TOPWATER FISHING is definitely the most exciting type of bass fishing you will experience. However, with so many different topwaters these days you could be throwing the wrong topwater at times!

If there is one technique that is close to my heart it is topwater bass fishing. It is extremely exciting and can yield some of the biggest bass that you will catch.
We have walking baits, poppers, whopper ploppers, buzzbaits, prop baits, wake baits, toads, frogs and more. Each of these topwater lures can yield different results under certain circumstances and in todays video I am going to try and break down when to throw each lure!
BassFishingHQ is dedicated to teaching people how to catch more and bigger bass. I will go over different bass fishing tips & techniques that will put more fish in the boat or on the shore. Whether you are just starting out or a seasoned tournament angler, my goal is to help you catch more bass.

hey Tyler, another great vid! I want to echo what you said about walking bait in middle of day. As you know, on herring lakes like Lanier, some of the best topwater is middle afternoon! Those herring get pushed up in water column and those Spots and right with them. !👍👍

Thanks, that was good, I learned a few things. My dad was a top-water master, it used to kind of frustrate me to be honest because I have never had a lot of luck with them and we'd be fishing and he'd be hauling them in on poppers, jitterbugs (especially after dusk) or scum frogs so I'd switch over to whatever he was using or something very similar and nope, nothing... he just said it was all in presentation once you figured out what they were hitting and he did know how to "work" them all real well, he said it just took a lot of practice. Once again thanks, those were some good tips.

Yes another great video Ty. Drone footage was excellent with the heart stopping strikes and content. I have experienced a bunch of those scenarios and by trial and error figured out a bite. But your analysis takes away so much guess work for us and others. My brother's best largemouth bass to date was a quad blade buzzbait fished in 50 degree water just fast enough to keep it afloat. Working on my walking/slash baits next...to flash tail or not is the $60,000 question

Loved your video, I greatly enjoyed it. I just subscribed and am looking forward to your next video. I was bit by the topwater bug at an early age. I had one lure the “baby bass” spook jr. and its all I used all summer. If I can find a sliver of an excuse to toss a topwater lure it’s game on for me in all 4 seasons. Something special about the top water angler…. 💯 it’s a blessing and a curse. I am the same way when fly fishing I want to always stick to dry flies. Lol

I quote you all the time while I am teaching my friend everything I know so far, this is his first season fishing and he is super hooked on topwater frogs after one day with them. BTW what's your thoughts on spiders? I have done well with them floating on a kayak on creeks with smallmouth but man they are light and awkward to use outside of being able to let them drift.

Great overview! I’m left with two questions: - Is a wake bait like a jerk bait, but doesn’t dive? -Is there a difference between using toads and frogs?
@austinmannigel8611
@austinmannigel8611 2 жыл бұрын
I can answer your first question. A wake bait just uses a steady retrieve and has an action similar to crank bait but on the surface. This creates a large wake in which a large shadow is produced in clearer calm water. It is also a slow retrieve, so the bass are willing to hit it even when they are not that aggressive and remains in the strike zone longer. Wake baits are great evening baits when the sun is setting until dark.

@@austinmannigel8611 Thanks, Austin! I’ve collected and lost many baits over the decades and am just now, in my sixties, learning their proper labels and usage. I caught my very first bass with a Rapala wake bait, at sunset, in a farm pond at Cal Poly SLO.
