Sonic The Hedgehog Movie Description:
The world needed a hero -- it got a hedgehog. Powered with incredible speed, Sonic embraces his new home on Earth -- until he accidentally knocks out the power grid, sparking the attention of uncool evil genius Dr. Robotnik. Now, it's supervillain vs. supersonic in an all-out race across the globe to stop Robotnik from using Sonic's unique power to achieve world domination.
Sonic the Hedgehog is a 2020 action-adventure comedy film directed by Jeff Fowler (in his feature directorial debut) and written by Pat Casey and Josh Miller, based on the video game franchise published by Sega. It stars Ben Schwartz as the voice of Sonic with the rest of the cast consisting of James Marsden, Tika Sumpter, and Jim Carrey. It is the first installment in a planned Sonic the Hedgehog film series. The film follows Sonic the Hedgehog (voiced by Schwartz), a hedgehog who can run supersonic speeds as he teams up with local town sheriff Tom Wachowski (Marsden) to stop the sinister mad scientist Dr. Robotnik (Carrey), who seeks to use Sonic's superpowers to conquer the Earth.
Development for a Sonic film began in the 1990s but did not leave the planning stage until Sony Pictures acquired the rights in 2013. Fowler was brought in to direct in 2016. After Sony put the project in turnaround, Paramount Pictures acquired it in 2017. Most of the cast signed on by August 2018, and principal filming took place between September and October that year in Vancouver and on Vancouver Island. Following the negative reaction to the first trailer in 2019, Paramount delayed the film by three months to redesign Sonic.
Sonic the Hedgehog premiered at the Paramount Pictures studio lot on January 25, 2020, before being theatrically released in the United States on February 14, 2020, by Paramount Pictures. It set the record for the biggest opening weekend for a video game film in the United States and Canada and grossed $319.7 million worldwide, becoming the sixth-highest-grossing film of 2020, and is the highest-grossing video game film adaptation of all time in North America. It received mixed reviews from critics, who praised the action scenes, Sonic's charm, and Schwartz, Marsden and Carrey's performances, but criticized its screenplay, product placement, and lack of ambition. Sonic the Hedgehog 2 is scheduled for release in April 2022. A third film and a spin-off series starring Knuckles are in development.

Sonic the hedgehog 2006 game on xbox was my favorite sonic game. As far as the whole franchise i would say shadow the hedgehog game that came out on ps2 i wish they would make another sonic and shadow story mode game instead of sonic go kart all the time.

This movie was way better than it had any right to be. I went in expecting to hate-watch it, and by the 20 minute mark, I was laughing and having a good time. Looking forward to the sequel.

My 81 year old grandma and I used to play Sonic all the time back in the day. Sonic, Mario, & Bandicoot was her jams and she still plays them for fun and to help with her coordination. This is one of her all time favorite movies, having watched it countless times. I love it too and Jim Carrey's performance in this movie is one of my favorites by him. We can't wait for the sequel to come out it should be pretty good from what we seen in the trailer.

Remember the Trailer? 😅 This movie is so much more awesome. And I'm glad, they took their time to re-do the cg for Sonic. Although at the same time kind of angry that they had to close down that studio afterwards. Hope those artists all found new, better jobs. They definitely deserve a raise for their work here....

I'm a Proud owner of the original 2nd Sonic the Hedgehog on my rusty, trusty Sega Genesis that has been in my family since 1993! Sonic still races the hills at my home and even managed to survive a real-life water level by being in a 3-inch deep flooding that happened! The entire console and cartridge were both underwater for a significant period of time and yet after 2 months of drying off, it's back to Emerald Hills I go with Sonic and Tails gathering rings and fighting Robotnik as if nothing happened! To this day, I have never beat the game... I'm too slow for it! LOL! I'll get there someday though. I loved Jim Carrey's and Ben Schwartz' performances! They were fitting roles!

Its crazy that during the bar fight scene, Sonic appeared to go his usual speed while dancing with the sparklers on the one guy, as well as with the guy wrapped up in toilet paper. But I just realized that he was going at that speed while already going so fast that time stopped. That's insane

Funnily enough, the human couple in Sonic are called Wachowski, which is the name of the creators of The Matrix. They also made the Speed Racer film in which they utilised bullet time to even greater effect.

20:39 - Part of the reason these movies are so good is because Jeff Fowler, the director, is someone who personally worked on some of the Sonic games, and is a huge fan of the franchise. So yeah, get the right person and you'll get something good.

My favorite sonic game is sonic 3. I remember one year for my birthday my mom bought me a new sega & sonic 3. When I got older I learned that combining it with sonic & knuckles makes what was supposed to be the full sonic 3 game. So, "sonic 3 & knuckles" is definitely my favorite game 🤘

To this day, I refuse to watch the original trailer. Funny story, that design was Paramount's call because they thought it would generate enough buzz on the internet to turn a profit and get publicity. They knew it would get negative press, but they didn't know it was going to be as bad as it was, and that's why they changed their time and ordered the almost finished film to be completely reanimated.

Was a Sonic fan in my tweens, and this was the game that made me a gamer. Played the original STH on Genesis, but my favorite Sonic game of the era was SONIC CD. The first game to introduce Amy, but what really made me call it my favorite was the time travel mechanic... yes that is right... TIME TRAVEL.

My only game was Sonic Adventure DX (I still have CD) and back in my school days I played a lot and managed to end all character's stories except for the last Sonic's battle. It was crazy hard. And about the movie, I was prepared for a disappointment, like it was with Pokemon: detective Pikachu but surprisingly that was good!

@9:15 Though it is merely an hypothesis. That nightmare one was never the original design. They needed a bit more attention, get some eye balls, make the news, and it was a hush hush secret amongst like the 5-10 people to make it work. Actually quite brilliant when you think about it. Put something SO bad up people look at it, act like it's a big deal, 'delay' the movie to fix it, while knowing it was a troll all along. Like I said, theory.

I love that the Sonic The Hedgehog film was Jim Carrey's comeback. He is and always will be my favorite comedian and actor even though sometimes he can be a jerk. I kinda relate to him though. I’ll admit I kinda am a jerk sometimes but it happened because of how the world is. A big hell hole.
