The two hardest lines in this movie for me- “He killed them with their love. Their love for each other…” “I'm tired, boss. Tired of bein' on the road, lonely as a sparrow in the rain. I'm tired of never having me a buddy to be with, to tell me where we's going to or coming from, or why. Mostly, I'm tired of people being ugly to each other. I'm tired of all the pain I feel and hear in the world every day. There's too much of it - it's like pieces of glass in my head, all the time. Can you understand?”

I can watch The Shawshank Redemption anytime. It's about friendship, redemption and hope, is uplifting and pulls at the heart strings. The Green Mile is just as masterfully done but leaves me sad and frankly disappointed in the terrible things human beings are capable of. John as miracle of God was disappointed too and didn't want to be around it anymore. I guess in a way it inspires me to try to be a better person. Anyway, I'm glad you both enjoyed the film together and it made you feel something to reflect on.

The Green Mile I personally am affected more deeply by. I saw it with my mom when it came out and I must gave consumed a gallon of water watching it. And yes, that's Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers in the flicker show Top Hat. The book BTW was originally released as a serial novel in six parts, one per month, which was an exciting way to read it. It's brilliant and Darabont followed it to a T.

I still think Wild Bill was something too. Like the opposite of John Coffey. Where one was light and kindness, the other was darkness and cruelty. I mean, they drugged him, but yet he still got up. And he looked wiped after grabbing John, like that sight goes both ways. Difference is, I don't think Bill knew what he was, whereas John knew he had his power. Makes one pretty thankful that if Bill really was some dark creature, the antithesis to John's light, he never figured out what his curse on the world was.

A very close and very artistically blessed friend of mine met Frank Darabont and his wife a short while back. They commissioned her to draw their dogs and have since been a pair of guardian angels for her in dark times. He also gave her a book of artwork by artist Drew Struzan (illustrator behind the posters for Back to Future, Hook, and Harry Potter amongst many others). Mr Struzan not only signed it but wrote a very encouraging message inside the book for her and praised her work. She had studied his work when in school down in Socal. Her mind was thoroughly blown lol I remember when she called me after this all happened and we just screamed. It was so surreal! 😆

There is no shame in crying while watching the green mile. I am a man and I watched it the first time when I was 26 years old and cried during the movie and especially when John Coffey was executed. I've watched it several times since then and that scene always brings tears to my eyes. I loved your honest and sincere reaction to this masterpiece! I.m.o. the character John Coffey was an angel living around humans. The pain and suffering that people cause each other were almost too much for him to bear and on top of that he had a child-like innocence & genuinely tried to help people. It was sad to watch him die on the electric chair, but luckily he was surrounded by people that believed in his innocence and loved him. And I tend to believe that good people and mere angels amongst us move on to a much better place after they leave this earth. While "The Green Mile" is in part a pretty sad movie, it's one of my all-time favorite movies together with Shawshank Redemption.

The original Green Mile came out in chapters , one a month. I was on a boating holiday on the grand Union canal and was lucky enough to pick the first four books. This movie, Shawkshank and Stand by me are proof that King's books in the right hands can be adapted properly.

Have a look at Needful Things, Misery, and IT! if you haven't too Scott, they're bangers too. Also, King wrote 'The Running Man' book too, adapted into (The 1987 Arnold Schwarzenegger movie), but he wrote it under his pseudo-name 'Richard Bachman'.

@@KingSidJames Hahaha, 'his number one fan,' that was a good touch, it made me chuckle. Yeah, I've got most of his hard-backs, I think the only one I haven't got is 'The Gunslinger' but I have a lot of problems reading anyway... I just like collecting stuff. The thing I like doing is collecting movies. Yeah, some of the movies aren't great, I agree. The Shining movie was boring to me, I don't know what all the fuss was about, apparently King hated the adaptation from his book, so I understand. (I haven't read it anyway).🙂
@KingSidJames
@KingSidJames Жыл бұрын
@TrigJosh yeh I agree. The Shinning is a very inferior movie compared to the book. King compared the movie to a car striped of its chrome. They need to do a tv adaption of the dark tower and give it the same budget as a Game of Thrones.
@trigjosh
@trigjosh Жыл бұрын
@@KingSidJames I think they did a physical media release of The Dark Tower a few years back and it wasn't very good, I think it was going to be a series of movies. I'm not certain, but i think that plans for further movies of The Dark Tower have been cancelled. Apparently, there's a bit of a buzz around King stories atm, that are going to be made into movies, and some that have already been released, like Christine, are going to be remade. So we'll have to see what the future holds for those.

