In this video I show you the ingredients of my own Homemade Groundbait and how to mix it. I have been using this exact mix for the past few years and it has worked really well for all my pleasure and match fishing.
I use Turmeric as my additive for flavouring the mix because I am mostly fishing for Carp. Turmeric also has the added benefit of turning the groundbait to a nice light brown colour, which fits in really well in waters with a relatively light coloured sandy bottom.
If you want to change the additives and flavours of this mix, please feel free to experiment, but the base mix of breadcrumbs and ground chicken layer pellets should probably stay the same.

Had great results from using cheap supermarket muslie .....just add white crumb to bind .....Great for tench,bream nd carp 😉👍

Hi Den, congrats on the 10k subs, you're absolutely right about the turmeric ground bait, it really does work. It's the only ground bait I use ever since mentioned it way back in your early videos, why change something that works, like they say if it ain't broke don't fix it. Simple Cheap & Effective as title said!Today i went and tested this on canal while cage feeder fishing i am amazed had few carps roach bream and carassios for january just amazing thank you for sharing this with us!I wont be buying groundbait anytime sooner :)

Coriander is often used as an additive for Roach James. I don't know how effective it will be for Carp, but I'll find out later in the year.

Very useful Den, I have also tried brioche (one of our local shops sells loaves of it) I bake it dry in a low oven and add it, ground up, to my ground bait. It's yellow and sweeter than bread and possibly a bit more sticky ( so I don't add too much). I have had some good bream when using it as an addition

Hi Ray. I freeze it all the time mate. Just make sure you don't leave sweetcorn in it from the previous session because the sweetcorn will float after freezing.

Hi Den. I used this for the first time at the weekend on my local pond. Had decent results & hooked into a good number of carp on the method feeder. I did though lose 5 fish in weeds close to the bank. Any suggestions on how I can stop losing these fish & get them in the net?? Thanks for the videos- I’m definitely benefiting from your expertise

Hi. Thanks for your comments. Without seeing exactly what you are experiencing, it's a little difficult to provide advice, but here goes: 1. Tighten the drag down as the fish gets closer, so it cannot take line. 2. Use a heavier rod, reel and line so you can bully the fish out. You might even be able to stop them getting into the weeds in the first place. 3. Hold your rod up high as they go into the weeds. If they are growing vertically (like bullrushes), you stand a better chance of getting them out. 3. Move slightly further down the bank, so you have more room to manoeuvre the fish away from the weeds. 4. Give up, go home, pour a large glass of Red Wine and put your feet up while you cogitate upon your failings. 😁😁👍👍

Hi Den, please do excuse me as I am a 100% total beginner, I have now made this up, and will be trying out later this week, is this an ALL-year-round method feeder ground bait? Hi Ray. You don't need to freeze the mix when its in powder form. I have kept it in those clip seal plastic bags for months like that. You only need to freeze it after it is mixed with water if you want it to last for a long time. After mixing, it will also last for a few days in the fridge. You will know if it has gone off by the change in smell. I hope that helps mate.

Hi Pete. I'm in NSW and I just fish local public venues, plus some private ones where I have obtained permission from the owners. As I understand it, there are far fewer spots in Queensland for Carp due to their distribution getting more sparse as you go further North. Try joining Aussie Carp Fishos on Facebook. There are some other anglers there who have asked similar questions in the past. You may be able to get more info that way.

Does it not go mouldy with it having breadcrumb in it ?

The breadcrumb is dry during storage Paul, so it can be kept for months. After mixing, if I don't use it, I just put it in the freezer.

I use Vitalin Original dry dog food, which is cereal and flaked maze, instead of bread crumbs as the main base. In the UK you can get 15 Kgs for £20. It can be mixed with just water, course with flavouring or put through a blender to a power, excellent and a cheap alternative to all of the flavoured manufactured ground baits in the UK.

Great video as usual Den. Are fish farm pellets available in aus to put through your grinder?plenty of manual varieties online available too. Saves on electricity that way.

Thanks Scott. if you mean the hard Trout Pellets, the answer is yes. The powder I showed on the video was ground down through the grinder for the video. One point I must mention though, is that I rarely use fish based products down here. It simply fills your swim with Turtles and Eels.

10k Den !! Thats what well refer to you know i think. Ha ha. What would be the approxamate cost of this batch of groundbait. Iv gone to pva net putting pellet in it as my groundbait is either always a bit goldilocks. Bit too wet or a bit too dry. Jus cant get the consistancy right. Hence the reason i use pva bags now. Cant think i make many freinds on the bank showering my neighboring pegs with grounbait mortar bombs. Quite embarrasing.

Hi Gavin. The cost would really depend on whether you bought the breadcrumbs in small bags like me or bought sacks of it from the bakery. Of course, if you used left over slices of bread, the cost would be even lower. I've never actually calculated how many batches I get out of a sack of Chicken Layer Pellets either, so I'm afraid I can't really answer your question. As a guess, if a bag of breadcrumbs costs £1.35, I reckon the rest would probably total up to £2 to £2.50.

I think people complicate feed too much. It use to be just boil corn or wheat, and go with worms, maggots or bugs on hook. And now we put spices like its michelin kitchen 🤦. There is no need to do that, especialy when we have plastic rockets, disolvable bags... If the fish is there, they will eat any bait.
