent so much of the movie like "oh my god leave her alone you weirdo"

It's been 10 years since I saw this movie. And I'm still mad about how the riff off scene ended.😠 For those who don't know what a riff off is. The rules of a riff off are simple. You must sing a song that fits the category, and the first word of the song has to match the last word of the song sung before. This is usually played with multiple people or groups.

In the 2010s, without a doubt. Undeniable pop culture moment. It's funny how things come together for a movie like this. The basis of the film is purely non-fictional. Actress Elizabeth Banks who plays one of the commentators, she and her husband (producers of the whole trilogy) brought this story to the big screen. Based on a memoir about real acapella groups, "Pitch Perfect: The Quest for Collegiate a Cappella Glory". The director, Jason Moore utilized his own college experiences into his vision. From the first trailer, i was interested. A unedited clip of The Riff-off on the movie's youtube channel really had me wanting to see it. The characters in their relationships, the acapella performances and the direction of the film were all good fun. The songs selections are crazy. Almost every single one was familiar. I liked when the Barden-bellas did Blackstreet's No Diggity during the Riff-off (had me hype too). Cups (When I'm Gone) by Anna Kendrick was a huge record for the film and the actress herself. She ended up in involved with 2 other musicals, Into The Woods (2014) and The Trolls' franchise. The first film won 8 consecutive awards. Parts 2 and 3 aren't too bad (both directed by Elizabeth Banks). The spinoff series with Adam Devine, "Bumper in Paris" on Peacock had one season with another season on the way.
