Let's Build a Zoo's big central conceit is the goofy idea of spicing up the zoo experience with gene-spliced Frankenanimals. Slap a chicken and a snake together and profit! But it turns out that the game's main hook is the least interesting decision it makes - from a morality system to an extremely detail-oriented approach, Let's Build a Zoo makes countless interesting and unique decisions laser-focused on getting you to actually inhabit the role of a zookeeper instead of impassively crafting an immaculately sculpted park from on high.

Nice I was just looking at this title compared to Planet Zoo! Locking away the gene splicing is kind of a deal breaker for this one though. Maybe its available in a sandbox mode?

Yeah, like I mentioned in the video, they at least hand the mechanic to you very early on within the first two hours, but you don't really get to *do* anything with it until much later and just kind of have to depend on the game giving you random stuff. It's clearly a compromise with this exact issue in mind, but it's a bit of an unsatisfying one.

@@FirstFive Makes sense. Just a strike against more casual playstyles in favor of keeping some things to unlock. Overall still looks like a fun sim though!

@@Deahfel just a note on this - we actually changed it in an update we put out yesterday! Previously you had to discover every genome of an animal to be able to splice it, and yesterday we changed it to *half* the genomes, which tends to be quite quickly. So splicing possibilities now occur much, much quicker as a result

It's a really minor suggestion, but a small detail I like from other reviewers is that after they recommend a game, they mention what platform it can be played on. Otherwise great video!

I don't know where you get your figures for that, but this game made half a million dollars on launch week and is already turning a profit. It's doing just fine.

@@FirstFive How do you know it's already turning a profit, do you know how much it cost to make and what the NMR rev share is? Net it's probably made £300k and if the rev share with NMR is 50/50, half that, and it will have cost more than that to make.

I'm sorry but I have to heavily disagree about the UI. Having everything nestled into X submenus you have to click to do something was annoying enough to get me to refund the game.
