It was an act?" 😢 For real, Peeta grew up with his mom, he should've known he'd get punished for burning a loaf of bread. Why didn't he try to sneak Katniss a clean, dry loaf if he could reasonably predict that he'd be punished for either act? He did literally the least he could do for her, aside from nothing at all. If anything, Katniss was too damaged by the games to deserve Gale.

@@Br0nto5aurus I mean... her dad spent years hunting with her teaching her to hunt. She was starving because her dad died and she didn't dare go outside the district to hunt. She didn't get to know Gale until after that or atleast not as a hunting buddy, after Peeta saved her with the bread. Katniss had been looking for scraps in the garbage and chased away by people (ew a dirty starving kid in our trashcans how rude) and Peeta saw that and burned the bread on purpose even though his mom was going to beat him to give it to her. Should he have gone out in the rain and got even more beaten? Sure that would have been nice, but people keep forgetting that he is 11 years old 😆 Like what do you want from a child who is trying to figure out how to save someone. I don't hate Gale but that he somehow saved her from starving is not true. She turned 12, could by food by putting in her name more times and then went out hunting again. The thing Gale did was look after her family as he had promised her (they promised eachother they would do that, she would look after his brothers if he was chosen).

Johanna's "there's no one left that I love" line is given more context in the books. When Johanna did her first Hunger Games, she played the "innocent sweet girl" and then absolutely wrecked everyone in the Games. She upset a lot of rich Capital folks who didn't gamble/bet on her. As revenge, the Capital took out her family.

no her family is killed because she refused to be a prostitute for snow. it’s touched on more in the books how the capital within a few years of them winning the games wants the tributes as prostitutes. a big example being Finnick. and in the books they talk about altering katniss outfits so the capital doesn’t force her to undergo modification to become more sexually appealing and another reason why they wanted to push the wedding so bad because it also protected them from being viewed in the possibility of that. the one who they punished for the way they won the games was Haymitch, not Johanna. he won by using the arenas force field to launch an axe back at the last girl after she threw it and it killed her and he won. the capital felt it made them look stupid and it was an act of defiance so they killed his family and girlfriend

@themindgayer5367

That may have been part of the reason, but the main reason snow killed her family was because she refused to sell her body to all the fans in the capital she gathered after the games. Snow did the same thing to finnick, only he accepted to protect them. And those two aren't the only ones either, if people in the capital become fond of a tribute, snow basically gives the capital said tribute to keep them happy

Mags knew that she'd end up getting them killed while they wasted time trying to figure out how to save her AND Peeta throughout the games, so she made the decision for them. When she volunteered, she knew she wasn't going to make it. She volunteered because she was old and Annie was still young and already traumatized enough by the first games she was in. Peeta painted Rue as an FU to the people in charge of the games and when Katniss saw it, she understood him and joined in with the Seneca Crane move. Also the whole Elevator thing with Johanna, and the sugar cube thing with Finnick... Katniss had a reputation for being very modest and reserved and they were absolutely messing with her. One of my favorite lines of internal monologue happens right as Katniss has just watched them attack Cinna to throw her off, and then she sees herself surround by water immediately in the arena. She thinks "this is no place for the Girl on Fire" One of my favorite visuals from this movie is Katniss being rescued, lifted into the air with her arms out like (mockingjay) wings, as everything is on fire around her.

And for added context, it's said in the books that she can't walk around very well at all, so she couldn't run from it even if she tried. During the acid fog scene, Katniss actually tries carrying Mags while Finnick carries Peeta, but they're too slow. Mags knows she's just slowing them down and never expected to win anyways, so she bids farewell to Finnick and sacrifices herself. Mags mentored Finnick and the two were legitimately very close - she was like a mother to him.

One thing I really wish they would’ve kept in is Peeta’s physical disability. In the books Peeta has to get a prosthetic leg because he had to get one of his legs amputated because of the first games (his leg injury in the first games is a lot worse and katniss has to put a tourniquet on his leg which is good for a short period of time but tourniquets aren’t meant to be a long term solution so Peeta looses blood flow in his leg and eventually has it amputated.) so that’s why in the books Peeta stumbles around the terrain in the games because he JUST got his prosthetic leg maybe a few months ago. But in the movies it looks like he’s just uselessly stumbling around for no reason. Also Katniss in the books has severe hearing loss in one ear from when she blew up the careers stuff.
@exekyute

I think the capital fixed Katniss’ hearing and she used that as an excuse for how she knew about the force field in the book, said that she could hear a sound in her repaired ear rather than explain the visible glitch so that the gamemakers wouldn’t figure out how to fix it.

