Malibu pier was selected as a new fishing spot to try . We thought Friday would be best because less crowded , but folks come by the droves to enjoy the restaurants ,shops and take pictures on the pier.
Not many anglers , we did not try fishing way in the back. The small pier is charming , wooden floors. The water was clear you could see sandy bottom and see fish swimming 😍
We tried to get minnows to use as bait but they were skiddish , would not eat the bread bait.
Minnows were too busy out swimming Mackerel.
Mackerels were biting on the Sabiki hooks , caught and used as bait. Mackerel love Mackerel and so do Halibut however none were biting. 22 inch Halibut was the prize we were hoping for ,but settled for Mackerel.
Turns out Pacific Mackerel are not only tasty (not too fishy tasting) but loaded with healthy omega-3 oils . So we gave it a try. I need more practice removing all the bones, practice makes perfect .
We got there early so found street parking otherwise park in small lot for 15 dollars.
Check pier hours , early is best. It was a fun experience.
