I have the sense, it arrived on launch day (25th) and so far I love it. My last fitbit was the ionic and the sense is a massive huge improvement. This is the fitbit I have been waiting for. I'll never have an apple watch because the apple phones bore me to tears and I think that the sense and versa 3 watches are a massive improvement from fitbit. You do get a 45 day return with fitbit so it's easy to try the watch for yourself. Great video though 👌

Just FYI Fitbit does state when using “always on display” you’ll get 2 days battery life and I can see on your versa display when you swipe left that your always on display is on. I like the review but you should have called it a comparison video to the Apple Watch your using.

Like I said in the video, I am using the watch as a “power user.” I’m not going to get the kind of battery life that other people will get mostly because of how much GPS I use (90ish minutes a day) and I kept the watch face “always-on.”

You aren’t the only one that has said that. I think Fitbit underestimated how many people used that option. That said, in an ideal world they would simply start working with Spotify to allow Premium subscribers to download music to the watch (like you can on a Garmin watch).

@donavonhornbeck
@donavonhornbeck 3 жыл бұрын
As a runner I can tell you that I’d much rather have the Vivoactive 4s (which I also reviewed). Tonight I’ll make a video for the Venu SQ, and part of that video will probably include a recommendation that someone consider the Vivoactive 4s as well. To end a workout on the Versa 3 you have to turn on the screen (though I use the option for always on during a run), and then slide up from the bottom and hit end. My honest opinion is that it would be a good option for a casual runner, but for a more serious runner I’d recommend a Garmin watch all day.

I love my Fitbit verse 2 as a device to help get generally more active. Highly successful. As I’m getting more into running though I’m finding the lack of GPS to be annoying and I’m looking to upgrade. Very disappointed in versa 3 from what I’m seeing. Heavily leaving toward switching to a Garmin. Garmins have everything new fitbits have but more robust analytics and more refined package. Thoughts?
@donavonhornbeck
@donavonhornbeck 3 жыл бұрын
I would agree. I do think that Fitbit has Garmin beat in the community aspect, because Fitbit has a robust community that provides more challenges and motivation. However, as a runner I tend to use Strava for that purpose. That said, Garmin definitely offers more in terms of running analytics, and I find a more accurate option as well (not that the Fitbit has been terribly inaccurate for me).

I made a video about a month ago where I compare the heart rate readings on multiple watches. My Garmin (ones made in the last two years) and Apple watches (from the Series 4 and on) are consistently dead on with each other in terms of HR readings. I’ve actually found HR straps to be less consistent for me if that’s what you are referring to as “proper” HR device.

The calorie count is based completely on the inputs you put into the watch (your height/weight) and your heart rate, so as long as it’s getting a good heart rate reading the calorie burn will also be accurate.

@donavonhornbeck
@donavonhornbeck 3 жыл бұрын
No, the LTE version isn’t any “more” or less accurate. Her watch is most likely off because it’s using the calibrated distance instead of GPS only. I turn the calibrated distance off in the app I use (WorkOutDoors) so that it uses the GPS only for tracking. If I run through thick woods I will turn the calibrated distance back on though.

I sold my apple watch to get a fitbit again. First: battery life is a pain in the ass with apple. Second: fitbit tracks every movenent automatically from the beginning. Apple asks you after a while if you are walking and if you want to track. Therefore you have to start a Tracking manually every Time you ride a bike or go for a walk or the output of the burned calories is not accurate. Third: the apple apps for fitness are crap. In the fitbit appe you have everything combined in one app. By the way: the apple watch didnt even have a complication to display your steps on the watchface. Im so glad to have a fitbit again

duenben I download an app which shows my approximate step count in relation to my goal. I returned my Fitbit versa 2 for my Apple Watch s5 cos 1) it gave me skin burn from the HR, And 2) I was disappointed with the accuracy. Now I don’t know about the versa 3, but my versa 2, there was always something going wrong, the smart features that made the watch just a bit more fancy, was on and off. I truly wanted to love my Fitbit but it gave me more frustrations honestly. I’d rather have accurate sensors than a more battery life. I also ended up getting a Garmin vivoactive 4, not rly a smart watch but very very accurate, with a very long battery life. It’s turned out a best of both worlds, and Fitbit is my very last option. Although, the community app was a very good experience, amazing for people to get into fitness, but I’m pretty accountable with my health so wasn’t very necessary for me