The previous Quarter Quell was Haymitch’s games! for his games they doubled the amount of tributes so Haymitch won against 47 kids instead of 23. His arena was described as looking idyllic, with lush meadows, fragrant flowers, beautiful mountains, adorable golden squirrels, and a sparkling lake. but it turned out that virtually everything organic in the arena was toxic, including the water, the squirrels were carnivorous and hunted in packs, and the mountain was a volcano that exploded. haymitch was only set on finding the edge of the arena and along the way teamed up with maysilee. once he found the edge he stayed there only leaving to answer maysilees screams and then hold her as she died. he found that if he chucked something over the edge at the force field it would bounce back. he won when he and the other tribute were both practically dying and then ducking when the district one girl threw her axe and it came back and hit her in the skull.

the reason why president snow is terrified of the possibility of a revolution is because he lost almost everything when he was a child during the first district rebellion. all of his family wealth was destroyed with district 13, his parents died, he had to see capitol people cannibalise each other from hunger, his sister had to sell her body to help feed the remnants of their family and so on. there are prequel books to the series called the ballad of songbirds and snakes, i really recommend it. also explains snow's ptsd from the mokingjay song (i hope it's not considered a spoiler since all of this happen in the book only)

One beautiful detail at the tributes parade. Cinna this time went with more of an ember effects rather that a burning fire (like the first movie) symbolizing the fire in the districts being dormant but there waiting for the right moment. Waiting for Katniss. Is beautiful!

18:36 they didn’t need to impress anyone anymore. Every victor, the game makers, the capitol, the districts know what the 75th tributes can do. They want to show their anger towards the capitol. For 74 years the victors couldn’t be reaped and were promised peace. That’s why peeta painted rue.

The movie misses the mark on a couple things, like Enobaria's teeth for example. In the book, it's stated she has them filed (and I believe either gold or diamond tipped) AFTER winning her Games. It wasn't "to" rip people's throats out, but rather because ripping someone's throat while she was pinned down was how she won her Games. So it was meant to be symbolic

@@carlalussini I disagree. If she filed them in advance, she’s trying to rip throats out with her teeth. But really what happened is she ripped someone’s throat out of desperation since she didn’t have a weapon Making that a trophy is in line with District 2 behavior tbh, but the Capitol probably would’ve made any tribute from any district do something similar if they did the exact thing

the enobaria line in the movie is honestly kind of confusing because in the books she didn’t get her teeth filed like that so she could rip people’s throats out, she got them filed like that because that’s how she won her games, by tearing out her opponent’s throat as a last act of desperation. after the games, the victors are often forced to get surgical alterations in the capitol, whether to cover up their injuries / disabilities sustained in the games like peeta, who after the first book has a prosthetic leg, or to appeal more to the capitol’s residents, who often view the victors as desirable / a prize to be won (hence johanna’s line: now that the whole world wants to sleep with you). a lot of victors who have that “desirable” quality are actually forced into literal sex trafficking, like finnick and cashmere, who both partially won because their looks attracted sponsors, which is especially disgusting if you consider that finnick was the youngest victor ever. it’s speculated that enobaria therefore leaned into that sort of animalistic / feral reputation after her games to avoid getting trafficked. she might’ve also done it because she’s a career and winning the games is seen as a huge honor in her district, which is also the most brutal / brainwashed district, as it’s the one who trains peacekeepers and makes weaponry for the capitol. either way, it’s really sad and a lot deeper, and idk why they changed that line in the movie because if you know the context it’s much more interesting and sad honestly

The scene about getting to know Katniss in the train talking about his favorite color, being there with her during her night terrors and the fucking pearl 😭 When I saw it in the theaters, it just made me feel so full of hope and peace, and that's what Katniss precisely felt about Peeta. Gale never stood a chance in the books anyway, he was originally supposed to be her cousin lol. Anyway, no one deserves Peeta in a hundred years ❤

Him rooting for Finnick from the go feels just so relatable, but the fact that made me cheer was that he recognized Sam from Peaky Blinders. That alone made me subscribe. Also, how he reacted to the second movie is exactly how I reacted to the second book. And then the third, for me that's it, each book was significantly better than the previous one. And the best thing is that, for me TBoSaS is at the same level as Mockingjay, which makes me really excited for the movie. I can't wait until he (hopefully) reacts to that as well.

