The patch has been, and likely always will be dysfunctional. I spent the majority of my adult life in it, and you don't realize it until you've left it for awhile. Looking back I can't believe some of the shit we put up with as contractors. But I still love it, and miss it in many ways. Keep making these videos!

I put 46 yrs in the trucking business starting in the 60's. Two things I stayed away from was livestock hauling and the oilfield which from as far back as I can remember was nothing but a roller-coaster. I found niche work with tankers worked well for me. After deregulation with contacts I had if things got a bit slow the guy's I leased to would let me run off and work for a couple of outfits that knew me and they kept me busy for as long as needed. Its become a dance keeping steady without having to work for the dirt bags which I refused to do and if necessary I'd park my truck and wait it out. I never puy myself in jeopardy by sketchy financial situations and becoming truckings biggest problem by rate cutting or working for those that did. Im sure you wouldn't be happy in forestry, I did bed work in the bush for a bit which was sorta ok, as far as hauling logs its just like gravel trucking you end up like a dog chasing its tail and spring break-up will sit ya down for a couple of months. You'll be ok as you've got the drive needed to get by. Stay safe driver and have a great summer...and good luck out there with fire season hitting ya hard.
