Nice interpretation, There is a doco on KZfaq where the Coens say that they were inspired by Raymond chandler novels. And Chandler said that 'scenes were more important than plot'. I found it interesting to review it from that angle

Yes, the dude pretty much is breaking the 4th wall by just his presence. The only moment where he takes initiative is in the porn producers mansion, where is he is trying figure out what he just wrote and that leads to nothing.

I highly recommend Fargo. I think it's the most like Big Lebowski in how absurdly funny it is. Plus, Steve Buscemi gets a much bigger role (different character) in it. Also stars William H. Macy and Frances McDormand in major roles. Great stuff.

@@CristyReacts You'll love him in Tombstone. Seriously. He stole every scene. He ought to have won an Oscar for his performance as Doc Holiday, Wyatt Earp's friend. Sadly he was passed over. He was rummored dead, but he is alive, battling throat cancer and said to be in remission. If you find that you enjoy the Western genre, you might want to watch OPEN Range (2003) Kevin Costner, Robert Duvall, Annette Bening. Or DANCES WITH WOLVES (1990) Kevin Costner, Graham Greene. The reason that Walter keeps telling Donny to shut up, is because in Fargo, Steve Buscemi's character never stopped talking. So the Coen Brothers wanted Donny to shut up. Apparently Buscemi thought it was funny.
@andreasbenning
@andreasbenning 10 ай бұрын
I heard a theory somewhere, that Donny doesn't exist. Only in Walters head, since Donny and the Dude never have any direct interactions with each other. Buuuuut, when Donny gets his heart attack the Dude is there, and the whole ash-spreading scene wouldn't make sense if it was true, would it? But I just find it an interesting theory, and since hearing it I've really noticed that they actually never talk to each other.

It was the perfect mix in some respects, the birth of easily accessible internet and digital tech but we weren't swamped by it. If someone told you about a new band for example you had to put a little work in to hear them and find out about them, not just stream them on Spotify. I was 13 in 1990 so it really was the decade of my teenage years and early twenties. It was a blast.

My favourite little detail about the movie is when you think about it, Walter is always right!! 😂, he’s not as crazy as we think he is, he was right about bunny faking the kidnapping, that it wasn’t her toe, the fake briefcase stuffed with cash, his only real mistake was he got over-confident thinking Lebowski could walk at the end 😂

In fairness the Dude first mentioned the possibility that the kidnapping was phony, Walter just grabbed the idea and wouldn't let go. He was right about the toe because he was committed to the kidnapping being fake and therefore rejected evidence suggesting otherwise. He is more, to put it properly, cynical about people and bull-headed. Add in the violence and he is just a typical American.

As to pronouncing Los Angeles with a hard g, mayor Sam Yorty and my father used to do that. Good that you noticed the ransom echo from FARGO. They are both million-dollar ransoms for a wife. In both films, Steve Buscemi says, “in and out.” The Dude is eager to give 4 dollars because Carl is reluctant to give 4 dollars in FARGO. Peter Stormare wants pancakes in both films. Bunny Lebowski is originally from Moorhead Minnesota, the city next to . . . Fargo. Coen films often connect with each other.

80's - 90s, had the practical feel to how things were done, and the emerging technology but the even better part was, seeing the changes that technology brought, living that. It was such an expansive time, so many possibilities of what could happen as new things came along. AI might do that, people are saying it will, I'm not totally convinced yet but even a portion of that positivity, right now, would be very welcome.

Curious Cristy Have you invested in an external hard drive to save your full length reactions. I imagine eventually you’ll be launching a Patreon where movie reactors traditionally put up their full length reactions that people can watch while playing their own copy of the movie at home. @@CristyReacts Most Patreon’s will play a bit of the movie at the beginning in the corner to give the viewer a chance to sync up the movie along with you before then blurring the image to avoid copyright issues. And I’d specifically suggest an external hard drive with a lot of space as you’ll need a lot of free space for video. And the number of times a movie reactor has lost their video reaction because of some issue with their computer is many. Having multiple full length reactions ready to load up on your Patreon whenever you may launch it will definitely help it grow from the start.

On subsequent viewings, I've found it funnier and funnier. I was in high school in the early 90's, best part was no cell phones, no social media ect, we got away with literally crazy shit no one could today I mean like ending up in jail stuff, nothing bad like hurting anyone or anything but like partying under age, stealing booze from the liquor store/grocery stores, getting caught naked in strange places with strange people some times, spring breaks in Panama City were even crazier, like literally you could do anything and if you ran away without getting physically caught you were good... oh and shit was cheap like you could eat at a fast food place pretty good for like $2.50 that'd get you 4-5 tacos or bean burrito's and a drink from Taco Bell or the buffet and a drink at Wendy's (who remembers when Wendy's the hamburger joint had buffets with like taco bar and salads and such on them?), music was amazing with the grunge era, malls were big like literally spent every day after school or on the weekends at the mall just hanging out and you'd see everyone from school there. We had it good one of my friends lived with his grand parents and they let us do everything, they had a pool, when it was warm it was literally every day drinking beer smoking weed and naked cheerleaders in the pool. Like I said I'm very happy I grew up before the internet and social media and cell phones with cameras built in. Go watch The Dadbod Veteran's videos about growing up Gen X he nails it.

Walter is based on the American screenwriter John Millius. He looks like him, wears the same glasses and beard and has the same militaristic approach to life. He calls himself a "Zen fascist". If you're cosplaying Walter, you might be confused for John Millius.

Clerks and The Big Lebowski are the most wildly overrated movies in the history of American cinema

Ohh someone else recommended Clerks-- maybe I'll skip it. Quick question out of sheer curiosity... if TBL is so overrated, why are you out here watching reactions to it?

@@CristyReacts Ah, good question. I enjoy watching movie reactions in general, so they’re popping up in my feed all the time. I didn’t search for TBL reactions
