Chris from Rekkid Talk turned 1989 into a mini-vinyl tag. My five prompts to myself to find 1989 records of in my collection were: oldest artist, youngest artist, great debut, someone from another great band, and career highlight.

Galaxie 500 "On Fire" was a biggie for me in 1989. Still play it often.

I have that album but wasn't something I was listening to at the time.

Paul’s Boutique is legendary! I was clueless to Lou Reed in the 89 but I knew about NIN and the others. Great shares!

I think my roommate was the one that got the New York album.

I like that approach Chris: 5 mins, pick a year, in and out! Great stuff there. Trent Reznor is a Tony away from EGOT status: no one was thinking that in 1989! 😎

I do this every month, so next time will be 1994.

For some reason i slept on Paul's Boutique in '89. I was listening to Siouxsie and the Banshees "Peep Show", The Traveling Wilburys and Edie Brickell all from '88. It was just recently (7 - 8 years ago) that i got into BAD when i found "Tighten Up vol. 88". I cant wait to discover more of their music!

Hi Chris! I agree with everything you said about The Ocean Blue. Nine Inch Nails debut. Wow, I cannot believe it was that long ago. Same with B.A.D. As the saying goes, I'm not getting any younger.

No, 1989 was yesterday.

Hi Chris!!! I thought NIN debut was around mid 90's, had no idea it was 89', that's longtime ago..... it was kind of game changer introducing industrial sound to rock. cheers and be well

I was planning to series of videos 69-79-89-99... for summer, but forgot. Now vacation starts and no time, when there is football to watch everynight. I re-bought one 89 album last week, that is featured in my last video... and it is not local hardcore, but something from Canada...

Canada, was it a Rush rekkid?

Hi Chris! Cool seeing Big Audio Dynamite in the VC. I recently bought a different version of B:A:D mk II on vinyl thus completing my studiio album collection from them, properly. Not sure that video went out yet? Anyhow, the record you show is my favorite too! 😊

New York is the last Lou Reed album I would like to pick up. My Paul’s Boutique is a single album.

A couple of the albums after New York are good but very heavy emotionally and not something I listen to very often.

I was the same way with Lou Reed . I did not hear him until he did Satelite of Love with U2 on the Actung Baby Tour....I find it sad that when we reflect on 1989 great bands like you show come to mind but this is what actually was selling and overplayed on the radio. 1. Don't Be Cruel by Bobby Brown 2. Hangin' Tough by New Kids On The Block 3. Forever Your Girl by Paula Abdul 4. New Jersey by Bon Jovi 5. Appetite For Destruction by Guns N' Roses

1989, I would make the pedantic argument that Godflesh- Strretcleaner will up your industrial cred. Where's the juggling

Waiting to get a new trick down good enough to share with the world.
