It’s important to go to welding school but it is more important to learn how to weld. It doesn’t matter what you do just practice and keep practicing. Nobody can hold your hand. It’s up to you. American Welding Society! Welding schools!

Here is another trick - that I use everyday I do mostly woodworking and some welding so this trick works for both. Get a 1" flat niobium magnet and a washer (or a thin sheet metal cut to shape) and put the magnet on the inside of your shirt, with the washer on the outside. You have magnetized the washer. Strongest you can buy works best. That means that you can just slap your soap stone/pencil (wood or plastic but with metal clip) to it, take it off mark whatever and slap it back on. You can tell how high/location you need to have it by the number of times the magnet sticks to your metal project. Works equally well with screws that are always just somewhere else. (holds a lot of screws, nuts, bolts, btw).

The only thing I’ve ever used a tip drill for is drilling through my fingernail to relieve the pressure of a blood blister. Probably not medically recommended but, it works very good!!

The only problem with the medal template is they take up so much room. I’m limited to space in my rig. Curve-o-mark is a must have for all welders in my opinion. Great advice your the man.

Really enjoy your videos. Check out the b and d marking soap stone. They are very thin and come in a brass holder. Never have to sharpen soap stone again and it clips right on your pocket. Was a game changer for me. I bought three of four of the brass holders and a whole box of soap stone to refill

Another shout out for Koike quick-connects! I bought my first ones like 17 years ago. I’m still using those (both for my torches and inert gas fittings) and the only time that I’ve bought more was when I bought additional hoses, regulators, torches or equipment. They’re worth every penny.

I was watching Austin Ross and he uses 1/16 soap stone. I got some from his store and tried them. The 1/16 thick soapstone has become my favorite soapstone to date. You can get that thin line and don't need to sharpen it ever.

Thanks for the tips. Got to try a few of them. My uncle gave me a curve marking tool (I don’t know what the proper name is). I used it to mark miters on the ends of 4 1/2” horizontal overhead over a cattle guard entrance. First time I ever saw one used, friend of mine marked upright pipes of a pole barn. Marked and cut them at the angle of the roof pitch then welded rectangular tubing rafters directly to the pipe uprights.

Could you show how to properly use a "rosebud", as I am using my #5 it sometimes starts doing mini explosions, then blows it self out. I experiment with different gas pressures and still every so often it starts popping. Thank you for posting the videos.

The red and green quick connects are western brand. They are garbage. I took them apart and cleaned them. I replaced them. The acetylene one will leak when the torch isnt hooked up. Finally gave up and bought a set of the Koike brand. They are doing good so far.

When I was in welding school about 20yrs ago my instructor told us the torch tip was like a woman, be gentle with the holes if you’re not gentle it won’t be no good 😂 and those tip drills are a joke if you even fart when in use, you’re gonna break the bit off 😂