Catching Fire is the best of the 3 books. I agree with others, you gotta read this if you are into reading. The last line (which I read before reading the book cause I'm weird like that) was so powerful. "Katniss, there is no district 12" boom, book is done, gotta wait for Mockingjay - which I do have to say was the weakest of the three.
@liliaeth
@liliaeth Жыл бұрын
I actually felt Mockingjay was the strongest of the three, primarily because it focuses purely on Katniss PTSD, on the trauma they were put through. And it doesn't make the mistake of assuming that the revolution would actually make a traumatized teenage girl the actual leader of the armed revolt.

The tributes individual stories are so incredibly heartbreaking. Mags was alive since before the games even started as she participated in the 11th games and won. She watched as they turned into what they were and so when it came time for the 75th games she joined in on the alliance that half of the tributes were in on to save Katniss and Peeta at all costs hence why she sacrifices herself when she realizes that her being there will hinder that mission. She fought so hard and never got to see the result of her actions. Johanna says there’s no one left that she loves because snow killed them all to punish her for not playing into his game. Haymich lost his family and girlfriend too for using the force field to win hence why he turned to alcohol. The morphlings were also in on the plan to save Katniss and Peeta which is why the female sacrifices herself for him. It’s believed that Enobaria ripped her opponents throat out to win her games because she had no other choice, they were on top of her and pinning her down and all she had left was use of her teeth and for this act of desperation the capitol turned her into a bloodthirsty killer which she then had to play into to stay alive. There’s so much more but these are just the things that came to mind in the moment

Yeah, like Hamitch said, they're not ever getting out of it. At that point their future is forever this. Plus they get to relive their trauma every year when training other tributes and watching them die. Peeta and Katniss are not trying to impress, they're trying to send messages. "Remember the innocent children who died" and "you're not invulnerable". It's unlikely that all tributes did what they were supposed to do, show off their skill, Joanna at the very least probably had a rant full of curses ready. Cinna knew what he was doing and the risk he was taking, and he did it anyway.

14:41 While not the only location shooting done in Atlanta, Georgia, USA, by this franchise, the new Tribute Training Center for this movie and the rest that follow is my favorite. Filmed at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis, which has been very popular with filmmakers over the years due to its distinctive John Portman designed architecture. The original Will Graham/Hannibal movie adaptation, Manhunter, had scenes in this same hotel, as did Marvel's Loki TV Series. (Spider-Man: Homecoming's teaser trailer also had the Vulture swooping down that same atrium in a scene that was never used in the movie.) Every Labor Day Weekend, this hotel along with 4 other neighboring convention hotels (two of which are also designed by John Portman) are host to DragonCon, one of the biggest generalized geekery conventions on the east coast. I've been on that exact elevator from 16:30 before, with Cosplayers wearing only SLIGHTLY more than Johanna does at the end of that scene. Also because the production couldn't rent out the entire hotel for their filming, I heard a story that when they were shooting that scene, the elevator had stopped at an unexpected floor one time because the call button had been pressed and some random hotel guest got an eyeful.

It’s so weird to me some of the things they didn’t include in the films for clarity reasons. Like they talk about the quarter quell for two seconds and never really give context to it being a game with a twist, like in the first quarter quell the people of each district had to vote for the tributes, and in the second there were double the amount of tributes so two boys and two girls from each district. Another is not clarifying that viewing the games was mandatory to each citizen in the districts. And the districts were kept separate from one another, the only time they were ever allowed to communicate with one another was during the games and that only included the tributes. So they were not able to view footage from one another’s districts and were essentially taught to hate one another, the first districts 1,2 and 4 were especially disliked as they were more prosperous for providing the capitol with things they desired. District 1 made things like jewelry and precious gems. Making them the wealthiest district and the capitol favorite. District 2 is the masonry and became weaponry after the “fall” of district 13. so they made and manufactured weapons of all kinds to provide the capitol. They also train their children like soldiers because district 2 is where peacekeepers are taken and trained from. And district 4 provided seafood as they were the only district that was surrounded by ocean. Then you get all the way to district 12 who provide coal and they’re Essentially an entire district of poverty.
