I really enjoyed listening to you do this. I am visually impaired, so I cannot do this by myself. I have one of those record players, and it works well, but it plays slowly. A little bit slowly anyway. It probably needs someone to fix it, and I really enjoyed listening to this video. Thank you for posting it

I happened to have the strebito 142 piece set bought on Amazon. Used the 4.5mm socket. They have thin metal so no grinding of socket necessary. A little bit of pressure and fit perfectly. And, comes with plastic spudger tools to carefully take case off.

So a 4.5mm socket does the job for sure?

I've worked on one of these, one thing to keep in mind is to pre-tension at the bottom range of the limiter mechanism, so fully "unwound" should still have tension on the spring once assembled. Sadly for my one, the plastic gear has a crack in it. It still works but causes a click every time it turns the axel. No idea if there is anyway to deal with that - it seems windup clockwork like this is a thing of the past.

I think one reason these music boxes have lasted so long and so well it’s because they were swiss and define that quality workmanship today is is not that common

Well I am happy to see that I am not the reason getting those screws out is so hard but I still haven’t found a solution that works for mine. Going back at it.

I'm having trouble getting the motor to start. I think it was overwound and when I removed the cabinet there was a distinctive "sproing" sound as if it was relaxing. I cannot get it to re-wind and start the motor. Is there anything I can do?

@TrevorsBench
@TrevorsBench 3 жыл бұрын
Hi Phyllis, thanks for watching. Try a 5mm hex driver first. You may find the outside wall of the socket is too thick to fit in the hole and won't fully seat, you may need to grind it thinner

This must be a newer model. Mine says ‘71 on the side (made in Japan) and the screws are flatheads. Can’t get the dial off so I’m wondering if it is supposed to come off on this model!

Interesting! Mine is also 1971 but made in the USA and regrettably does not have flathead screws.

Hi just watched your video on the fisher price record player and wondered did it click before you fixed it ? Do you know what the clicking might be ?
@TrevorsBench
@TrevorsBench 3 жыл бұрын
There was no clicking, just very sluggish and slow wen wound up. Maybe the gear between the motor and turntable is slipping? Not sure

NAPA auto parts sells a "Precision Nut Driver Set" for $1. Largest size in it is 5 mm, part number for the set is #: BK 5751144. 5 mm worked on mine but you do have to apply pressure to stop it from popping off the nut. Penetrating oil definitely helps.
