The day I get to head north is always a good day. If I am already "north", getting to head even further is a treat. Haida Gwaii was the last official plan of the season, so heading up the cassiar for some late season fun was a no brainer. I absolutely love the Cassiar Highway, but I haven't actually gotten to explore it much, because I am usually just passing through on route north. This season I am able to really slow down and enjoy some of the adventures off of the highway. This entire route, from BC to Yukon is one of my favourites because start to finish it does not have cell phone reception, it is the ultimate release. In my case, that makes work a bit more of a challenge, but now having the starlink, I am able to stay in these locations basically until I am out of supplies.
The Skeena river valley, between Terrace and Prince Rupert is so beautiful, I think it is possibly one of the most under rated drives in BC. Most folks are just commuting from one town to the next, but if you take the time to really absorb the environment around you, it is truly spectacular. Turning in Terrace will take you into the Nass Valley, another frequently visited location on Destination Adventure, but one that I will never grow tired of. The lava beds of the Nass are a sad piece of history, but have left behind some really spectacular views. Beautiful blue rivers and lakes, appear and disappear as the water works its way towards the ocean. This time of year, with the fall colours, it is hard to make it very far without having to stop to take in another beautiful landscape.
Once you get to the Cassiar highway, make sure you know your route because supplies are limited. There are only a few places to get fuel, and only one place for groceries. Passing such a large area, with no access to service and limited supplies, may scare some of the travelers to the Alaska Highway, but for me there is no better route. Plus, if you have a boat, the fishing is fantastic.
As a traveler and a fisherman, the opportunity to get into a species I don't have access to back home is a real treat, and for me Pike fishing is the best. I have only been able to try a few times to catch a pike, but a couple of those days have been the best fishing days ever for me. Pike are aggressive feeders, so if you can find the right location the fishing can be very productive. It is hard to fly fish for Pike, because they have such sharp teeth, you have to use a piece of cable at the end of your line. That, plus a heavy fly, makes casting a real challenge and I am certainly no pro at it. I swing that heavy fly back and forth, until finally i get enough momentum to lob it out there twenty or thirty feet, but thats all it takes. I was on the water for about three hours all toll, and much of the time was taken up with filming, but still managed to get into a dozen fish.
These fish can get really big, and that can be so exciting, but for me it is just exciting to have such a productive and successful day. Pike is actually very good to eat, but they can be a challenge to fillet because of the bones. If my freezer wasn't full of salmon, I would have kept a pike, but this time was just for fun, and was it ever fun.

Exhilarating and beautiful ariel shots. I grew up on the West Coast of Canada, North shore of Vancouver, BC. Like a lot us growing up there we would take the beauty around us for granted. Dustin takes it to a whole new level. Surpassing National Geographic. He is a camera man, screen writer, editor, producer, special effects supervisor, special tips advisor, comedian, actor, thrill seeker and a great mechanic. I think he is up for a academy award for best Canadian content documentary series. Your Canada's National treasure. You continue to wow us in everyone of your series. Congratulations Dustin. (Sung to the Spider-Man cartoon theme song) Catcher-man Catcher-man, throws a lure whenever he can, spin-casts away enjoying the day, doesn't matter if it's sunny or grey, look out, here comes the Catcher-man, fishing rod in his hand, look out for Catcher-maaaaaaaaan. Wicked honey-hole bud. Nice job catching the lunkers, eh. That last one, she's a beaut. When the Birch and Poplar change in the fall, I want to be a little kid again, pressing leaves in-between wax paper to try and preserve those colours forever. The drive between Prince Rupert and Terrace, is one of the top ten scenic routes you can travel in Canada. I recommend all your viewers take the trip once in their lives. They will not be disappointed. Don't expect cell service everywhere. Remember the "golden rule", and treat the locals the way you want to be treated. Very friendly folk 'round here, but they have no time for spoiled city-slickers, so be respectful. If you are stuck on the side of the road, someone will stop to help you. Need directions? Someone will guide you. Need advice? You'll get more than an ear full. Started watching your channel when you posted the Harbour Machining weld job. Enjoyed every minute since. Very impressed Dustin. You've done good, showing off the North. Pat yourself on the back. Now, I'm looking forward to Mick's shop antics. Never know what that boy will get into. Frosty mornings ahead. I'm getting ready to hibernate. Hope you stay warm. Keep up the good work D. Safe travels... Cheers :)

@@Destination_Adventure Honestly! You remember Gold Trail and Ghost Towns. It was a simple show but 35 years later people still love that show. You have the ability to do a show that is syndicated nationally and internationally of the BC wilderness. Your videos are amazing and it would be a big hit on TV. Maybe Bill Barlee's station in Kelowna might be interested in doing a series with you. ALSO, Could you do all of a big favour and interview the former co-host of Ghost Trails and Ghost towns before he passes? I think it would be an amazing video of you talking to him about his show and all the locations they talked about. Ask him what it was like doing the show with Bill. You could also ask him all sorts of questions about the show. NOW, here is the fun part. Halfway through the video of you interviewing Mike Roberts about his life and show. He starts to interview you about your KZfaq series and your background. It would be a blast. The fans would get a huge kick out of it and it would cost nothing to produce. He would be doing a young and talented guy a favour and the fans could see Mike Roberts again. It would truly be an outstanding video for the archives.

Wow! Some of those shots were amazing! ( I said out loud.... "How did he shoot that") The camera moving with the truck , at 9:26.... very creative; drone footage? Great video again Dustin!

Loved seeing you get so excited, probably not as much as you loved catching them fish.

When I was about 8 years old or so. We were at a family cabin in waaaay NW Wisconsin. I took the jon-boat across the lake. Normally, a blue-gill or such was caught. You know...no teeth. I caught a Northern Pike and had no idea what to do with all the teeth. So...drove back across the lake, about a mile or so, and screamed for my uncle to help out. Another great tour Dustin. Thank you.

I've mentioned many times how you have inspired me to explore this province I've taken for granted all my life. Seeing you enjoy your own company made me realize I can do these things without waiting for a someone to do them with and have amazing life experiences solo on this beautiful planet. ❤️ I'm just surprised you haven't found my hiding spot in this tiny camper yet! 😂 Can't wait to see what we get into this winter ❤️🙌🥳

You’ll waste a lot of life waiting for someone to explore with. Just get out and start enjoying. 😊 and I’ll have you know, this camper is slightly above average hahaha

That scenery... from the colour of the leaves to that water... achingly beautiful. And an entire season of barely catching anything, to that gorgeous salmon in the last vid, to pike after pike in this one. Couldn't ask for a better spot.

Theres a botanical reserve couple of hours from here in New Zealand, and the place is amazing on a wet day. It just has a whole different appearance. Another plus is nearly nobody visits on a wet day, brilliant.
