I look at fitting a DRO to the Victor Lathe. Part two shows fitting the Z Axis to the Lathe Bed and Saddle.

Thanks Cam you answered a lot of my potential questions for adding a DRO to my Harrison - the right way. LOL

Hi Cam, nice video, great timing, we need 1 custom bracket for here, see we are installing 3 DRO's, one on a surface grinder and 2, 1 each on 2 benchtop mills, so nice to see your efforts, our lathe is already done (Pain it was) still great to see your efforts. Good looking stable fit for that bracket. Lance & Patrick.

Gday Cam, the scale fitted up very neatly, a dro for the mill and the lathe is on the wish list, hopefully soon

Yep, really worth while fitting up DRO's. They take a lot of the guess work out and save so much time. At the cost they are now it's worth the money. Just be prepared to spend a lot of time getting them right buts its worth it. Cam

Hello Cam, Turned out well... I will be interested to see the cable management work as there always seems to be so much spare when people fit the DRO's... I understand that manufacturing one size fits all keeps the price down of the component parts but it is always nice if you can make the installation look good as well as function well... Take care. G'Day Paul, these cables are way to short to get back to the DRO from the end of the Drag Chain. I will need to fit extensions to them in the same way I did on my other Lathe. Any excess I just coil up and hold together with a cable tie, keeps it reasonably neat. Cam

Apart from your Victor being a bit bigger, there are still enough similarities that once I can purchase a DRO it will be a similar install process. I like your methodology, especially as the supplied hardware was less sub-optimal and you had to make your own way of making it work!

This one is easy peasy! The cross slide is a different animal altogether.

Hi Jason, yeah I have to agree that the Z axis is usually an easier fit-up. The X axis can be a fiddly affair but as per Part 1, this one ended up being the easier fit. Cam

G'Day Kevin, yes I hate seeing cables just loosely "hanging around" so I loke Drag Chains in these situations. Cam

Hi Cam . What's your opinion on Sino v Easson apart from the price . For professional , not hobby use . I may be fitting dro's to a couple of my machines in the future , possibly Easson . I would always think about a miss read & stuffing up a part with the cheap ones . Cheers .

I do have an Easson unit on the Victor Mill I bought and must admit the feel between the two as far as pushing the buttons and operating is about the same. The buttons do feel a little tiny on both units when pressed. The Easson units hardware for fit-up is much nicer in finish than the Sino. I have the cheaper units on my other lathe and I do get some drift on the Z axis over machining time that I just can't figure out. I make sure I always leave meat on and re-zero at my datum point prior to the final finish cuts. I'm aware of this and allow for it, I haven't seen the same drift in the Sino unit and I have run it backwards and forwards full stoke and it always comes back to zero on the dial indicator. If it stays this way only time will tell but so far so good. I guess if you buy the Easson unit you are paying for quality in operation with constant repeatability day in day out. This is obviously critical and one error on a large piece of stock due to drift and you could have purchased a dozen Easson units. The other benefit of purchasing the Easson unit is that it is supported locally so I would assume any issues or questions would be dealt with in a timely manner and in English. If it where me setting up a commercial business I would pay for the peace of mind and go with the best quality I could afford. Cam