To be clear, I don’t need that many apps. I want a watch to do 3 things well (give me notifications, track my workouts accurately, and to be able to listen to music/podcasts while I run). The other apps on my Apple Watch I’m just too lazy to delete and really have no reason to get rid of them. I'm going to say something some people may not like: there's a terrible flaw in the Sense & Versa 3. You cannot transfer your own mp3 music to the watch. You can only load/play music from a paid Pandora, Deezer, or Spotify account. Please keep this in mind before buying. I just want to save you from being disappointed. Not to imply that the Sense & Versa 3 are bad devices, but the inability to transfer your own music/playlists may be a deal-breaker for some perspective buyers. 😐
@donavonhornbeck
@donavonhornbeck 3 жыл бұрын
Actually you can’t transfer music from Spotify either, it only works as a controller for Spotify music. The other two (Pandora and Deezer) do allow you to download playlists though.

I’ve been working hard since March to try and get back to the shape I was in back in 2006 when I ran my PR for the marathon (yes... 14 years ago). I’m getting there for sure, but at 38 it takes a bit more work to get into shape.

Apple fanboy reviewing a Fitbit watch? Hmm interesting
@donavonhornbeck
@donavonhornbeck 3 жыл бұрын
Turns out I’m an Apple fanboy because the Apple Watch is just flat out a better watch. Fitbit “wins” on battery life over the Apple Watch and with a lower price, but I simply can’t think of another area where it can compete.

@@donavonhornbeck Perhaps the Apple watch is better on everything except battery life and price but none of the Apple watch limitations were ever mentioned in your review. Transparency and honesty are missing in action.

It's now 2022 and I have to say this has been an absolutely dreadful device. I hate it. It annoys me. It frustrates me. Highly unreliable HR monitoring during workouts, inaccurate GPS distance calculation, wrist band is a terrible design - it was the first thing I disposed of. Bluetooth connectivity, and hence sync is very unreliable. Consequently Assistant rarely works making it completely pointless. After 6 months of ownership I'd come to absolutely loathe this piece of tech failure and regret the day I fiest placed it on my wrist . I do not trust anything about it except it does appear to tell the time quite accurately. The FitBit forums are absolutely overwhelmed with user complaints re the Versa 3 and generally poor response from Fitbit "support". My real-world advice: absolutely DO NOT BUY. I do not hold up much hope for their new Versa 4.

Why somebody should buy anything except the Apple watch when it's a gold standard in which other watches are compared to?
@donavonhornbeck

I won’t disagree, unless it’s a die hard distance athlete, because I’d say Garmin watches are better in that case (because of the better battery life).

The battery life is much shorter on the Apple Watch but the reviewer didn't bother to mention that.

what about bip s if battery life is a concern? Isn't it the best choice after Apple watch? Seems to have an accurate hr and GPS and five times cheaper than garmin the only difference between garmin and bip s is probably advanced analytics and navigating which I don't think is important at all.

Below 95% is considered low. And I would definitely consider myself healthy (I run 80 miles a week), so 94% is maybe a very little bit concerning. Not to the point where I’m going to see a go see a doctor, but still a bit odd.

What metric exactly are you using to say blood oxygen is more accurate on Apple Watch? Fitbit doesn’t do spot readings cause it is pointless. Apples doesn’t really do it through sleep where blood oxygen aliments would be detected. So.... can we have your evidence?
@neiltaylor513

The other issue you have is Apple Watch doesn’t track heart rate all the time, it takes a reading every 10 minutes or so, Fitbit takes a reading every few seconds
@donavonhornbeck

Actually spot SPo2 isn’t pointless in two scenarios. 1) you have a respiratory illness like COVID-19, and 2) you are at elevation where the air is thin. As for accuracy, I can’t speak on that one, I bought the Apple Watch SE that doesn’t support SPO2, but when compared to my Garmin Venu SQ, the Fitbit is giving very similar SPO2 readings (at least while I sleep).
