In this episode, we target one of Victoria's largest fish the mighty Southern Bluefin Tuna, with unparalleled speed, power and beauty. We venture down to the south coast, renowned for giant barrel tuna. We fish from Portland although you can also catch these massive fish around Port Fairy, Port MacDonnell, closer to the heads of Port Phillip Bay and beyond.
Rigged with big heavy game gear including Tiagra 50w we marvel at the volume of dolphins, seals and gannets and work our way through some challenging easterly winds to catch a 100kg southern bluefin Tuna. This episode also covers heaps of helpful tips to help you catch tuna too. For some this is a helpful guide on tuna fishing for beginners.
If you would like to book a personal guiding service with Matt Cini to learn how to catch tuna, kingfish, snapper or deep dwellers then please contact matt directly or email us for contact details.
Follow FishingMad’s fishing adventures by kayak, land, boat, jet-ski & drone. Sharing helpful tips and techniques with soft plastics, lures & bait. Covering Saltwater and Freshwater locations fishing in the bay, offshore, lakes and estuaries. The channel is fun and relatable so make sure you subscribe.

Thanks Andrew !! I've always tried to make the program relatable to viewers. Yeah were just trying to keep it real, were out there battling and learning just like everyone else. I make mistakes on the water but I learn from them and I'm honestly not built for offshore swells and im sure so many can relate to this. Thanks for watching and I appreciate the feedback !!

Thanks !! I really hope you enjoyed it. Thanks for having me along for the journey. Yep, you looked spent at the end of it, but understandable when battling a 100kg fish. Thank you so much, yeah the effort to put these vids together is crazy. 10 hours travel, 1 full day on the water followed by 30 hours of video editing. Its punishing at times but I love the process, the adventures and the people you meet. Travelled thousands of kilometres this year to cover a variety of locations and species, next focus is some land base stuff to keep the content fresh. Thanks for watching and supporting.

First off amazing video and i love your content! Thank you! Secondly, Hi Alan, I'd like to ask for some advice. Can i use Aird xt combo (7ft 2-5kg or 1-3kg) or (7ft6 3-6kg) for land based bait fishing for the "bread and butter species"? Im hoping to do more bait fishing than soft plastics (and maybe lure fishing too). Whats your advice and which model would you chose? Thanks in adv
@fishingmad
@fishingmad Ай бұрын
Thank you, glad you enjoyed the vid and yes 100% a 7 foot or so Aird in 2-4kg or 1-3kg is perfect for bread and butter species. Just remember 1-3kg with a 1000 reel is better for finese species like bream and 2-4kg paired with a 2500 size reel is more general purpose for pinkies, flathead, whiting, redfin, trout etc. Personally i love rods around 7 foot in length and find if rigged properly still cast really well. Aird are a great option in the entry level space.
@humblemumble1
@humblemumble1 Ай бұрын
@@fishingmad thanks for a prompt reply! Thank you for your advice! I reallly appreciate your help! I was judt worried about the lure rating as for land base I'd be using sinkers and all. However i guesss you'd have to gauge it to the current and use the appropriate set up for the appropriate day. Thanks once again !
@fishingmad
@fishingmad Ай бұрын
Yeah that's exactly right and most lures and soft plastics don't weigh much at all, its only once you start casting spoons and metals that lure weight can be a real problem. When targeting bream your using jigheads between 1/28 - 1/12 most commonly and when targeting pinkies, flathead that sort of stuff 1/12 - 1/6 and those rods can handle that easily.
