Notice that there is only one bolt hole in the large sprocket that actually fits the bolt, the other ones are larger. That is so you can tune the camshaft/injection timing precisely. The exhaust valve should open 10 degrees before and inlet vale should close 10 degrees after TDC. If it doesn't then you can shift the sprocket around to make it correct.

Hi kev just want to say how good and informative this has been I am a mechanic nut couldn't find good info on setting the 23c up just done mine by your vid and it fun and starts as well as a perkins 3 cylinder keep vid coming

Great stuff. Love the informative videos. One thing I might mention is that I have a 23c engine to overhaul after lambing time so I will need you to finish and post the remaining videos before then. 😂

I thought that if no1 was rocking no4 cyl is on firing stroke and you would be 180 degrees out if timing to g on the pump

Hi Kev, if you see this message would you consider doing a video on changing the timing chain and tensioner on a 23c engine "in frame" so no access to timing marks on a fly wheel are possible? other than some written instructions online I cannot find much and what I can find seems to contradict itself. I am sure it would be a popular video over time. Thanks in advance!

Great content, as usual. The 23c is a lovely engine when running well and not worn. I way prefer it to the 3 cylinder Perkins and I find they are far smoother at working revs. Out of interest, did Standard manufacture the 23c?

Hi Darren thank you for your comment, as far as I know standard did manufacture the engine as the engine was put in other things as well as tractors. I would always have a 4 cylinder over a 3 any day.
