Single shot weapons refers to grenades and the like. They expire after one use.

There is an errata Doc that is out with a lot of updates clarification etc. Quote "Clarification: The book says Mods and sights cannot be assigned to single-shot weapons. This means grenades and other limited use weapons, not weapons with only 1 Shot per round on their profile."

I've really been enjoying this series; you do a great job injecting narrative into the random table results, and your enthusiasm during the battles always has me looking forward to the next installment. Inspired by your games, I finally decided to order my own copy of the Five Parsecs rulebook. Between this and Forbidden Psalm I should be able to stay out of trouble for a while!

I always use the Wild Galaxy double roll for new planets. I also like to use the Combat Events at the end of turns two and four. Both add extra flavor. I also make up (and write down in a journal) the narrative like you do. My crew started with a starship pilot falling in love with a pirate, Calico Jack. She buys a surplus science vessel and hires a crew to begin a life of piracy and impress her lover. Our quest to find him actually led to him stealing a space yacht with a secret cloak screen. A secret organization hired us to track down Jack and return the cloak screen generator. Campaign turn 11 so far and loving it.

To liberate the first planet, Nordic Weasel Games also makes Bug Hunt, which uses the 5 Parsecs engine with Unity military to recreate the terror and blasting goodness of the likes of Alien and Starship Troopers. It's on Wargamevault. Learn from my mistake and give the flamer to someone with an actual combat skill bonus.

Trevor, I am a huge fan of your commitment to play over perfection. You keep the game moving and are focused on telling an engaging story, but are good about calling yourself out with rules misses, throwing down unpainted minis (don't we all have too many of these), and not grinding the game to a screeching halt to walk back little things. You're an inspiration, keep up the awesome!

Your videos got me to buy the game. Hope this serie last for a long time. It's inspirational to see how much fun you are having even if you make little mistakes in the rules. Shows how much the game is well designed I think that small errors dont topple your campain.

You bring the game to life with your enthusiasm. I suggest a laminated card with each step of the combat round so you don’t lose your place 😂. I like the game but think it could be quite repetitive after a while.

Absolutely excellent series! I know it’s a similar system, but PLEASE play a Five Leagues from the Borderlands. I watched a 19 episode campaign from another content creator and the random rolls generated the most awesome emergent story. Combined with your excellent story telling and intro movies, soooo good.

The secialist with the Autogun should be firing twice. I jave a couple of autoguns on my crew luckily and they do a lot of the killing 😁 Specatular performance from Trevor though. I love 5 Parsecs for the stories it prompts you to tell. These reports just show that off in spades.

Your ,episodes are like a fixed appointment 😊😊😊 The only thing i would like very much is to give some love to miniatures you are using for enemies. Rarely you do a detailed focus on them. Who cares if they are not (or bad) painted ❤ Keep going! Addicted subscriber here eheheh

another great episode as always! just a side note, the communicator states "When making the Reaction roll each round, you may roll one additional die, then choose a die to discard." if you roll separately two dice for your captain who has the gear, you essentially limit how you arrange your possibilities, because you may have wanted to use a die to activate him in the quick phase :)

Yes, this has been bugging me too. I had to look back (episode 4 at 2 min 40) to find the communicator rule and I agree - you should be rolling 7 dice, discarding one and assigning the other six. Thematically the communicator is about better teamwork, and hence better chance of acting early. Making the captain roll his own two dice limits him to a potentially bad double-roll instead of giving him the freedom to be allocated something from the whole pool of dice.

Another interesting and entertaining campaign turn, one thing you need to add to your reminder list is enemy moral checks, while a 1 is a low roll you may still have had one or 2 run off the board

I'm sure someone has already said this, but when you use the communicator, you just add an extra die to the pool that can be assigned to any character. Reaction dice are never specific to a character. So, roll 7d6, drop one, assign the rest to your 6 characters.

I lved how you weaved the roll results to create this planet and mission in way that feels very unique And your excitement playing is really contagious! I wish I had this sort of camera presence to do something like this. While I don't, I'll try my own crazy version by turning my battle reports into video stories (with subpar voiceovers :D) Looking forward to what happens next!

