I carry one of those jump packs in the back of my Range Rover. Keep it plugged so it’s always at the ready. NOT, I hasten to add, to start the Range Rover but saves using jump leads and much easier than humping a charged battery round to start tractors. Also agree on Bahco adjustables - streets ahead of the rest.

For the map gas torch I bought one in the States 3 years ago and it is bloody fantastic ! I think it was around $40 or less ( just the torch, obviously getting a pressurised map gas canister(s) onto a trans-Atlantic plane is a no no lol I also have a Range Rover, a 4.2 Supercharged, and I've had it just a year now. I put a brand new battery of 110 Ah rating, I also put a brand new Mercedes Diesel battery as a back up under the floor below the secondary fuse/ relay block. Back in late September I started to get staring problems, and I have the RAC (Chinese I suppose) combined starter/ air pump/ light unit. And had to use that a good few times and the Rangie started up every time. I kept charging the main battery over about three weeks but it wouldn't hold a charge above 10.5v ( I disconnected both battery leads as I know rangies can be funny when being charged as so many things are still on when the ignition is off.I may have put it on charge the first time with the positive connected but I can't remember.so it spoke to the guy I got it from, and I've been dealing with him for more than 40 years including as a mobile spanner man back in the day. And he told me to bring it back. Low and behold one of the cells had gone down. I got a new battery replacement there and then. That's when the fun started! All the electrical systems went fucking haywire! I had to re set computer modules left and right. Within two days my air suspension went haywire and I've just received in the post a second hand guaranteed air sus module this morning. While I have it apart I've bought an aluminium air reservoir tank off eBay coz my steel one is extremely rusted and suspect and as they are rated to 22 bar( 330psi) I'm not going to risk it. I also go a brand new unwanted air compressor unit as well wish me luck Matt lol

Beta tools are excellent! When I first started in a workshop I had them because one of the "bend-over-lube-up" vans carried them, and they were a fraction of the price of snap on. In fact, by the time I was looking at a filled cabinet, they were not much more than a similar Sealey set.

I've watched your comments on tools in the past & appreciate them. As you say; most tool reviews are trying to sell them, or done by people who rarely use them & thus bloody worthless. As for tool costs: Buy once, cry once is a bloody good way to go for anything but the occasional use. Please do more of these as & when you feel you have something worthwhile to pass on.

Hey Matt, we use Milwaukee battery tools (impacts (3/4 & 1/2"), grinder, reciprocating saw and hoover), excellent bits of kit, just to add to what you say doesn't the app also lock the impact and you can use the 8 amp/hr battery which makes the impacts even stronger when trying to loosen seized fasteners, agree with you about Bahco adjustable spanners --- we've still got that Leyland roadtrain with the Rolls Royce/Perkins eagle motor by the way
@fittermat
@fittermat Жыл бұрын
in the 18v impact stuff they seem unbeatable at the minute, especially when you factor in value for money. Is the road train for sale?
@stevehill4615
@stevehill4615 Жыл бұрын
@@fittermat agree with you about the 18v stuff (I'd never been a fan of battery stuff till we started using Milwaukee tools), also yes it's for sale you need to look up Dave Rushton machinery for our number (roadtrain's not listed on the site but is for sale) we're just outside uttoxeter, give Dave or Debbie a call (I'll let them know you may call) tell them Steve put you onto them and come over and have a look round.

1 thing if you rig up a 12 - 240v for a compressor and maybe a 2nd battery to go with it so van doesn't end up flat as a pancake itself , you might be able to run a little welder in all off it , just that you have enough juice to burn 1 or 2 rods youd be ok

Love all your videos Matt! Especially this one, very enjoyable to sit back and have you waffle on. One thing I would say, that would vastly improve your videos is to improve on audio with a lav mic. Either a Rode SmartLav+ (the plus is important), or something else similar, as often when you’re clambering over vehicles it can be difficult to hear you properly.

Got to agree on the bahco adjustable spanners, I'm a maintenance man in a factory, mostly work on welding robots and there is always very little space to put anything down without it deciding to bugger off to Timbuktu a bahco adjustable does get you out of the crap giving you a range of spanner sizes you can just stick in a pocket, no other brand makes adjustables as good as bahco ones, accept no substitute! Their pump pliers/pipe grips, whatever you want to call them are also excellent, always carry a pair of them around with me!

Hi Matt..... I enjoy your videos always interesting so thank you for posting. Ive been using Xi-on sockets for a while now, they are 6 point and grip very tightly on damaged, corroded, or rounded off nuts and bolts, due to their inner profile. I have Xi-on sockets in 1/4", 3/8", and 1/2" drive both shallow and deep and they have never been a problem, including using a 24" breaker bar with a scaffold pole!
