Fix bad tech repairs - One faulty port on Macbook A1990

Macbook A1990 is a great machine but this one spent over 3 months with another tech workshop only to come back still dead and various items on the board changed.
While I did repair this machine a few months ago to get it up and running again I missed the fact that the rear-most left hand side USB-C port wasn't working still; as such I organised with the owner to return it when they were ready so that I could subsequently fix up the faulty port, and this is what I found...

Thanks, might make another video to detail more about what's going on with the other 90% of the day. Just about to buy and install the exterior cladding on the cat-house ( hardiflex 230mm stuff )

Woooh! Pauls back! Btw: I used the Infiray T3s to convince window installers of ripping down all extension jambs and casing and redoing it all on a window/door today. It would have been faster to install a new set... (Fastest would have been to do it right first time though.)

Ignoring the bad repair, why is it that the USB power mosfets fail so often? It seems to be a common failure on all types of equipment, CD3215 or otherwise. Thanks for the video!

I think two factors really drive up the failure rates, but to be fair, I've noticed on PC laptops they're also prone to USB-C and DC-Jack input failures quite often; 1) Environmental exposure 2) Dodgy 3rd party power bricks There's a real limit on implementing practical input protection schemes, and of course, more with USB-C, the dirt/junk/liquid exposure is a real problem ( less so with DC-Jack type machines )

Often the Chipmunk USB-C tester is an easy way to see if a port is bad.

brother, I need your help, I have an imac a1419 (2014) that drives me crazy, it does not provide audio, the strange thing is that it does provide audio when the machine starts, once the system starts, it does not do so, it does not detect any device, except one that says digital output, I have already ruled out the system, I already changed the headphone jack, I measured if voltage was reaching the codec, and if it did, (just in case I replaced it) and the problem continues, I no longer know what to do, thanks in advance .

Is there a method to his screw removal and placement in the container? I realize he probably knows exactly where each type of screw goes from muscle meroey..he just seems to place them in random spots in the container.

There's a method/pattern. If you map the 5x3 container over the board/machine you'll see I place them roughly in the same positions in the container and they're grouped according to the item (ie, all fan screws together in the one cell).

chunk of blue stuff inside the connector on the board, on one pin in particular

those flakes get everywhere - it's the loctite stuff from the screws. Fortunately because the connector pins contact on 3 sides it's rarely an issue ( most likely it wasn't there on final assembly )

How about a soft toothbrush for cleaning?

That's fine for larger areas when you don't mind spluttering / flicking of the liquid around the wash area. I have multiple types of cleaning options from fine 1mm diameter cotton qtips to a manual or electric toothbrush all the way up to a full immersion ultrasonic cleaning; however in this case, the q-tip was the "most suitable".
