Intro:
Over the last weeks I’ve extensively tested the new Fitbit Versa 4 alongside its more expensive brother, the Sense 2. And in this video we will take a comprehensive look at the heart rate accuracy, sleep tracking performance, GPS tracking and step counting accuracy of this brand new watch from Fitbit. As always, my videos are not about listing the specs, but instead we will focus on independent and unbiased performance testing of this new Fitbit Watch.
I did want to make two remarks before getting to the test results. The first is that this Versa 2 looks very similar to the Sense 2, and the main difference between the two is that the Fitbit Sense 2 has a few additional health features. Specifically, the Sense 2 can measure your electrodermal activity and help with stress management, it can also take an ECG measurement to potentially detect a type of irregular heart rhythm called Atrial fibrillation or AFib in short, and finally it will measure your skin temperature changes between nights, which could help you track your menstrual cycle, or the onset of a fever. The second thing I wanted to mention is the pricing; The Fitbit Versa 4 will set you back about 230 dollars, whereas the Sense 2 is slightly more expensive at 300 dollars. If you do decide you want to buy one of these two watches, I would base it on both the test results I am going to show you, and also if the additional features that the Sense 2 offers are something you would use. Now, let’s dive into the test results.
Overall the Fitbit Versa 4 did not impress me. Similar to the Fitbit Sense 2, it did not really feel like an upgrade compared to previous generations. The heart rate tracking was honestly pretty bad, and the GPS tracking was also quite underwhelming. The step counting was OK, though not great, since it counted quite some steps when it was not supposed to. The only thing I can really recommend it for is for sleep stage tracking; which is something that Fitbits seem to be good at in general.

Amazing content. I have been following your channel for just over a year ( I think), like how you have been consistently testing individual device, then put them in your compare chart. VERY GOOD PRRATICAL ideal. Was wondering if you would look into digital scale, like mi scale 2, I have one, but always wondering how accurate the date is. Awesome video thank you for so much for all the time and effort! Do you know what would be the most reliable Wear OS smart watch that would be best for tracking workouts? I currently have a Tic Watch Pro 3 but I don't believe it's that reliable because of your Tic Watch Pro 3 Ultra Test. I would love a review of all the Wear OS watches if there are any you would recommend!

Have you tested the Amazfit Bip 3? I can see that the older Amazfit models were terrible. However, some redditors are claiming that the newer models have fixed the issue. I’d be very interested to see you test it with newer methodology.

Hi Rob,can you give advice about certain features of smart watch,that would be the best ones in that part of monitoring, together and overall. I m intersted in sleep trackong and weightlifting tracking - so ,the best watch for those two categories ,in general. Important detail - best ones,but not expensive,I know that apple 8 or gt3 pro would be good choice ,but is there something more convenient,that doesnt require taking a lone from the bank...:)

I sent back my Sense and bought a second hand Inspire 2 for £30 (€34) in as-new condition. 2 week battery and just the best fitbit product released.

@@TheQuantifiedScientist Actually using the Apple Watch, Oura ring and Inspire 2 in combination, a bit overkill 😂 - I find the Oura actually estimates my readiness level the best, the Apple Watch has the most accurate data but pretty poor presentation of it and difficult to draw actionable conclusions - it's also sometimes hit and miss, sometimes it detects 12 hours of sleep for no apparent reason - and Fitbit to avoid FOMO and it presents data nicely.

I have the inspire 2 it's great but I wear my Tic Watch pro 3 I love having Google pay and being able to call text, control smart devices, set timers and stop watches, ask it questions it's not that reliable based on Rob's testing though I wish there was something on Android with super reliable health tracking that also has Wear OS and doesn't cost a bunch of has a subscription. Cause Huawei doesn't support play services as far as I know. And I know how accurate that gt runner is thanks to Rob!

I have a stupid question, since I'm not very familiar with the subject: don't you have to calibrate the heart rate monitor from Polar that you use as a reference device from time to time? I mean, the police also have to calibrate their alcohol meters from time to time, so that they always give the exact values, or don't you have to do that with the heart rate monitors?

You don't need to do anything, the chest strap recives updates many times.

My uncle gave the versa 4 as a gift for my birthday and it does everything well except for the gps when going out. For some reason when I have not used the gps for a few days it simply does not want to connect and even when it does it is extremely inacurate, even in the open.

Please review the third party Apple Watch apps! I got the Apple Watch SE because of its most accurate sleep tracking capability but there native sleep app does not provide much actionable feedback… I was wondering if the Apple Watch apps u previously reviewed became much more accurate now that apple’s headwear and native app have improved so much! It's kind of strange you assume Polar is correct when it drops your heart rate from 100 to 70 randomly and then back up to 100... And that's the reason the versa 4 is inaccurate? Isn't that showing your polar monitor might have slipped off or isn't that accurate?

Just seen the video really enjoyed it Rob, having never owned a smartwatch before I’ve spent the past few days reading reviews etc, currently own an iPhone 11 so the obvious answer would be the Apple Se 2022 but battery seems a problem. Did look at Amazefit but obviously they didn’t perform well in the test. I’m mainly just interested in recording steps checking my blood pressure etc and sleep.

I recently exchanged my Versa 4 for the Versa 2 due to how consistently inaccurate the hr monitor was. It was almost always 30-50 bpm lower than what my Charge would detect. I could feel my heart practically beating out of my chest but the watch would say 119. After doing some digging, I found this is an issue with the Versa 4 and Sense 2 due to their new hr detection “upgrade.” I know that sports watches are never perfectly accurate, but I’d like to be as close as possible (while being brand loyal lol) and the Versa 4 just wasn’t cutting it.

Obviously not the primary concern on this channel, but the Versa 4 removing music control/spotify 3rd party means basically the watch is dead in the water to me regardless of how good the tracking is. Sad considering the beautiful the watch is, and how the Versa 3 had that functionality.

The latest Sense/Versa are MAJOR disappointments...who knew allowing employees to work from home could be...non-optimal. Maybe next year...until then I'll keep my $45 Mi Band 7.
