When you make the leap from just keeping saltwater fish to start keeping corals, a whole new world opens up. However, hobbyists often chose corals that are delicate and end up dying in their tank. To help you get started on the right foot, here are five easy corals for beginners.

I actually got interested because of the coral, I think they're really pretty adding a lot to the tank. I like fish, I had since I was little but never really got a tank aside from a bad betta tank before I got into reef tanks. Especially when you see corals actual up close behavior is really cool

That's a great question lol. I jumped in and went with a 65g (now I have a 90g with sump with a 40b plumbed in). So Im not sure what a nano tank upkeep/costs are. Like a mr aqua 12l or something that can be up kept low tech with water changes but still looks appealing enough to want to keep.

My hardiest coral so far has been an acan, 12 months back into the hobby and have had instability issues and now Dino’s. Everything has stressed and come back and so forth. Anenomes, frogspawn, zoas (mainly, obviously cause Dino’s clog them), elegance, blasting, hammer, torch. Many corals, only coral that never showed a single sign of stress to anything were my acans and Duncan’s to be exact. Besides the one time an acan was beat up by a nem (which he recovered just fine) and a Duncan frag was buried in the sand for 2 days by a pistol shrimp. They both recovered fine and right now look great even when the others are only starting to look better

LITERALLY could not have found this video at a better time, I am purchasing a Fluval Evo 13 gallon this weekend and am going to take the plunge into making it a softy/LPS aquarium, after appropriate cycling of course. I do have a question though, say someone just wants strictly a reef aquarium with no fish or invertebrates other than soft coral, does one simply place in say, oh a zoanthid after cycling is complete, or are there other processes that have to take place AFTER an aquarium is done cycling BEFORE corals can be placed in? Or is it necessary that there be some sort of live ANIMAL in an aquarium for a softy/LPS aquarium to be sustainable. ~Thanks

I came from the fish and planted side of aquariums because i love fish and plants. I really like the look of GSP and I really want them. I have been reading to create island for certain corals. I have the IM 40 that is going to be my first reef. how far does the rock have to be from another rock. Or we talking 1 inch 2 inches 3?

Man, people are snarky. Yeah, it was fish for me. I'm just in the process of adjusting water chemistry for corals (alkalinity, Ca, Mg) and upgrading lighting to get everything coral ready. I had a tank twenty years ago for about a decade and jumped back in when a buddy gave me a "free" tank about 6 months ago. Man, have things changed. Testing and overall available information is much easier to access nowadays. Looking forward to keeping a reef tank and hoping I don't kill too many beautiful creatures. NO GSP FOR ME!

0:15 I was already interested in freshwater fish, I got obsessed with saltwater fish after encountering a 2 1/2 foot long snowflake eel in a saltwater lfs near my drivers ed where I would hang out if my mom/brother was late picking me up.
