42:16 two things about Overheating trait. 1) you could make an overheating counter like the stun markers. 2) it says non cumulative which I think means 3 would go down to 2 but then stays at 2 until you let it cool down.

Wow, just recently started on FPFH, and so far, it's been all I ever wanted in a wargame. The fact that they have no-minis rule, something that I, someone who exclusively plays on virtual tabletops, has long been searching for, makes this system even more brilliant for me. I'm a huge fan of "theater of the mind" - style combat in RPGs, and I think FPFH has enough meat to warrant a more streamlined play style for people like me who find physical setup of a gaming table to often take all the momentum out of the game.

I didn't think I'd be into the No-Minis Combat until life stuck me in a situation where it was the only way to play. Now I'm a huge fan. I still love miniatures but it really takes the pressure off knowing I can just play a round whenever and wherever I want.

You can use tokens to remember all the small extra rules, like for the energy weapon: each time It shoots remove one token to remember the overheat.

Are they planning on putting out a printed version? Being under 60 pages, I'm not sure. Perhaps a compilation book would be more ideal, and reduce the end cost per page.

@@NefariousKoel I think they've said that once they've published 3 similar supplements as PDFs they'll compile them into a single, physical book. I don't think it's guaranteed to happen, but it sounds like it's more than just a vague 'wouldn't it be nice'... I think they have gone on record as saying that this is what they intend to do. I'm keeping my fingers crossed!

I think your misreading the overheat rule on the plasma and hyper rifles. If you fire 3 shots on turn one, on turn 2 you can only fire 2 shots. [but then] On round 3 you are back to 3 shots because the rule says its non cumulative. If you fire 3 shots on round three, you go back down to two shots in round 4. At least this is how I am intterpretating this rule. Maybe I missed something but from what I saw this is how it works. Granted, it is more book keeping but that is what you use chits for, so you can remember. Great video thank you.

Wait... doesn't the "non-cumulative" in Overheat (for the Dramatc weapons) means that you only shoot one less shot? So, turn 1 you shoot 3 rounds, turn 2 2 rounds, and turn 3 still 2 rounds... until you take a turn where you don't shoot, then it's 3 rounds again...

Totally agree about the psionics. I prefer to play without them because I don't like magic in my sci-fi. But the way Ivan does spell casting and psionics is so cool. I like playing Five Leagues very low fantasy, but when third edition came out and had spell casting I had to roll up a spellcaster. Instead of just "fireball" type spells it's all very interesting stuff that you can use strategically in different situations. And the way the spell casting mechanics work feels really good too. So in a different playthrough I'll have to play with psionics even though I don't like it from a tone or setting feeling . The gameplay is too interesting to ignore.

I agree on the psionics. Probably prefer to go without. But then again what are jedi (give your psionic a glare sword, et voilà). Using 5 parsecs for a star wars setting. You can use the legality to put the setting in different era's of the star wars universe. and the enemy psionics, well that's obvious. Could be very nice for those who already play Star War Legions and have a bunch of minis for that setting.

"Melee" is basically mangled in most English pronunciations, anyway, I wouldn't worry too much! Like how for a lot of us Brits, we barely voice the first syllable so it's more like "m(uh)-lay" 🤷 Anyway, another excellent overview! I'd love to see more of these ☺️

The difference between solo games and collective games is that the burden of the rules can be spread out in the latter, but no in the former. In a game of D&D, it is often up to the player to remember that they have a plus something to something, and if they miss that fact, oh well. In a solo game, it is up to the single player to remember that the player can, can't, or should, or shouldn't, for every rule, for both the protagonists and antagonists of the game.

I think the no mini option is great for accessability for those handicapped in some way, but also for those just getting into the hobby. Minis are expensive, regardless how mini agnostic the system is. On top of that, buying terrain structures is an additional cost. Even crafting set pieces is going to cost something, and expendable income seems to be tight (at least in the US, I can't speak for other countries.) If you can slap down a sheet of paper, draw rough shapes for structures, and use pennies and nickles for minis, that's suddenly way more accessable than it was before.

I played my first ten campaign rounds with terrain from my kitchen recycle bin and round markers for character figures. You don't need minis and bough/fabricated terrain to play out a physical battle.

I personally play mostly with printed paper figures propped up by playing card stands - they are also easier to replace whenever crew members die or are hired, and whenever I get too annoyed of their weapons not matching what they actually carry. The core edition even has two scanning friendly pages of small black and white figures that makes for perfect starter for paper minis.

What about a little duck back token? So if you have used it, is easier to remember that they can't move in the slow phase. I like it because opens more tactical options (like risking moving to the open with the hopes of surviving a shot and ducking that extra to get to cover)

For dramatic combat, could the remembering of things be improved by having tokens that you place as reminders? Like a dive back token, overheat token and so on.

Also. Store question: Can you add some items that reference the current campaign and maybe older campaigns? Like in one episode of the first season, you were joking about Simon doesn't/does suck and I think having a t-shirt that says that would be hilarious. Maybe you reference the ship the Vendetta as a design. Just ideas

Was very underwhelmed by both supplements for Five Parsecs. I think this is probably because the main rules are so robust. Would have wanted to see things like vehicle and powered armor rules or more detailed mechanics for buying and selling cargo. That being said, I own both supplements and will probably end up using bits from both of them. The price is also right for the amount of content you're getting.

The aliens weren't brutal because of the toxic enviroment. You just stunned them and they died. They had no chance to even jump at you.

One thing I'm a little confused about. The Lunge attack. It trigger if shot at 6inch or less and having no fire weapon or with a weapon with the melee trait. After that move and free attack, if that enemy is triggered during the fast phase, does it has its full turn afterward ?

This is all great and I own both Freelancers and Trailblazers but have just began my very first basic campaign so hopefully after this I will be able to add more. Another great review! I got into this game solely because Trevor covered it and have fallen in love with many solo rpg and tabletop games. I was mostly a DND solo player but have really lost interest in that genre really. I just had no idea how vast and deep the TTRPG world was!

I use 30" x 30" with 28mm minis.

I've played on 2x2 and 3x3 boards, so yes the KT play area will work, you might want to adjust the range of some weapons so they work better for mat size you are using, I've gone from 30" range to 24" and 24" to 18" just to keep from having guns that are able to hit targets across the board in the first turn

Hi Trevor, thanks for the review, this was an insta-buy for me, but it's always nice to have another point of view on this things!!! For Random Generation Stuff on Sci-Fi, a couple of recommendations: - Augmented Reality, from Paul D Gallagher (available on DTRPG), this is a MUST have, around 50 tables and it's on PWYW - Stars Without Number: Revised Edition, from Kevin Crawford (also on DTRPG) It's an OSR RPG, but the world building part is :CheffKiss:. The free version has like 90% of the thing so you can check if it is worth the paid version. - And also from Kevin Crawford Cities Without Number, the Cyberpunk spin on his RPG series, currently on KS (until the end of Feb'23), also a ton of options and tables for RPG, but hey, lot's of re-usable things there!!!
