Chrissy's advantage should have been given at the merge. That would have actually been a really good advantage. The knowledge of how the final 4 mechanics changed when it was still the final 13/12, unbeknownst to everyone else. They can choose or choose not to share that info with other players. They can start practicing how to make fire if didn't know how. They can start planning it out until that game mechanic is revealed to the players maybe at the final 4 immunity challenge.

@@IdoledOut It would have also quelled any suspicion that the final 4 fire-making was rigged last-minute to save a production favorite. And if they were worried about the person who got it getting voted out before the final 4, or they just hadn't come up with the twist yet at the merge... The very least they could've done was give it out at the final 5. Whoever won immunity that round would be in the final 4 so why not?

They really did Jamal dirty, huh? Even if you must make him lose a vote, at least give him more than a Gabon winning strategy as compensation. Like, have it so that the fake advantage he gets on the island ‘also’ makes someone lose their vote if they attempt to play it, so he at least has the opportunity to re-level the playing field with enough clever strategy.

The way you described the Knowledge is Power is exactly as I would describe it. Overpowered since idols were public knowledge in 41 and 42, but the fact that both times it blew up in the owners face in glorious fashion, is what makes it so funny. I mean, Xander's duke on Liana is for sure the most iconic moment of the new era. Xander was never going to win, but the phrase "No, but you can have this fake." Cemented him as a huge fan favorite, and made a seriously iconic moment.

Actually, a vote stealer could be more valuable than an idol in some situations. If your alliance is down by 1 vote, playing an idol is a gamble, because you have to make sure it’s on the right person, whereas stealing a vote guarantees your success by giving you the numbers.

In the Adam segment, specifically around 10:16-10:22, I was trying to place the guy in blue sitting next to Adam. I couldn't place him at all and even looked at the wiki contestant page before realizing it was a family visit episode. Silly me. @@roger_towny_jr You say that, but if Ben stays, Michele goes. Nat plays her idol, Tony and Sarah know she has it she he can organize the vote, and its an entirely different game. Natalie may or may not win final challenge, but let's say she does, Ben is a win for anyone in the final 7, including Nick. So its still Tony vs Sarah, or you send Ben in choose who you want to win between Tony or Sarah and maybe even lose to Ben if he beats them because Nat only played 9-10 days, even Ben would be able to be her by winning Fire-Making.

That surprise fire making challenge was such bullshit. I'm more okay with it now since players know about it and can base their strategy around it, but to have it be a surprise like that totally screwed over Chrissy, Devon, and Ryan. That's a surprise you need to announce early in the season. I can't help but feel like it was set up for Ben at least a little bit. Especially with Jeff saying over the years that Ben is one of his favorite winners. It's the only time I truly felt like the game was rigged for a player.

I know that the gamebotification of Survivor means the "Steal a Reward" advantage is essentially useless and will never get use, but I *WISH* we lived in an alternate universe where it existed in the early seasons of Survivor. The idea of Jerri or Johnny FairPlay or Stephanie (in Guatemala) or Penner using this is just such a beautiful thought, and you just KNOW that Hantz would've used the hell out of this advantage if it had existed in Samoa or HvV. But also like, so many classic seasons (Africa and China both especially come to mind) had genuinely amazing rewards that would've been worth stealing - burn a bridge to go see the Great Wall of China or go on a hot air balloon safari? Hell yeah. But in a era of gamebots, everyone being overly aware of not being on each others downsides, and 99.9% of advantages being completely ass? Yeah, no potential anymore :(

The amulet advantage and so many of the new era advantages are a curse because each one takes so much screen time to explain! And then re-explain, and re-explain. Screen time that used to be given to camp life and reward challenges are now being given to re-explaining how someone *still* doesn’t have a vote, they have a fake idol, or whatever it might be.

Knowledge Is Power is more than a curse on their finders, but it's a curse on gameplay as a whole in the new era! People are forced and even incentivized to play more conservatively because of the sheer threat that it could be in the game, and it sort of just... stifles gameplay. To be fair to it though, KIP has always been a source of entertainment across the new era. The Yase self-implosion. Omar's blindside against Drea. Jeanine and Dwight playing advantage hot potato. Kane getting voted off with Jaime's fake idol. Like, it's a horrible advantage, but dang has it provided great TV.

