Best plants for Axolotl tanks are those that do not need to be rooted in the substrate, such as elodea, Indian fern and water sprite. Anything rooted will get pulled up in all likely hood.

I have amazon swords Java fern anubius lobelia cardinalis pogostemon octopus and dwarf hair grass and sag in my tank with 3 adult axolotl and they love it they have only pulled up 2 plants but that was when they were first planted and hadn't rooted enough. You could use any plant for them I am sure just give the plant a week or two to root and I'm sure they would be fine

I had a lot of luck with mine using Java Moss, I tied it to driftwood to start and it just went crazy. Also tip with it; if you have your water filling 3/4 of the tank and put driftwood with Java moss on it directly under your filter output above the water it will slow the water flow for the Axies and also ad an extra layer of chemical filtration for the cleanest water you've seen in your life.
@AndrewFishman
@AndrewFishman Жыл бұрын
@@danielled8665 The wood with moss provides biological, not chemical, filtration. You have to be careful with mosses in axie tanks as they can tangle their gills with the strands. Generally not too much of a problem, but I have seen real messes created. Ultimately, you can use any plant in any tanks, some are just going to do better, some are going to suit the animals better.

@@AndrewFishman plants process and remove nitrogen and ammonia and trap chemical impurities, do they not?
@AndrewFishman
@AndrewFishman Жыл бұрын
@@danielled8665 No. Plants utilise Nitrate which the end product of the Nitrogen cycle, bacteria break down Ammonia (NH3) to Nitrite (NO2) and Nitrite is then again processed by bacteria to NO3, Nitrate, which plants can use. This is the reason the NITRIFYING BACTERIA require good oxygen supplies in their water. They are adding Oxygen in the process, which has to come from the environment for them to utilise.. De-nitrifying bacteria convert Nitrate to Oxygen and nitrogen gasses and are sometimes used in plenums and such for nitrate removal. These are Anaerobic bacteria, meaning, they do not require oxygen in their environment. Alot of plants will help in the uptake of many chemicals, not all and not as efficiently as many filters (charcoal for example) would. If they did, medications would not work. Plants are good for the final stage of the Nitrogen Cycle where in they use the Nitrate as fertiliser. Some plants remove minerals and heavy-metals, but not many are efficient at chemical removal, and indeed, many chemicals will damage or kill sensitive plants. However, that is getting to the core of the discussion. Plants and bacteria are BIOLOGICAL FILTRATION. They are organic, biological organisms doing the filtration and it is done through biological process. This is the measure, not what is being filtered. So, bacteria growing in lava rock porous structure or on plastic bio-balls is biological. Charcoal filters, resin softeners etc rely on chemical processes for their filtration. Charcoal is the most common form of CHEMICAL FILTRATION where it uses a chemical process known as ABSORBTION, wherein it traps and locks organic particles in place.It has no effect on the Nitrogen cycle however, as it does not filter out the ammonia. Other examples of chemical filtration include ZEOLITE (similar to carbon but works on nitrate) and ION EXCHANGING RESINS (to lock up salts and soften the water) MECHANICAL or PHYSICAL filtration is the physical removal of waste through a barrier such as filter wool or a sponge (which also provides a level of Biological filtration from bacteria growing in the sponge itself). Pretty much, if it traps particles, it is a physical filter. Many filters will utilise combinations of these methods with a physical barrier, a bio-chamber and charcoal polishing. Sorry for the long winded explanation. Hope I cleared it up for you.

Try just filling the top of the tank with Elodea. Is cheap, does not need to be rooted in the substrate, does not need heating and will do well with an axie. I used to use it to spawn mine in.

As a turtle owner, that turtle tank is like a 5/10 or 6/10. The tank seems to be fine. There are a few decorations in there for enrichment. Meets basic standards. Substrate might be too gravelly. I'll give a basic reference guide to help with reviewing turtle tanks. No substrate is fine. Gravelly substrate is very bad. Sand is good. Large river rocks are also good. Turtles like moving decorations around, so decorations are very good. The minimum tank size is ten gallons of water per inch of turtle's shell length. A 4 inch turtle would need 40 gallons of space. Basking area is supposed to have two lights above it, one bulb for UVB (fake sun) and another for heat. Having only one bulb is suspicious. Unless the tank's extremely large or comparable to a turtle pond, more than one turtle is not good. Most people don't do cohabitation well when using a tank. Those basking areas with suction cups will start to sink once the turtle reaches a certain weight- not the best option. Egg crate, PVC, and zip ties are normal materials for a DIY platform. Some species are known for killing live plants, and some turtles can't be housed with fake plant decor either. In those cases you decorate with driftwood and large rocks. Goldfish are bad to use as feeders. They shouldn't be in a turtle tank. Dock points if you see any