Been loving this series. Like for several of us, it inspired me to pick up 5PfH recently. I've played 5 turns so far (using small cardboard boxes as terrain), and think I have yet to play it "right" - always seem to forget a rule somewhere... Still, great fun! Thanks for pointing us toward it!

It’s really hard remembering all the rules as a solo gamer. The other day in my Scarlet Heroes game I forgot about the fray dice for a whole battle - each player character rolls a bonus damage die every round to represent them slashing around at other enemies in the melee - so my guys missed out on a load of extra damage!

A suggestion: When I use my Communicator (also assigned to my captain), I just roll an extra die (crew plus one) for reaction and discard the highest.

At first I was confused that you even mentioned a minor rule misunderstanding like enemies moving instead of shooting. But then it happened like 2 or 3 more times. At first I was soo scared for your team up there, they were shot at so often, how did they even survive that. But then the enemies all got stunned and stopped shooting. I honestly believe, that saved your guys xD Makes sense, that you acknowledge it at least.

I feel like spending a story point should just mean you succeed instead of giving a re-roll. It should just count as a 6. I think I'll suggest that to Ivan. I've been playing these rules since version 1 and I always want them to be just a bit more cinematic.

With a little sheet rebuild/construction and some rules edits this would go easier for you for sure. It is stacking on itself quite a bit and almost making sequence test itself within the games system. After these few episodes I can see where you could make some adjustments to their system and really make your solo play easier. I wonder if they didn't have some updates to this since your copy and made some changes on their end. No worries you are doing great. Don't be hard on yourself. It is a range of keep track sequence mechanics and upkeep. Not just a quiver of arrows or length of time before a torch goes out. Tactile combat mechanics are a brain melter sometimes on your own when you're doing a push. Love everything you do. Just keep enjoying yourself.

Late to the party but a single-shot weapon should be single use - so you can't put that shock attachment on, say, a grenade but you can on say a pistol.

Pretty much everything outside of the battle phase is viable to inject RP into. In this episode for example, the lore of the planet, who the unique enemy was, why he was associated with the cult, why this quest mission exists; all qualities the game doesn't define for you and aren't necessary for play, but can enrich the play experience if you develop those ideas.

I don't want to sound unrespectful. i know that you put a lot of effort into this game, but.. previous games have this interesting stories, that could turn 180 at every moment, there was many interesing characters, their stories, creating a world, with gods and such. that was interesting at every point. here at the other hand - there are battles only, with no character development, no actual story to follow. it's like doing infinitly subquests in mmo - "go to place, kill bandits, here is reward, pls come back tomorrow". I keep watching, but it gives me no fun, sadly :(

I have to agree with your assessment. While the production on these videos is awesome and Trevor's enthusiasm just makes my day every time I watch, this content is a definite step away from the original premise of the channel. For what it is, it's extremely well-done. But this is miniature war gaming with a narrative gloss. That's not what attracted me to the channel. I came for the incredible stories, the character and world development, and to see how Trevor worked with his solo RPG tools. I've never missed an episode of MMD, but sadly I will be passing on further episodes until this season is over. I can only vote with my views, unfortunately.

It is a change from the previous seasons, and it's totally okay (and not disrespectful) if it is not your thing. Trevor stated that this isn't a replacement for season 4, but something he wanted to do as a fun experiment with scifi (a genre he said he hasn't had as much experience with). He acknowledged that it wouldn't be quite the same as the previous campaigns, with all of the back-and-forth dialogue and rich story elements and such. I was unsure if I would connect with this campaign as much, since I hadn't previously played any wargames. However, it really pulled me in and prompted me to purchase the book and try it for myself (I'm two sessions in and really liking it!). Granted, Trevor could probably make a video where he is just doing his taxes and it would still be entertaining.... If this content isn't for you, no worries! You can rest assured that season 4 will come, it just may take a little while. Keep in mind that, historically, there has been quite a bit of time between the main seasons, whereas this campaign of FPfH comes close on the heels of season 3. For myself, I will always consider it an absolute win to have more content from Trevor 😀

I have been enjoying the story so far. We have characters with personalities and agency, there is an overall plot to the series, we've seen two different planets, and there was a huge plot twist with the alien invasion, we saw a new PC join the crew and we saw a PC die, and we saw an entire quest arc. I'm looking forward to seeing how these characters develop, and the conclusion to this quest is an upcoming episode.
