Fisher 30 Northeaster Ep 5 - Painting the hull above the waterline

I bought a 1976 Fisher Northeaster from the north of Norway. It needs a lot of work. The exterior is faded and full of nicks. The boats interior is damaged due to leaking in the joining between the deck and the hull.
In this video i focus on the hull above the waterline, getting it painted.
This video might be of interest for anyone buying an old boat to be restored, and in particular for present and future Fisher ovners.
I hope you like the video. There are more of them to come as works progress.

Thanks. Unfortunately they (=EU) have now stopped sales of that particular paint (polyurethane paint), which is bad. Glad I bought it prior to sales stop. :-)

Thanks, Clive. Yes, she looks a bit naked without the wood (and the rigging). The old teak was worn-out and partly rotten (!!!), so I am working to find a suitably replacement wood. Hard to get teak at a reasonably price here in Norway...!

@@clivestainlesssteelwomble7665 Oh... Sorry! There I can only speak for some of what inspired the designers of the Fisher motorsailers, David Freeman and Gordon Wyatt. I have read that they took inspirations from the Norwegian built Colin Archer rescue boats from the naval architect with the same name, and the first built in 1893 (and is still in seaworthy condition). These were - as far as I know - made of oak. Later the outer skin were made of pine. The inspiration can be seen on the Fisher sterns, ketch-rigging with quite small mesan sail, relatively heavy internal ballast, and probably more. Not sure what was used in wooden boats in England at that time...

Thanks. It do looks good. At that point (ref. 4:48) at the stern of the boat, that was the last place to paint before completion and the paint had become a bit thick. If I had remembered to add some thinner the result might had been even better. A pro would have done that :-)

Superb job ... did a previous boat in Perfection Blue ... our current F34, we chose a custom Epifanes LPU color ... paint is hard but was difficult to roll and tip. You're not going to regret any of the work you're doing ... envious of sailing in your area ... but then ... the Pacific Northwest is pretty special too. Hope you're getting some rest!! All the best ...
