I had this exact model in my room in junior high and our family had several other models of Emerson VCRs over the years. The picture and sound were garbage on all, especially recordings. But they inexplicably lasted forever. This model worked without a problem for 20 years, including being stored in a garage in extreme Texas heat for 10 of those years.

I want to do this so terribly bad. I’m an electrician by trade with an extensive computers background and I STILL feel lost. Glad to have found your channel, I’ve been playing with this idea for about 10 years.

I’ve always thought of it as a beautiful symphony. The amount of thought and engineering that went into ensuring backward compatibility of a analogue signals was incredible, and always impressed me. I bought my first Panasonic (or National as it was back then) in 1982, and yes, it has BNC video connectors (I still have it in 2024), so I’ve lived through all this. The VCR cost me AU$1,099 in 1982. My first ever big purchase after leaving school, and getting a full time job.

A multiband EQ is needed to compensate room resonances and reflections. Nothing relates to "V-shape" (which is a matter of good amplifier and loudspeakers). If you need "V-shape" it's time to think about an upgrade.

Press Windowskey + P then change it to "extend" then right click the desktop, go to display, then change the second "monitor" to a 4:3 aspect ratio like 1024x768 if it hasn't chosen one automatically. (edit: I see you addressed this in your follow up video)

Nice videos you have here, found them by looking for chain of HDMI to RCA to HDMI. You may wonder why would I need to ruin HDMI signal via RCA and then get back to HDMI? Well I have PlayStation 1 classic, it has HDMI output, but picture is too sharp and pixelated and resolution is 720p without way to set up native game resolution which was 480i or 240i mostly, so games does not look like I remember them, smoothing of analogue signal is missing entirely. So I came up with idea to buy 2 adapters and chain them together to make PS1 classic crisp 720p image converted to smoother analogue with all the color smearing and aberration and then turn it back into HDMI with next adapter, because my tv doesn't have composite anymore to give games look they had in 90th which was intended look developers aimed for, to cover up imperfections of picture. Have you tried anything like this?

Hello and thanks for your interesting video; In Iran (Middle East and probably Europe) VHF was 2 to 12 and UHF was 21 to 69. Until the early 90s in Iran, many people had televisions that did not have the UHF band. For this reason, the first box that was placed next to the televisions; The external UHF Channel boxes. I will make a video of these UHF mobile channels and post it on my channel. Thanks again.

well if you have a 4:3 video in vlc you can stretch to 16:9 and put you resolution to 16:9 so the adapter will compres and cancel the vlc stretch

Our hitachi was a year newer and had regular pots for the color and tint but looked almost the same. Lasted from early 1973 to 2011 with a few minor repairs. Outstanding instant on color tv!! Well ahead of its time!’ 🎉

I live in Mexico City and developed a setup just as yours, except that I was unable to use any of the VHF channels: there are certain times during the day that channels 3 and 4 are impossible to be seen since there are lots of interference, coming, perhaps, from cellular phones. However channels 14 to 69 are Ok providing you don't jumpt into a used one. Congratulations for your setup!. I had been unable to find a STEREO MODULATOR anywhere, so for now all my channels are mono. Also I added a couple of ATSC channels, that are modulating before the TDT receivers, so I can feed tune from the digital modulator to the analog tvs through my tdt receivers. I am continuously adding channels to my whole setup just for fun.

My JVC HR-475ea is also a multisystem I’ve played both PAL and NTSC Tapes in it and it works very well (but it is a very fussy VCR). I’m not sure though if the TV I was using though was liking the NTSC tape a lot or if it was just the tape being old and flickering now and then because I had the colour system on the TV Set to auto and the VCR manually to NTSC 3.58. Still I was very surprised with how well it played the NTSC Tape and just how different it looked compared to PAL. I just feel it’s best to watch NTSC Tapes using a proper NTSC Setup, not a PAL VCR which can playback in PAL60 for NTSC.

That TV--21 was a godsend in Germany when my unit was on field exercises. Me and 3 other guys crammed into a hole with that thing inside a helmet, and 3 sets of headphones jury rigged together. We couldn't find anything on but static.... then BLAM there was The Simpsons. It was in German but that was absolutely fine with us :) God that was cool....

I have the NEC895EU version. That loading mechanism is simple, but not. Make sure you take note of the timing marks. Your copper rings sound OK. Mine drag, probably need to re-glue them.(They lift) I seem to remember seeing a 30 or 40 page document on the internet on how to go completely through these, but I haven't been able to find it.

I tried re-glueing them on a VR-3010 in another video and failed. I don't think i used the right glue. I ended up replacing the upper head drum from a parts JVC unit.

I replaced two belts and gave everything in the tape path a good cleaning and the machine came alive! it's in amazing condition. It even still had some protective film on from when it was new that had to be painstakingly removed after 44 years of drying. The old couple who owned it hardly ever touched it because the kids got their own VCR a few years later
