A group of fishermen who were in Monterey Bay last week jumped into action when two teenagers suddenly got swept out to sea. According to one of the fishermen, the group was salmon fishing when they spotted the teen girls in the water. Lifeguards said the girls were in the water for nearly 30 minutes, and the water temperature was reportedly 53 degrees. MORE: abc7.com/monterey-bay-rescue-...

We went on a deep sea charter fishing trip that was quite expensive, and we saw 3 men on a John boat fighting the waves to get back in shore, and they also were taking on a little bit of water. The captain told us that we weren’t required by law to stop and help, but said that we had to help. We anchored next to the John boat and threw a line out to them and proceeded to call the coast guards to help them, it took around an hour for the coast guards to come, and we continued on our trip. It did take some time out of our trip, but no one cared; we were just glad that we were there at the right time .

The ocean is so powerful and should not be misjudged. Me and a group of friends were riding huge, and I mean HUGE waves in Ecuador and got swept out. We were unaware of the riptide and were all just having fun. Until we looked behind us and were dangerously far from shore. Two surfers saw us from the beach and swam up with their boards and we all grabbed on to them and they guided us to shore. We all collapsed onto the sand like those girls did in the video from absolute exhaustion. Was a very necessary lesson learned and gave me more respect for the Ocean and her power. The surfers said tourists drown here very often and they wish the authorities were more interested in keeping people aware of the danger of riptides. They said we were about the 20th group of people they’ve rescued. Very thankful they saw us and decided to help. Respect the sea, swim back to shore diagonally, take breaks, and do the deadman’s float every few minutes to conserve energy. These are all tips the surfers gave us. They also said wear some F **** life jackets if you’re going to be that stupid and oblivious in the water. 😂😩🥲 shout out to the Ecuadorian pitters 🤙🏼

Surfers often save lives. They are often in the right place at the right time simply because the things they enjoy doing are where others should stay away. The board is often also a very good life saver, it takes so much less energy to hold onto something and even be out of the water if cold. Surfers also know ho to get back into shore for minimal effort.
