In today's video, let's talk about some UNDERRATED brands of ultralight fishing gear on the market that you should definitely check; These three rod options are based on my personal opinion, and I ranked them based on their prices, quality, what they are made from / sensitivity, and their action ratings.
What is an ultralight spinning rod?
An ultralight spinning rod is a type of fishing rod specifically designed to be paired with an ultralight spinning reel. These rods are engineered to be extremely lightweight, often constructed from materials like graphite or carbon fiber to achieve this. Their lightweight design allows for greater sensitivity and finesse when casting and retrieving, making them ideal for targeting fishing situations where delicacy and precision are paramount. Ultralight spinning rods are favored by anglers who prioritize agility and responsiveness in their fishing gear.

Glad I found your video. Finally someone that is not hung up on super fabulous, super cool and super expensive tackle. I use a lot of fiberglass rods as well as way more expensive ones. Maybe glass rods aren't as sensitive but I usually hold the line and or watch my rod tip. What I absolutely abhor are foam handles. My last Ugly Stick was a $1.00 garage sale pickup that I rebuilt with cork.. (Don't ever let your wife sell your tackle). I agree that 5' or a bit longer is ideal for ultra light. I did build a 10' crappie rod and it's nice for that.

If you are desparate so you start throwing trout magnets on 2# line it will take so much time for that 1/64th jig to hit the bottom it won't be and issue, however. If you don't have an ultralight with light line you may not be able to cast the tiny lures to the fish. I'd rather go ultralight than get skunked.

In 65 years i never paid more than $75 bucks for a Rod. Had the good fortune to come across Star Rods back in mid 90's in South Florida. Star Rods Aerial series ($82 dollars now) lasted me 3 decades. Six foot rod was perfect for Yak fishing. Caught everything from crappie to 25-30 pound shark while surf fishing Canaveral National Seashore. Star uses what they call E-Glass ---- regardless killer spinning rod. Oklahoma Striper Guide i came across a couple months ago uses BPS Fish Eagle. $80 Bucks currently ---- i'll be buying one for 2025 fishing season !

Hey @rickr9055... my apologies for not including the links... I will definitely work to update the rest of my videos. Thanks for tuning in and leaving your comment. I love hearing from you guys!! Yes, I do use the two piece. I'm normally not a fan of the two piece rods, but with the Celilo I haven't noticed a difference in 1 piece vs 2 piece, the graphite is still very sensitive. The link you are looking for is right here (sorry about that): amzn.to/3wKyjVh This will bring you to an amazon page with multiple length rods. For bank fishing I'd recommend the 5'6" or 6'6" (depending on the overhangs, and coverage your fishing under) for kids I'd recommend the 5' rod, its easier for them to handle. If you are interested in the other gear I cover in the videos these are some of the links to the reels and other rods I discuss in this video and other ultralight videos on the channel. I've always loved my Finwicks. I have the Finwick Eagle and HMG. From what I hear of the HMX , it will take a chunk out of St Croix sells. Fuji guides and seat .....I gotta get it for trout. I recently broke my Finwick Eagle after 7 years. Someone stepped on it. I replaced it with a Favorite Brush Dobber. Nice rod for $40 one piece. Spur of the moment buy. A light medium. That's what I have been using instead of ultralight lately. I'm gonna be ready for the big one and not gonna have a story about the one that got away. 😅

I have tried a bunch of different ultralight rods the past 4 years, some I still have, and some went into the trash. The worst so far was the berkley lightning rod. The best so far, ugly stik elite ultralight in 5'. Why? Because it never broke. I'll admit I can be clumsy with my rods, but I'm always fishing in places where my rod can get damaged and ugly stik hasn't let me down in that department. The elite series are graphite, so they're not too bad for sensitivity. But I value durability more than anything else, nothing worse than spending $150+ on a rod only to have to deal with a warranty or waste money buying another one.

Ive had a Celio now for about 5 years have caught tons of fish on it. Recently a 10lb Channel cat on it. However, it doesnt throw anything under 1/16th oz ( its sweet spot it seems) that great. I have a TFO Panfish/Trout that can. Yet its strong enough to land that 10lb catfish i mentioned earlier if the need arises. However, that cost 5 times what the Celio retails for. II did manage to get the outgoing model on sale. I hated the split handle but got use to it. I just wish the rod was cheaper..

Niceeeee Glad to hear you enjoyed the video and have some experience with the gear!! I love hearing feedback like this. What size line are you using on the celilo? Just curious, I use 2lb mono and i am able to cast 1/64 and 1/32 ounce jig heads pretty well... I'm just wondering if you have heavier line on (like 4 or 6 pound mono) if that is making a big difference in the distance casting. I do love the celilo, no doubt, and yeah it can handle some big fish, but my favorite is definitely that st croix panfish series rod. Your 100% correct, costs 5x the amount though. Pros and cons to everything haha. So what is your favorite panfish rod? the TFO or the Celilo or something else? Great comment... your spot on!! @@Johnnyfishalot Ive mostly used 6lb but occasionally have used 4lb. Ive never tried 2lb test. I think the TFO Trout/Panfish is better its a bit more flexible. It can cast 1/32oz pretty effectively. However, for years i used the Celio and it wasnt utnil i got the TFO rod last year did it make a difference. I did want to get the St Croix just didnt want to spend that $ for a UL rod. I had got a god deal on the TFO-Panfish/Trout so i splurged. I also liked the Cadence essence the action is great. However, the rod proved to brittle.
