About the OSD If that's anything like my VCR, it has a display button, in my case there are 3 positions, one is disabled for channel numbers and functions (PLAY, REW, FF, etc) the other will show channel numbers and functions, the third will also display the tape counter and tape position meter. As for the tracking, yeah, mine's like that too, it has auto tracking but if you want to track manually you must use the remote. My VCR is an AIWA HV-MX100, it's a very cool multisystem VCR. I have tapes we brought from Canada, back when we lived in Winnipeg, I'm in Portugal now so it's cool to have a unit that can play both NTSC and PAL tapes.

VHS was ok, Beta was fine, but Video2000 now that's where it was at. I never saw one in my life, but with their huge Compact Cassette look and the ability to flip to the other side, oh the fun we could have had.

I would love to play around with an old V2000 machine. They were never sold over here, unfortunately.

V2000 is regarded as a big, unreliable and failed format. The double-sided cassettes meant it was really a 1/4 inch video format, although the tape was 1/2 inch wide, and not a very good one when it comes to image quality with lots of chroma noise. The cassettes were roughly the same size as a VHS one. Philips and Grundig ditched it in less than 5 years. The only remarkable breakthrough V2000 had was the DTF or dynamic track following that eliminated the need for a manual tracking adjustment and gave it near perfect still image and picture search, but DTF was also prone to fail.

@@UHF43 lol someone dunking on V2000 in 2022 brings to mind that on social media there's no such thing as beating a dead horse 😂 keep on flogging it bro, I'm sure it will matter to someone somewhere that V2000 is a failed format

@@UHF43 On the contrary, everything you said made it even more interesting to mess with. VHS, Beta, Video8, VCR, V2000 etc. are all dead, big, bulky, color-bleeding and failed formats now. Time to move on and remember what year it is.

It's got a nice style to it, paired with the lines that move in the tape direction.

Those screws are I believe are called JIS screws, (Japanese Industry Standard) screws.

Yeah, those are the ones. Maybe the JIS bit set I bought is junk, because I still have horrible luck with them.

I use the "Superior freedom micro-usb" (cheesy name I know) programmable remotes for stuff I lack remotes for which can be found for like $15-$25 new on ebay and similar. They work similarly to the harmony ones where you set the codes via and app and have codes for pretty much every VCR I've encountered. (Not sure if you can move stuff around though.)

Thank you very much for testing the machine on all three speeds! It's always interesting to see how they perform. 29:20 - I love the Kroger's commercial at the end! There are no Kroger's stores where I live, so I have never heard that jingle before. It seems that Kroger's commercials from the '80s and '90s used the same lyrics ("Listen to the scissors...") with different music that sounded like a contemporary hit. The one you played, from about 1992, sounds a lot like a dance/pop song I have heard before, but I just can't remember what it is! Cool, Also I used to have a Nokia VCR that looked the same internaly got rid of the Nokia forever ago which I kind of regret nowdays but know ik it was a rebranded Sanyo, Don't remeber the Nokia having tracking buttons, It was like with you're VCR where you adjusted tracking using the remote

Yeah in Europe there were Sanyo-made vcrs branded Nokia/ITT/Luxor/Salora in the late 80s/early-mid 90s, even at least one SVHS model. Many of the 90s ones had an extra nokia-developed video IC that was supposed to improve playback quality that wasn't present in most of the Sanyo variants (They got ASO / ASO Plus marking on the front). The last Nokia branded ones use a sharp mechanism/parts instead I believe. Luxor later got re-used on some funai decks. I have a nokia one (VCR3715) I've been meaning to make a video on on some point once I sort out the issues it's had.

@@analogvideochannel4612 Yes I remember the ITT S-VHS which was quite a nice-looking machine. Salora also used Mitsubishi and Akai as their OEM.

Siemens also sold rebadged Sanyo VCRs.
