This is the removal of the backcover of a Bosch 500 series dryer. In this video I explain what to test, and clean if your dryer's Lint Filter light is lit constantly. I also point out what to replace if your dryer's heater element (amzn.to/2OkR8Eq) goes out.
You'll need a T20 bit to take off the back, unless you replace the bolts with M4 .7 pitch machine screws. (I said this wrong, a couple times in the video.) amzn.to/2qqBtv8 is a link to a torx bit set that would be useful.
Takes about 10 minutes to do this if you aren't talking to your camera while doing this. If cleaning the connector doesn't fix the error, then you'd need to check the temperature sensor connector from the lint trap in front and make sure that one isn't corroded. Otherwise you need to replace one, or both.
Thanks for watching!

So thankful that you were willing to give up your time to show us and explain the inside. After a thorough cleaning and replacing the element works like new. Also thanks for showing how to check the element.

Thanks, I have the same model. After more than a decade of faultless service, it overheated - clothes were blazing hot - it was painful to touch them. I cleaned out all lint from the screen filter space, and the air ducting. But the next time, the dryer failed to heat the air at all. Turned out that all it needed - after disconnecting from power, closing off the water valve and disconnecting the water supply - was to follow your wonderful instrux for the somewhat daunting removal of the back panel, and a quick depress of the tiny red "reset" button near the bottom. It clicked first time I pressed it, not the second, so I was pretty sure my problem was resolved, and indeed it was - the dryer is now running just fine. Too bad the design does not allow for more convenient access to this button. Judging by the number of youtube vids for "how to reset a Bosch clothes dryer", this remedy is needed quite often. Many thanks - you have saved me from having to pay for a tech to come out here and do what I just accomplished!

Such a pain to access this one part but it did the trick for me. Also gave me a chance to vacuum up 13 years of lint and dust 😂 Thanks for sharing!

Hi Crasoum, A few years back I had to call the Bosch service folks 3 times in the space of 4 months. The third time I was really upset and let them know about it. I must say the repairman did not charge me for the last service call and even showed me the location of the reset switch. He also changed the switch component. Fast forward to this morning and again the dryer isn't heating. Thanks to your video my husband was able to fix the problem and we saved 130$ in repairs.

Hey, I'm glad I could help you and your family out! Sorry the previous services were not super helpful, that's unfortunate and sometimes how it goes. That's kinda why I started working on thing myself. I figure I can't break it worse then broke, usually. Usually. Hope your husband's fix lasts until you need a new dryer, and if not at least now it shouldn't be unfamiliar territory. Also don't forget to clean out your lint exhaust and trap, from your dryer to outside your home while you have it apart. Never a bad idea to clean them yearly. (Per use for the internal dryer easy access lint trap.)

SAVE TIME. Watch video at 4:30 to 5:00, I removed bottom half of T-20 screws, Allows roomto cut back panel right thru screw hole below dryer vent tube. Then just rotate vent tube hold down tang thru that cut panel and remove vent tube. Now you can access the thermal reset button much easier every time it pops. My wife used to open dryer door before heat cycle completes, blowing thermal switch almost every time. Let dryer shut off itself before opening door or you will be resetting switch often! It is on fire in there and when you open door when coils are hot you stop blower cooling air flow, temp builds and thermal reset pops.

Thank you SOOOO much. this was a lifesaver...literally. a large clump of lint was caught in the back of the inside of the drum grill and when I tried to vacuum it out through the holes it dislodged and fell on to the heating element. Your video is great and instructed us all the way through to get to the heater and remove the clump, which by the way was already starting to burn. Thanks to you, no housefire!

Thank you for this. I just picked up my set used, and I am thinking this is why the previous owners got rid of them. It will trigger "Lint Filter" on its first use of the day, but no subsequent uses. I did notice a lot of lint in the exhaust tube, so I'm happy to look into mine further.

Thank you for this video!! My dryer heater stopped working a few months ago. After cleaning filter and blowing out lint through duct, it started working again. I had the same problem again a few weeks ago and did it again and it worked again. This last time not so lucky and was ready to replace it. I watched this video and reset heating element and it's working again!! Hopefully this is the fix for awhile because my laundry room isn't big and requires me to climb behind the dryer to do all of this. I'm no spring chicken!!!

Thanks for making the video, our dryer just started the won't start blinking lint filter issue. I knew I had to give it a good cleaning after a decade of use. I didn't know how to take the back off, this video gave me the confidence to do it. It did take the back off, the vent pipe out and the heater box out. I gave them all a good cleaning with the shop vacuum and compressed air. It is certainly cleaner now but it still doesn't work. I saw the reset switch on the heater box, it seems to not do anything. I am not sure where the temperature sensor is on the lint trap in front, what it would take to clean or replace it. I know where the lint trap is, I just can't see any sensor or way of taking the front apart easy. Do you have to remove the drum and motor to access it from the back? That would seem like a lot of work, there must be a better way.

When you say the reset switch doesn't do anything, do you mean it's stuck open? Or does it read 0 Ohm (Like it should.) Is the element good? (Should read 10.5 ohm, about) The temp sensor at 75 degrees should read around 16.7k ohm at the back connector on the heater box and 7.25k ohm for the front one near the lint trap (at least mine do. Ball park figures here, as long as it's not sub k or mega ohm resistances. ) The front one you can just reach in and pull out from the back, if your arms are long enough and hands small enough, it's just a rubber holder so you can rock it back and forth to remove it. You have to gently pull back the tab to remove the plug. The limit switch next to the thermal couple can also be removed from the back, but you need to use a small screw driver, and again have the reach to get to it. The limit switches should read 0 ohm, if they are open they need replaced. The motor also has a switch that should read 0 ohms at the connector (the white thing, with the blue spade connector covers). I'm sure you can do some of this from the front, but I've not done it and haven't needed to yet. Plus it's a super big pain in the butt. More so then going through the back.

If you don't want to reach in and try and unplug them, you can test at the top connector, the top left teal one is for the heating element temp sensor, The white one above the teal is for the lint trap sensor. They are the ones you have to remove the front panel to get to upper left if looking at it from the back, upper right if looking from the front of the dryer, and not the *blue connector in the middle of the board with black wires (that's for the water mister solenoid, I think.)

I have a ton of lint sitting just under the removable lint trap. Do you know how to open up the lint trap area to clean that out? A video would be great too. Thanks

Thanks for the video. Our 500 started smoking inside. Checked all the exhaust vents, pretty clean... will there be any lint behind the drum cover??
@Crasoum
@Crasoum 3 жыл бұрын
Smoking would usually be lint on the heater coils, as that's the place it gets hottest. There could be lint elsewhere but usually the simplest answers in these cases are the right ones. Otherwise it could be the motor getting hot (less likely) or the wires getting hot (least likely).

I'm assuming the dryer would not run with the lint filter light blinking 🤔

It can, but if the difference in it's reading from multiple probes is too high then it stops from what I recall. If it's all working holding the stop/start button for 7 seconds can reset things, but if you have a fault somewhere you'll need to figure out where and repair/replace.

What if you press the start button, the relay clicks but the drum doesn't turn? The door switch seems to work because the dryer light goes out when you close the door. The red button did nothing.

I'd say check the motor for continuity, should read 4-16 ohms, and if it doesn't then it's done for. This is off the top of my head, so the numbers are approximate, but 0 means short, and anything in the thousands or more means corrosion/too much resistance.

Then you likely need to replace your heater coil, or one of the couple of thermostats. Take a ohm meter to those parts and if any show OL or infinite resistance then that part is bad.
