Very good review. Curious, why do you prefer lever over star drag for fluking and Tog? In particular how would this stack up against a Trinidad for togging? Thanks.
@Fishin203
@Fishin203 5 жыл бұрын
ecksdog I like having instant control over my drag when handling big fish. Also it’s just a personal preference tbh a star drag would work fine I do use them of course but I’ve been fishing for tog with a lever drag for so long it’s just the most natural to me. The last thing you want is a drag failure on a double digit tog! The Trinidad is a much smoother reel than this one in my opinion but you get a lot more drag with the accurate so it’s kind of a pick your poison type of deal.

Question... From your nice review I assume that the 300 and 400 are both the same spool diameter, how much wider is the 400 spool than the 300?

How’s the cast ability with these reels ? Or is it more for vertical ?

thank you for the video, do you ever have a hard time casting with the braid? i hear braid diggs into itself. for example a tady 45 weigh about 2.5 oz so it does not spool back on to your reel tight when you wind it back , perhaps causing an issue on your next cast...also do you tie your jigs directly on to the braid? and if so what knot do you use...i tried once adding about 8 ft of mono top shot and the knot kept getting in the way as it went through the guides..thanks in advance for you time.
@Fishin203
@Fishin203 6 жыл бұрын
eli madr yeah unfortunately that’s the downside to braid. I usually wet pack it which I should probably make a video on. But basically you wanna spool the braid on wet and under heavy tension, this will make less air pockets and prevent digging. I usually use barrel swivels to leader, but the “FG” knot is the line to leader knot I prefer and recommend for any situation! The tiny diameter of the knot helps it go through the guides smoother. Check it out! And tight lines.

The digging in usually only happens to me after I pull and break a snag which I really should use a wood dowel for pulling free.

Does the spool locks into place by turning the handle instead of manual flick the drag lever?
@Fishin203
@Fishin203 4 жыл бұрын
Jason Bourne I noticed you commented on two of my lever drag videos. Not a single lever drag reel in the world will lock by turning the handle. It’s physically impossible. That’s only a thing with a star drag reel

I’m on Long Island and I want an accurate bv I was thinking 400 2 speed as a reel that will do it all from catching porgy to tuna do you think the 500 would be too much ? My logic behind it is it’s a lever drag so I can set it to smaller fish like porgy but and set it higher for fluke and so on and being that the reel is only 17 oz it’ll be lighter then my avet mxl and I’ll also have 2 speed which is always good to have handy. I’m younger and want to make the right decision considering it’s a 650 dollar reel

Thanks for the info! What you think of accurate tern 400 vs the boss valiant 400? Thanks
@Fishin203
@Fishin203 4 жыл бұрын
I recently bought a tern and I haven’t really gotten a whole lot of time to use it. It casts similarly to the valiant, like shit lol you gotta keep your thumb on the spoil basically the entire time but I did huck weightless eels with it and got some bass they’re pretty close in performance I feel like it’s more of a preference. If you like lever drags you’ll probably like the valiant more visa versa.

@Fishin203
@Fishin203 4 жыл бұрын
anonymous anonymous to be honest i don’t know off the top of my head you’ll have to do some math. Look up the OD of the braid you’re buying vs the OD of whatever’s on the specs for the reel
@Fishin203

anonymous anonymous and just for clarification the “OD” means outer diameter. So like the thickness of the braid. Every braided line is different

@Fishin203
@Fishin203 4 жыл бұрын
P/ZO 316MIDWEST yes I have I thrown weightless eels with this quite a bit and it’s not easy. It can be done but the free spool is very loose so you basically need to keep some type of thumb pressure on the spool at all times or it will immediately backlash. But after a few minutes I got it dialed pretty well but there’s other large low profile baitcasters out there that are designed for casting that will do a much better job. This is a jigging reel and I’ll keep it in its lane lol one I can recommend is the 13 fishing A3 or actually the Okuma Komodo is real nice too for about half the price but a stainless steel gear so you get great power and integrity
@kelvinmpatterson

Well I have few 6500s and few Penn's and even many cheaper reels. Tho these jiggin reels are so nice lookin very high drag and appear smaller then ur Penn's and Abu Garcia 7000s. So been looking into them jus beautiful lookin reel the design.

Thanks for advice guess I'll keep looking into the akios reels. No level wind for long casting. Figure since the jiggin reels didn't have level wind that maybe wud be gud at casting

In theory would I be able to bring in a goliath grouper on one of these reels? I mostly go for king mackerel, bonito, barracuda, ect. but sometimes I get a goliath grouper or shark on the line and I just want to know if the reel can hold up in a fight against one.
@Fishin203
@Fishin203 4 жыл бұрын
Ben H nooooooooooo. These are like Ferrari’s for striper fishing lol. I would never take a high quality reel and torture test in on giant grouper. Theoretically yes you probably could but I would never do it it’s a small reel in comparison to the larger tackle used for Goliaths

Ben H remember I’m not sponsored by any company in the world. I made these videos by a fisherman for a fisherman. So I can say whatever I want about these reels. So yeah I could use a pos avet single drag on a 500 pound shark and probably get it to the boat but that’s not what these reels are made for. If I were you and you’re lookin for a big fish reel I would go with a much larger reel so you’re not killing the poor thing. I love the car analogy because it’s so perfectly fitting. It’s like having a Honda vs a Ferrari they both can’t go off roading and serve the same purpose, one is just a lot more comfortable and enjoyable to drive. You can fuck these reels up if you beat on em.

Hello friend, good day, I have been watching your video, I need to decide between a Valiant 300 or a valiant 500N for yellow tail fishing around 30 pounds, which of these two sizes could you recommend? I like the 300 for its size and light weight, but I don't know if it is strong enough for this fishing, I just returned an Acurrate Tern 500n since it only held 3 Yellow tails and something broke