Watching reactors see this movie is such a treat. When our favorite parts come we are glued to see how you respond. There is no problem with letting the tears fall. I cry along with just about all of them when it comes. There's something relieving about crying. It helps. Percy had a serious case of the Napoleon complex Between TGM and Shawshank Redemption.... too close to chose but there's nothing wrong with watching both back to back.

For me, the top 2 Stephen King movies/series both came out in 1999, The Green Mile and 3-part miniseries Storm of the Century, which is King's only original story (to my knowledge) that he wrote specifically for television.

Alfred Porter Southwick Southwick. Alfred Porter Southwick (1826-1898) was a steam-boat engineer, dentist and inventor from Buffalo, New York. He is credited with inventing the electric chair as a method of legal execution. We Claim him regardless of how gruesome his invention is. William Francis Kemmler William Francis Kemmler (May 9, 1860 - August 6, 1890) was an American peddler, alcoholic, and murderer, who, in 1890, became the first person in the world to be executed by electric chair.

Great reactions. Stephen King and Frank Darabont are two great filmmakers. I honestly can't choose between Green Mile and Shawshank Redemption for my favorite. One thing I noticed, for the first two executions (Bittebuck and Del), the camera shows primarily how the the two men are affected. Not too many shots of the guards. For John Coffey, after the initial shot of John, it's all about the reactions of the guards, and how they were affected by John. Something I haven't seen by any of the reactors I've watched, Paul says he's 108 and Mr. Jingles is still alive WAY past when a mouse should have died. No one has ever mentioned; How long had JOHN been alive, working his magic?

That execution scene was based on a real life event where they didn't realize a synthetic sponge caused an inmate to burst into flames. It is why we don't use the electric chair anymore. The kicker is that the inmate was innocent.

Hi from Lyon - France ;) Don't be ashamed of shedding a few tears when you feel sadness or even joy. That's what makes you a living person. If a scene makes you so sad that your tears must flow, then let them flow. Just like you can't help but laugh at a funny scene and get mad at a guy like Percy ;) The emotions that the cinema provides must be lived........ and not repressed or hidden by drink lol A pleasure to watch you. ( thanks for the subtitle settings ^^ )

When The Green Mile came out nobody mentioned the thing I'm about to mention which I thought was strange since it was quite applicable to the situation. Maybe nobody else watched as much TV as I did. You may or may not remember the TV series Amazing Stories. It was an anthology series produced and created by Steven Spielberg. They just restarted it but this one began in 1985. There's some really cool episodes I won't go into in case you can watch it. But to my point there's an episode with Patrick Swayze called "Life on Death Row". So far so both take place on death row. Patrick Swayze develops healing powers. He touches people and a light goes off around them then they're healed. Any of this sounding vaguely familiar? I'll leave it there to avoid going into spoilers for a 36 year old TV series. I'm so old. I don't get how not one person ever brought up the similarities. They aren't that different ultimately. It's weird.

3:24 I never realized I was the same height as Michael Clarke Duncan until just now. I still feel like he'd tower over me if he was still with us, dude was a treasure. Also, to tie this into the vast majority of King's work, John has the Shine. Or in other words he has a vague magical power that pertains to the story at hand. Sometimes premonitions, sometimes telekinesis, sometimes psychokinesis, always hardly explained but still interesting. I blame the coke that Stephen inhaled like his nose was made of steel. Also John's inspired by Jesus, and the guards the apostles as well, Hanks being John.
