Just wanted to add, I've now been doing garage repair, motor install, and door install for a little over 6 months now. Please don't try any spring work torsion bar anything without knowing what you are doing. Although garage door work is very easy once you learn it and put it to practice it is still extremely dangerous and you and easily injury your self or others. In other words, don't try any of this at home until you take some kind of class. You can be impaled, you can be bludgeoned you can impale someone else, you can lose limbs, and be maimed. Please be careful.

Damn it's that dangerous? Do you think you can go out and do it after this online course?
@derrickkeppler613
@derrickkeppler613 Жыл бұрын
As long as the online course teaches the proper safety then yes. Such as when you wind your springs you never wind your springs in front of you you always want to wind them from the side so if you accidentally let go of the bar the bar will not impale you. Or come down in bludgeon you. You only have to whine those springs two full turns in order for it to have enough tension to break a bone. Make sure to only wind 1/4 turn at a time and as you wind let the torsion bar rest against the strut on the door while you position the second torsion bar in the spring and winde it up a quarter turn then rest the torsion bar on the strut and repeat the process until the spring is fully wound

Can you explain something to me please? I want to start doing this myself as an independent contractor. I’ve contacted a number of companies in my area that work as suppliers/installers but its not worth for me to get doors from them and sell them/install them. How do i find out where they are getting their doors from? If i get doors from them they are probably taking 50% so i need to find out who the original supplier is

Great video can you break down the way you got to the 299 cost as in labor, cost of sping etc...
@derrickkeppler613
@derrickkeppler613 Жыл бұрын
Each spring is probably around 80 bucks resale so that's 160 for 2 and then probably about 150 for labor. Give the customer a lil discount and get it right under the high number being 310 to 299 and you just saved your customer money, made them happy and made bank. When you have an llc or a you are a sole proprietor you can keep plate berrings and hinges and rollers on your truck too and make an extra 200 while your there if the customer is interested.

We currently only teach torsion spring installations for Roll-Up Residential doors, where the springs are above the door. The side springs you're referring to are outdated and a lot more dangerous to work with. We may have a video in the future on how to replace these. But, for now, we just have what's most commonly used.

@GarageDoorTrainingSchool
@GarageDoorTrainingSchool 2 жыл бұрын
@@lbsr3614 Yes, side springs can be changed to the standard springs that go above the door. We have a lesson on installing these overhead springs, so you would definitely be able to install a new spring system. But I just want to be clear, we do not cover the side springs that you currently have. As for the $500 off, we currently are not offering it right now. Our prices are actually set to increase in the near future. What I can offer you now, however, is another promotional discount of $250 off. Let me know if you're interested!

Those are called extension springs and they suck. lol. You will also have 3' pulleys, cables, and bottom brackets. Please for the love of god do not attempt to do any spring work by yourself at home without basic knowledge of where and how things operate. Although these jobs are easy when you know what you are doing they are still very dangerous and you can seriously injure yourself or someone around you.

This looks like a really good business, curious as to how good the training videos are. I have a friend who knows someone in the business n says there's not that many service in our area. He says that owner wished he had that many?? I live in Minneapolis Minnesota n our surrounding area there's about 3 million people. It kinda seems like the guy doesn't want any more competition; what do you think?
@bigal4587
@bigal4587 2 жыл бұрын
That is exactly true. Most garage door companies won’t train you because they know that you will quit and start your own business and take away their jobs. Most will only train relatives or close friends. As far as the videos we have had all good reviews and many have let us know that they are doing well in their own business.

Nick, I have another question. After you buy the course and get set up for business how much of budget would one need for parts and where do you source the parts?
@GarageDoorTrainingSchool
@GarageDoorTrainingSchool 2 жыл бұрын
Hey Patrick! Once you're in the course, we have a list of suppliers for garage doors and garage door parts. A starting budget would be anywhere from $100-$200, depending on which parts you get. With this budget, you can keep a couple of pairs of torsion springs, cables, and a few universal remotes to have with you at all times (These are the most used and replaced parts). The rest of the parts you can acquire on an as-needed basis.

Make sure if the company trains you, they doesn’t require you to sign non-compete clause. This is a contract that locks you into working with ONLY them for a period of time. If this is the case, our course will teach you everything you need to know, without being locked into any one company.

That’s all for show what the customer sees. If it took 15 minutes and you times it by 4 it equals an hour of work time. He netted 250 dollars on it and if you times that by 4 it equals a thousand dollars. He does charge way too low as well. His price for that according to our price sheet should be 789.00. You can do the math on that number. Doesn’t matter what we put on the receipt to the customer. Do you really think if he was as charging only 40 dollars labor that would mean the springs would cost 260.00. Is that what you believe?