The problem with Knowledge is Power is that every person to ever find it tells someone about it and in turn gets played by the rest of the group collectively. Okay, so I have to comment on this one, because you brought up the fact that twists usually get two tries, and I agree 100% on the Amulet being the perfect advantage to incentivise conflict (#doitforthesandwich) but I want to bring up a hot take of mine with how two twists everyone seems to hate could be good if put together. One World and Earn the Merge are both twists that would uniquely work extremely well together if both were used all season. Start with every player on the same beach, no tribe until the jury phase, and each episode the winning team of random players just leaves camp to go on reward, while the others stay to vote. In the era of voting blocks and shorter season, I think this could work shockingly well.

I'd actually put some thought into the best way to use the Reward Steal. And I definitely agree that giving it to someone else is the best option, but if for some reason that isn't allowed, here's my thought. Publicly admit you have it and say that, as long as the next reward isn't the family visit, you're going to use it, but you promise to bring the winner of the challenge with you. It's not perfect, especially since it only works for challenges won individually with people then picked to go on reward, but it's the best option available in my eyes if you can't give it away or let it expire

I would only use it if it was like a true bucket list reward item that goes outside the game like Big Tom and Alex’s hot air balloon Safari in Africa. And I can’t imagine them bringing rewards like that back in the modern era, but they should. Would make for interesting gameplay and they could bring twists like reward steal back. If the rewards are truly bucket list items or maybe luxury cars like a Tesla or maybe something like a house, people would try to steal them and it would make the game more interesting.

Another new curse on Survivor is winning standalone individual reward challenges. Everyone in the new era who won one of these and didn't also win the next immunity challenge was voted out at the next Tribal Council: Omar in 42, Noelle in 43 and now Frannie in 44.

Technically not true. Omar was the front runner by quite a bit at that point. He has played great socially and strategicly, so for him to win a challenge made him a lot more threatening. As for Noelle and Frannie, those were technically the family reward challenges as that the closest they got in these last couple of years, which is a curse itself. Frannie was also a front runner at this point too and Noelle was likeable enough to beat a lot of people in the merge besides Cody, Karla, and Jesse.

@@bencalebrod I get that, but you stated any individual reward challenge, you technically didn't specify. While yes, it the past we have seen it ruin a person's game, Brenda from 26 comes to mind if she wins F6 IC. Your examples however, don't really fit the same bill. In Omar and Frannie's case their were the clear front runners heading into the episode they were voted off. Noelle is somewhat different because I'm convinced Jesse, Cody, Karla, and maybe James were playing really hard that whole season. Noelle would of been someone who could of jeopardized the former 2 in the end game more so if they stuck with her. Plus she seemed to be the most likeable, and with her story, she could easily win a FTC.

I doubt this will ever happen, but wouldn't it be cool if a KIP holder was able to either get a view or a thorough description of someone's idol, make a convincing replica, use their KIP to steal the idol, then later in the Tribal (but before the vote), prematurely give Jeff the fake "idol" (similar to Dom in Ghost Island) under the guise of not wanting to have the target on their back? You get a free idol and dodge the disadvantage of everyone knowing you have it because they think you played it.

reliving the hhh bs that was the final four firemaking twist is SO INFURIATING, calling it an advantage for chrissy is SO INSULTING???? it's okay that ben won but i will always believe that production gave it to him and it was 100% unfair for the other 3, especially since she only knew like 20 seconds before tribal

I would like curses if people were actually warry of them. It would stop people from just blindly looking for idols. Make the punishments harsher too

8:00 the amount of shit Ben has received for that upside down has to be more shit than anyone else has ever received for a grammatical error. Since all the "Ben is a bad winner" talk would be shut down otherwise

yea the first one is pretty bad, and the weakness of the concept is very easy to see. it doesn't bond them together at all haha would be interesting ti see how it develops if the benefit of the amuket would somehow DIMINISH when one of the other two has to leave. that would give it a very different dynamic.

Survivor is the one show where I feel like the producers, namely Jeff Probst, do not care or listen to what fans think. This is evident in the quick downfall of the show after H v H v H.

Survivor 41 is one of the worst season ever in my opinion!Knowledge is power is one of the many reasons! Many other reasons as well! Knowledge is power can be used correct if just don’t tell anyone about it! It so easily but in new era of everyoen is nice to one has the ability to lied anymore! Unless your Jesse and Cody the only two new era player who is actually know how to played real 39 days Survivor!

I would argue that there are more than just Jesse and Cody from the new era of survivor that know how to play and lie. Season 44 especially seems to have players like that

@@tmm4195urvivor 44 does have some good players! But 41 and 42 everyone minus Jonathan just wanted to be friends and talk about identity politics!! Jonathan is good player but with the new era he is the third or fourth best player! Xander the real winner of 41 and Gabler Jesse and Cody ll together make up my best new era player! 41 and 42 winners only won mostly because their are women and one black!
