The Tampa airport is so much better than Orlando, it's worth the 30 extra minutes of driving. Orlando is too busy and has too many kids in/out all of the time, and I've found Tampa to usually have cheaper fares than Orlando.

I did lots of research on the cost to live in TV before buying. I spent one year doing this so that I had no surprises when we bought. Also CDD restrictions are different in different areas, I found less restrictions up north than in the new er sections.

A lot of Homes in Florida do not have gutters, as the storms produce a large amount of rain and a gutter may not handle it anyway, and the soil is sand and it quickly evaporates or absorbs.

I saw a Villager mention he made sure to get 6 inch gutters. What is the standard? What would you recommend? Seems you really need to look at gutters when installing a spiderweb canopy..

Thank you for the informative video. I didn’t think about home add-ons specifically Matt gutters I would assume that was included. I’m going to do a little Lol

Mostly sounds like the HOA rules for many Florida condos developments. On the west coast in a condo unit I was cited for having a cloths drying rack (one of those small wood ones) more than a couple of feet from the building. It was in the back, but a neighbor must have called someone. Not much if anything happens in the development without everyone knowing about it. I have a feeling that some people sit and watch out the window, just looking for something to complain about. Since I was a guest, I was told to not be seen during the daytime....even though I was registered as staying in the condo. weird..

I’m from the Live Free or Die state and I struggled at first with the rules but realized I no longer wanted junk around my house. So I purchased brand new home and don’t plan to do anything outside except keep my plants and lawn alive. Everything else I need is in the garage or house. So all the other houses around me do the same thing and you can’t really appreciate how nice everything looks. It’s definitely part of the charm and I’m getting to old to want to cut my own lawn, etc.

I've been doing my homework, a lot thanks to my cousins, garage door insulation, attic insulation, additional wall dehumidifier for garage, maybe bedroom, depending on where the sun rises and faces your house. Lightening arrestors for roof, Hurricane shutters. That will reduce your insurance and is about $2500 now.. its definitely a learning curve, but doable. I've thought about gutters, may look into if i can do a small dry well or two..have to ask. Way more pros than cons of living there. I will be living there by next fall.

Orlando is busy, because it is an International airport which is fabulous. Sanford is more regional, but it is a great airport. Easy in /out. Also as a FYI.....Orlando has Disney World. Disneyland is in Anaheim California. Good point about space for guests. My guest can stay at a hotel. lol. Most people visiting prefer that, I am also glad that people are not able to park all over the street. I have always hated that.

Gary - I would not expect to take a visiting family member to my yoga class at the gym I belong to - so why the concern about the Resident ID and your visitors not being able to join your water aerobics class?
@GaryAbbott
@GaryAbbott 10 ай бұрын
When I go to the sports pool the attendants who check Id’s stated to me that many residents believe they can bring their guests. So I included it since this is not really understood by many who are looking at properties in the villages.

One issue not talked about is the rental situation with strangers coming into the neighborhoods, and the AIR B&B situation, as I checked and there where 907 listings for the Villages, these people being exempt from all the restrictions.
@GaryAbbott
@GaryAbbott 10 ай бұрын
You may find this interesting, if there are over 79,000 homes and you saw 907 listings that is 1 percent rentals. Not sure it is a big a problem as some have made it out to be and they still need to follow all the restrictions or the property owner will be sited.

One new Florida community targeting 50,000 residents is creating a side community just for AirBnb owners. Makes sense.. see Babcock Ranch east of Ft Myers

Far more than 907 rentals in the Villages. You may have only checked one site. There are several sites. My guesstimate is over 3000 rental properties and going up each month. Yes, the renters are not bound by the deed restrictions and regulations. They are pretty much allowed to do ss they please.

Gary, according to Federal law 55+ communities are bound to the 80/20 rule. It provides that at least 80% of the occupied homes have one resident who is 55 or older, and the community must continue to show intent to provide housing for adults 55 and older. The 20% is there as a cushion, allowing some flexibility in age requirements. Just curious, does this come into play at The Villages? I am 67.
@GaryAbbott
@GaryAbbott 10 ай бұрын
I think many misinterpret the 80/20 rule. Now I'm not a lawyer but I believe the federal law is for any community to say they are 55+ they need at least 80 percent to meet that standard. This does not imply that they have to leave 20% to those not 55 yet. My interpretation is the Villages can require 100 percent be 55+ through the deed restrictions an still be allowed to say they are a 55+ community. It does allow them to make some exceptions but my guess is less than 5% are not 55 of age. You are my age which is most likely the average age of a Villager. Hope this helps. Also, thanks for watching my video.

Disney World is in Orlando. Disneyland is in California. Other than to divert water from falling on people entering through the homes doorways, gutters and down spouts just keep your basement from flooding. Obviously not an issue in The Villages.

Thank you for this video, Gary. Something I need to know before moving to TV, please: Is it true that the newer sections of TV have younger residents than the older sections? Thank you for any perspective.
@GaryAbbott
@GaryAbbott 9 ай бұрын
I believe for the most part that is true. The unique thing that is now happening is younger individuals are buying into older sections as properties are now becoming available just because Father Time.

Just wondering why didn't the developers put any sidewalks guessing they didn't want to spend any more money
@GaryAbbott
@GaryAbbott 5 ай бұрын
Hi Pat, In each Village the no sidewalks seems to just work to use the road for everyone walking, biking, golf carts and cars. Now after living there, I believe sidewalks would lose the symmetry of the neighborhood. We do have various paths, multimodal paths, and sidewalks along some major roadways where the Villages maintains it. If you haven’t been you will be surprised at all the walkers in the morning.

I drive a modified 15 passenger van, it will not fit in an 8 ft garage door. So it must live in the driveway. I cannot imagine buying a golf cart. I get about with two different power chair. One is a Pride Victory 10 and a Pride Wrangler, which has the footprint of a golf cart, but is an off-road, adventure type power wheelchair. I am trying to find facts. Every KZfaq video about living in the villages, seems to be sugar-induced high energy, smiles wide enough so GA can catch a peek! All the activities are high energy, loud, as if life is just a very long party cruise ship. I’d love activities, but quiet ones. Book clubs, low tech crafts, painting. I cannot handle over stimulation 24/7/365. Is that possible? Or should I look elsewhere? I have a service dog who requires a fenced yard. Is that possible? Military retirement pay is good, but will it cover full time living? I am currently retired in Central Alabama, but I am a Bostonian by birth. I hope you can help me find these answers. As. Disabled veteran and a single woman, how would I fit in? Can I come and check it out for a few days? How do i do that? Thank you.

Thanks for watching my video. I don’t want to sugar-coat the lifestyle as it’s not a fit for everyone. My recommendation is you should visit an possibly stay in the Brownwood Hotel and go to the square and sales office to get a lot of your questions answered. I recognize that many of the activities even for me would have been better if I was 10 years younger. You definitely have a number of questions I don’t know the answer too. Best of luck.
