Veteran Sea Harrier jet pilot Art Nalls is looking for a new pilot to join his team. He thinks he may have found the right person in Jenna Dolan, a lieutenant colonel in the Marines and the first woman to fly a Harrier in combat. Jenna travels from Boston to show Art her skills in the air, but bad weather may put their flight on hold.

I see people here in the comments knocking her for her comments regarding getting airsick. It is 100% normal for even seasoned pilots to get airsick during aggressive maneuvers when they are not the one in control. And like the Gs, airsickness is also a tolerance and it improves with exposure.

I drive for a living and race for hobby, no problem. Sometimes, I get car sick if I'm not driving.

You make me feel right at home Art and Jenna. I'm also a retired Marine, a weather forecaster. I worked at Cherry Point with MAG-14 and the newly-formed MAG-32 Harrier Group. I did 4 years in the Air Force before the Marines. Came in at Parris Island on December 7, 1971! Did Vietnam with both services. Retired at the Expeditionary Airfield, 29 Palms, CA. I don't like getting too far away from all you guys.

When the hose coupling leaks like that then shake it back and forth, this is normal procedure. As long as that poppet valve is open the hose can't become detached. Shaking it often help reseat the hose properly. Also, if that does not work you close the poppet right away to stop the pressure from reaching the plane. This should stop the leaking immediately. The coupling leaking is not that uncommon, although it's not generally an everyday thing on newer jets. On the older ones like this, I can imagine these little issues are common. Anyways I really enjoy the video (2F051 2006-2012)

My wife says the same thing when I drive, that she will get sick. I’m on to her now, it’s a control thing. ;). Great video and I can see Art is a tough cookie to fly under, which he should be. This is a no nonsense biz with serious costs and impacts. Love the series. Come to our air show in Chino CA plz.

Code name lol you mean pilot call sign that she was was given or earned by her squadron. Just easier to call out the pilots call sign they earned like guns, mover, maverick, goose, etc. Also you have the flight call signs like dash 1, dash 2 etc which are only for that flight. But the pilot call signs follow them through out their career unless they do something that earns them a new one

First? I remember years ago watching a documentary following the British Army in Iraq. They called in an airstrike and a single RAF Harrier turned up and the pilot on the radio was female.

I assume when she says she gets airsick when somebody easy flies... Is kinda like how I get car sick if other's drive, but I have no troubles on rolling hills, tight curves, or a lil side sliding. Or is it not a personal control loss thing?

My wife is like your first description, including hills and particularly curves and switch backs. She won't sleep or nap if someone else is driving. Me I can sleep or nap without a problem.

Ye Olde SovBloc L-39 is becoming well-known in North America... for *fatal* accidents caused by canopy failures/openings... but other than that, it's a "find bird"... lulz...

Might be a dumb question. But isn't there G-suit that you could wear to use air to pump your lower body and torso to keep blood flow for your upper body in case of high G-load in jets?

Thunderbolt Calgary From wikipedia: A g-suit will typically add 1 g of tolerance to that limit. Pilots still need to practice the 'g-straining maneuver' that consists of tensing the abdominal muscles in order to tighten blood vessels so as to reduce blood pooling in the lower body.

Welp flying a harrier requires you to be focused because there are over 200 parts moving at the same time 1 mistake can be very dangerous.

These are great videos but I can't see anyone practicing a stall in a low wing on the first flight back. One thing the harrier didn't seem suffer ..... whereas the notorious flat spin of the f14 was never foreseen. (Too much surface area for an aircraft that wasn't really there to dogfight - it just so happened that it _could_).

I always wanted to be fighter pilot n then commercial. But I didn’t have 2020 vision, so I went to army become army overseas combat wombed warrior veteran 2010/2011. Stefan Leggott In military flying there is no rank after boarding, there is the pilot in command and the rest... many times as a Lt or Capt I had overriding authority over Colonel or General guest pilots as to what we fly or how we fly. It is all about currency and readiness...

Impressive! There is however, a small inaccuracy in the story. The Harrier was not first 'foreign' plane in US inventory. It was the English Electric Canberra, US designation B-57.

Sorry to be a pain, but for people who don't know, the Harrier was a British designed and built aircraft, built under licence in the U.S. Sadly, no-more. It's role being taken over by the F35 Lightning.

Actually the harrier flies better than most aircraft and high winds. it has puffer ducts at all four corners and a computer to help assist with the operation to keep the aircraft level when flying in for a landing.
