Those fish in there will do anything to survive, which often involves shaking the hook free. They manage to survive extreme temperatures and all manner of predation, so don't be upset at losing that fish Carl. They're so attuned to survival!! A good tip is to fish to your right/left never in front of you, because it's so shallow they can see you and it puts them off taking your bait. I'm still learning after 35 years of fishing there. Great video Guys, loved it.

Being in fishery management I was asked to electro fish a private and to some degree a secret lake in southern England some 30 years ago. On arrival we found the lake to be very shallow. As we turned on the Electro’s fish started to bow wave towards a channel that was blocked by dense bank side overhanging foliage. We fought through this natural barrier and to our amazement we started to catch very similar fish to those in your mountain lake. They were every bit the original “king carp” description. Long sleek commons with unnaturally large tail and pectoral fins. Deep bronze in colour and magnificent specimens of the breed. The largest went to around 8lbs and the smallest was around 5lbs. I don’t know whether the water still exists as it was silting up quite badly in the main body of the lake. But the channel they bolted for was around 5 feet deep and quite long so it might be that they are still there. We removed around 30 that day and restocked them into a private lake in the Midlands. But when we left there were still plenty of fish we could have continued to capture. I only tell you this because although rare and few in number there are still lost outposts where these magnificent fish are still hanging on away from angling pressure and cross breeding. And long may they continue to do so. Just to witness one is an awe inspiring privilege. Well done guy’s.

Most beautiful carp I've ever seen!! Thank you guys! Please note: there are literally hundreds, if not thousands of bodies of water in North Wales like these. There is even the highest in Britain (completely natural) coarse lake in Denbighshire with pike up 20lb which carry a warning to anglers! They are advised to take a first aid kit as these pike are known to be extremely aggressive! Please turn your attention to North Wales!!!

I grew up catching only wild spawned exotics and native fish in Africa, to catch carp in the farm reservoirs (we call dams), using natural baits was always the best option - beetle grubs, dead bait fish and earthworms, cast out the baits, then just wait for them to move back into the swim. Club waters and national parks, the favoured bait was/is cooked maize paste with whatever flavouring each angler considered the best.
