This seems like a terrible study honestly. Killed so many fish, and also didn’t have the sample size anywhere near to make a claim like “41% of all bass will never be targeted”. Also this lake seems to be a special case because it was so over fished. Interesting results but scientifically this study is useless.

When I tie my dropshots if I’m not using worms, I use a loop knot to hold my hook about .5inch or less from the line I wanna get it as close as possible but I basically tie up a dropper rig w a mini loop coming off the main line with a hook attached for anything that has a top and bottom too it and I notice the drop shot acts a little more free and the loop absorbs some of the jolts you give the line w the rod making the action more softer and even more realistic

Bout 7 feet or less I’ll have it about 6-8 inches from the weight and I’ll use a 1/8oz sinker and just work it slow all up and down the water column like a lil fish exploring his new life in the wrong area

I’ll do a really slow pull up and back and reset my rod and let the drop shot coast down I always vary the pause between this and I occasionally give it a lil twitch on its downfall(like every other one but not literally in that pattern) [make it unpredictable like a little fish would be]

All great information.! I do find it interesting how often natural mortality is not discussed along with tounament post relaese mortality. It is to complicated of a math problem for me, but what percentage of the fish that die were going to die anyway from natual causes? 15 % could be debated but as with everything it depends on alot of factors!

You should definitely be wearing safety glasses. I noticed in your example the Palomar looked incorrect as the loop cinched towards your line when it should come from the line and cinch down towards the eye of the hook. I also saw several times where the knot wasn’t breaking but the line was. And lastly should should test a standard clinch knot. I was never convinced the improved was better.

Cod populations in the Baltic is gone. A fish so regular at some time you could not put bait in the water without catching dozens of juvenile fish is now so seldom you can fish for a week to get less than you would have gotten in a evening 10 year ago.

Good work looking at all those studies and sharing them!🧠 All anglers should keep the 20-30% mortality of C&R fish in mind and they should not try to catch as many as possible. I know this may be hard to wrap your head around but someone who C&R'd 20 fish a day likely has the same impact on the population as the fellow who caught and kept 5 fish for the table which is frowned upon on many lakes.

Ty, I recommend using a non slip loop knot when fishing anything with a presentation of an actual fish and spinnerbaits too, the action on those are way more natural with a loop knot
@hxrle.y_8522
@hxrle.y_8522 Күн бұрын
even doing all of these, especially the fish like artificials and crankbaits really benefit from this
@hxrle.y_8522
@hxrle.y_8522 Күн бұрын
spinners still give a good presentation without it and you can give them a jerk to change the position of the blades in the water colomn but if its used w a loop knot it will stand up in the water and be driven more in line

Also I like doing all of this but on my leader ill make a loop in the line about 6 inches up from the hook and make the loop about 6 inches, wrap the tag end through a few times lubricate and sench, cut the bottom line of the loop close to the knot and tie another hook on w a loop knot and rig both the offset straight shanks w the same fluke and throw a splitshot about 20ish inches up, my way of doing the double fluke rig

It’s pretty hard to stop cheating in tournaments unless each boat has an observer which would be impossible in most non pro tournaments. An even bigger problem than weights in fish is when guys fish for a week before the tournament and stash the big fish they catch in a cage in the lake then go pick them up when the tourney is on.

Even if 57% percent of fish are on featureless flats, if featureless flats make up 95% of the fishable area of the lake that would mean the highest concentrations of bass are still going to be along the bank. This would be more true for larger lakes than smaller lakes.

I hate tying the FG and have had the Alberto slip while on the water even after wetting and extensive tightening at home. I've never had the Double-uni fail after tying. For me, it's quick and easy and the peace of mind is more important then the little bit line strength I am losing. I live in the PNW and catch a lot of Chinook and Steelhead and very rarely have one break the line. Granted, line strength is important but knowing how to play a fish is just as important and peace of mind and confidence in your gear while fishing is the most important.

Fishing fast is the Tournament Mode mentality. I prefer to slow it down when fishing a frog even when searching around pads and grass. The Bass are there in most cases just have to see if they are wanting that particular lure or not and are wanting to feed (pattern). From my experience, the bigger Bass tend to want the frog to move a little slower and the smaller Bass don’t mind chasing and hitting a faster moving frog. I agree that at times you need to go fast and be in search mode but not while using a Frog. Plenty of other search baits for that but not frog fishing around heavy pads/grass. I appreciate your video and advice on certain things.

Nothing and I mean NOTHING even begins to scratch the numbers of fish caught and killed by commercial fishing. No amount of over fishing by private anglers or professional anglers can ever be blamed for the demise or our fish stocks. I realise you are focusing primarily on bass here, but many of those lakes and waterways are artifically stocked and thus face no real imminant danger. Even ag. runoff, which probably drawfs the numbers of fish killed by anglers, holds no cards against the commercial fishing industry. Every time you see an ad blaming anglers, agriculture, politics or anything else, it is paid for by commerical fishing lobbyist to pass the blame and blind us from the real problem...them.

Bass dont care to much about getting caught off the bank. Growing up id go catch the same bass same spot if i wasnt having a good day with new stuff. They dont like being moved. I did a science project when i was in middle school and documented around a thousand caught bass with pictures and all of the variables in the catch. 3-4 different locations i believe and a little over two years of time. It was interesting information i collected in pacific northwest waters. They really enjoy basking and grow best this way because its usually stress free environment for them and is best bank fishing if you can find these spots. The bass really dislike any predator like birds/ sometime boats im not sure if they are related but they go deep to get away from that stuff. Your logged information needs to be a lot more in depth with variables and a lot more fish involved. Water temperature/ depth and stress are big factors with largemouth bass they start getting good girth like that big one when they can stay somewhere warm and stressfree. Also i noticed for some reason if you started catching the same one on a regular basis - three things would happen they will almost always take what you put in front of them and they dont grow much after that for some reason last i could never understand why but over time they would end up being what i would nickname as (scarface) only described as very aggressive,unafraid and consistent as to where home was to them. Over time they would aquire more and more scars im assuming from predators as i would not cause the scars they would acquire but continued to have more over time. They were very adamant about remaining in the same exact place and didnt like stuff in the area they lived. Some become more territorial than anything. I dont think you have quite the impact on them as you think outside of being a nuisance though aha

Very interesting video. I'm confused tho. I know the numbers are right there in front of us BUT...the Uni and the Alberto both broke on the line. Meaning the knot held up and the LINE broke....so the line failed not the knot. However the FG broke at the knot instead of the line. Meaning the knot failed and not the line....I know the results are right there for us to see but that being said there could be other factors at play causing breaks ( ie age of line if the line had gotten wet, whether or not lines were wetted when tying) I'm just saying. The uni and Albert knots withstood the test and the lLINE broke (wich is what we want --better the line break than the knot fail. Even tho the line didn't break with the fg theknot failed (which is what we don't want).....I dunno, am I making any sense..or does anyone agree or understand what I'm saying...I'm just saying the knot failed on the fg instead of the line snapping like the other two

It's good to see your testing lines up with what I use. I use the FG for braid to fluorocarbon and the SD Jam to terminal tackle. Went on a 5 day charter out of San Diego last year and managed to get some old timers that were hell bent on using the Alberto, to switch to the FG. Sponsored charters are a blast because there are classes on knot tying and rigging while motoring between fishing spots.