@@lynniesaade4710 🤔 I think some of mine would score very poorly. Despite the breeding going on in their green water, the algae covered sides doing a great deal of filtration as I gross feed various cory and wild betta fry alongside a few other bits and pieces that just get dumped into the greenest tank I can find for them. The algae also feeds the plecs and ottos. BUT, the topper would be the homemade filers. They are not really designed to be discreet, just functional. If you can actually see into the tanks, mostly the water is actually crystal clear, unless it is one of my green water fry tanks, I just allow the algae to grow for a number of reasons. People always tell me I should clean them, I just smile and thank them for the advice. 😀 My aquascaping is done to suit the fish and tends to the natural, untended look, which takes a lot of effort to achieve, but no effort to maintain. Caves, rockwork and driftwood adorn most tanks, and substrates are to suit fish variety. If you can see them lol. But with a bit of a scrub, they will rival anything we have seen. You just have to see the fit and healthy fish to know that sterile and clean is not best. Oh, did I mention the mulm build up in the dwarf cichlid tanks to feed the fry and give them cover to dive into? That might score me down a fair bit, lol. "He should vacuum his gravel, that's gross!" I can just hear the comments now 😅

Actually, neon tetras need way more space, around 100l becuase they like to swim a lot, or at least a meter long tank. That tank for the gourami is way too small, also I think they should at least live in pairs. Also for the one planning to add a beta fish, hopefully they live in a warm country or they are gonna need a heater too. Sagittarias are good plants for axolotls :3 Most of them tolerate water under 20°C and are soft enough so the axololt won't hurt itself.
@thomassarman9510
@thomassarman9510 Жыл бұрын
right on everything but gourami dont need to be kept in pairs, if anything, if you keep more than one it should be at least 3; one male and 2 female to keep the male from being too aggressive towards a single female. Gourami do however do fine in a tank on their own as long as they have plenty of hides ofc.

@@longslhonglogan2959 My tanks are always overcrowded lol. I get you. I have a problem with running out of space as I add more species, they breed and I need more tanks to accommodate. But they always end up crowded and usually overgrown, no manicured gardens in my fish room lol. It is not about me, the fish love a jungle of plants so I just let them grow. Helps to not need water changes every few days also, and provides cover for fry. As long as you have a reliable filter/filters (remember 2 is better than one for all sorts of reasons) you can push stocking recommendations quite severely. Look at Mbuna tanks which are heavily stocked to reduce aggression and Tang tanks which are heavily stocked through the Lamps and julies breeding like bunnies . As I say, 2 filters is better than one, 3 is better yet. If one goes down, you are not totally without filtration, running 2 lower powered filters is better than one high powered filter as it splits the flow, you can run different types, i.e a sponge filter for biological filtration alongside a box filter with filter wool and charcoal for particle removal and chemical filtration and you can set up different flow points through the tank for better aeration if required. Also, it mean you always have a seasoned filter ready to go when you set up a new tank. Cheat the cycling. I usually have a net of gravel under an outflow to seed the gravel for quick set ups also. I also like to set up the inflow at the opposite end of the tank to the outflow, no matter the filter set up, to encouorage a flow along the length of the tank. this helps eliminate dead zones and helps ensure good gas exchange as the water is drawn entirely along the length of the tank, not isolated to an area immediately around the filter and its flow.

Other than that it's kind of a pain in general so good luck, my siphon just eats the sand I cant even get the debris

@@catorb6607 Are you using a siphon vacuum or just a hose? You need a relatively wide end going into the narrow hose or the hose will suck the substrate. The wider vacuum fittings or a soda bottle with the bottom cut out and the hose put into the lid will give a lower pressure so will pick up the sand and debris, but drop the sand back out as it is too heavy and the pressure too low to suck it up and the debris then continues on through the hose and out of the tank. The other ways are all very tedious and time consuming and not easy, starting with turkey baster and netting.

@@AndrewFishman mine is a siphon but it's narrow, probably why it eats substrate. Next time I'll just get a big one with a turkey baster

Why is no one talking about how these are Mollies not Guppies it's killing me 14:37

Stop being a drama queen, its not killing you lol. There is a very obviously gravid Orange Tail Female Guppy next to the molly on the right, and a single Neon tetra to boot. I am more concerned by mixing neons and Livebearers without comment, TBH. There is a Yellow Tale mail Guppy next to the molly on the left and possibly one another one behind it. Stop dying, start looking. Amazing what you can see when you look, especially when you have been told it is in the photo.
