I am a first year teacher. I just accepted a position to be a 6th ELA teacher. I’ve never taught that grade. Even though this is geared towards younger grades, I found this super helpful! Thank you!

Great ideas listed in your video. I have been teaching for the past 2 years. The most important thing I can say about preparing for your first year is to study your curriculum standards. Adopted curriculum by your school will change but the standards are the meat and potatoes of what you will teach. If you know these you will be able to adjust any curriculum your district uses.

I will be a first year kindergarten teacher at the same school I did my student teaching at in the same grade! I just did a 60 day long term sub position in kindergarten at a different school in the same district. I graduated from a private Christian university. our video was so helpful for me to think about what I should do! I’m using pastel from Miss Jacobs Little Learners! Dang. It deleted my comment with the link. But I said I've been watching you for a couple of years now and it's finally time for me to join in on the fun! I'll be a first year fourth grade ELAR/SS teacher this year! I'm so excited!! Thank you for all of your advice. I've been searching for a video like this. :) Also, how do you find out your districts curriculum? Should I just text my principal? (I'm terrified of anybody above me) or is there somewhere I can look? I don't have access to most things until my "contract starts".

I would google your state, district and the words curriculum. Example “Georgia Atlanta public school’s curriculum..” if you are private them you will most likely have to ask someone.
