A data leak in the UAE has revealed details of foreign property owners in the Emirate of Dubai. Indians emerged on top of the list with over 29,000 owners and 35,000 properties worth a cumulative $17 billion. Pakistan slotted in behind India, with politicians like Bilawal Bhutto Zardari featuring on the foreign owners' list. More worryingly, the list also includes drug lords, sanctioned businessmen, money launderers and terror financiers. The embarrassing leak comes months after the UAE was removed from the terror finance watchdog FATF's grey list. UAE officials have rejected the report, saying it takes the integrity of the global economy "very seriously". Palki Sharma tells you more.

If India does not have an iron clad system to catch criminals like Nirav Modi and the Shekasarias who flee the country after duping Banks of thousands of crores and taking up huge mansions in Dubai, what can that country do? Why does our Customs and Airports allow such criminals to flee when the whole country knows their antecedents.? Not really. All the recent leaks (Panama, Dubai) are because mostly Russian money went there and probably there is some govt agnecy behind these leaks. It is wrong but the major money is laundered in Dalaware, USA. There is a movie on Netflix that is basically a documentary in the form of move. It is called Laundromat (2019).

I work with a company who is developer making villa and renovation only in palm Jumeirah. To get approval from Dubai municipality we collect all the details of the owner. My company have most of the owners data. Even sharuk khans passport too.

Dear Palki, on a daily basis, there are lot flights which carry passengers from Dubai to India (specially at the small airports) smuggling gold everyday. Authorities are involved in it forsure.

How you runs a country without taxes?! Like how the hell taxes free makes their economy up to 9%?? Can someone explain me how's that works?

You do not pay personal income tax, so you put your money in their banks, buy property, live and spend your money there. The banks use the money to make profit. Because of tax free status, the real estate does extremely well selling properties which should not have any buyer otherwise. The other tax havens like Caymen Islands, Luxembourg, Switzerland etc work in the same way. If the population is low, a nation can really survive with the tax haven strategy because personal income tax won't amount to much in any way.

What has been leaked, is only the tip of the iceberg. The list of investors is bigger than the number of total properties available in Dubai. Every 5th dollar earned via crime. anywhere in the world, lands in Dubai in cash, sometimes it's as big as container loads. The vision of Dubai, as conceived by its creators, is coming true !

In Dubai they catch small innocent PPL on visa extension, smaller issues but looking into this if you are a drug or any illegal personalities live freely . Wow
