Nice to finally see the guy behind the camera

As someone who has been into the innards of old cameras - truer words were never spoken. I never realized that a small screw dropped at your foot was impossible to find using in order 1. Hands & Knees with a flashlight 2. Careful sweeping into a dust pan 3. Sweeping the whole area with a magnet (with steel parts) 4. Sweeping the area with a wet paper towel. Little did I realize that the screw was in suspended animation until I stopped all this. I would probably find it the next day by stepping on it with my bare feet - usually in the next room.

An excellent departure from your regular repair videos. Bravo. I'm quite sure my living room carpet is 90% teeny tiny screws & springs.

I enjoy repairing things. And do so regularly. But cameras are a dimension all their own. Just like my wife's purse, they fall into that last frontier into which I fear to tread. I know the frustration that comes with that one screw that will go missing until long after the thing being repaired has been burned at the stake or buried in the backyard. I can only imagine having to add tweezers and a magnifying glass into the mix.

"Mechanisms containing far more parts than ever imagined" most certainly covers my Zeiss Contaflex Super B. I think the designers were trying to see exactly how much they could squeeze into that little body. Should you ever post a video on how to repair one of those, it should start with the thunder clap this one ended with. Thanks for the chuckle! Edit: Now that I think of it, that would be a great camera to cover doing some repairs on. There are exceptionally few people out there that will even repair them anymore.

Someone once told me that small parts “fall into another dimension”. I’d like to go there some day. I repair watches too. That has its on special dimension.

I'm very surprised! You've never seen the black hole of camera repair? Or for that matter, any small repair. You drop say a little cam, when you hear the little "tink" you think it's the sound of the part hitting the floor, right? Nope the "tink" is the black hole opening and swallowing up the part. The proof is how that part will turn up one day when you are sweeping the garage, or bathroom or some other area far away from the place where you worked. Best Wishes to all in 2020, Tom

Great video! Springs are the things that piss me off the most, I think. They'll disappear at the first opportunity. Then of course there are the tiny screws. The rules dictate that the ones that drop onto the floor are actually brass, not steel like you thought, and the magnet doesn't help you find them.....

I have an X-700 that bears a similar resemblance to the camera in your opening sequence-in about a thousand tangled pieces.

Probably more fact than fiction and number two is poetic justice.

hi i really need some help, my shutter button presses down even after the camera is cocked but the shutter doesnt fire, i dismantled the bottom plate and the shutter only fires if i move the mirror linkage manually

can you make a video for remove the om-4's top ?

I think I discovered that 1st law when I 1st tried t repair an old pentax lens. Never did find all the parts. Speaking of that, do you think you could do a video on taking a lens apart to clean fungus? I;m sure they aren't all the same, but maybe some principles are the same.

totally random question im trying to fix a canon ae-1. i realized something was wrong when i put batteries in. it would fire then the mirror would hang up but as soon as i touched battery positive to the door hinge the mirror would return? any suggestions

¡Hello! I have a problem with my camera Minolta x300s, and im a student from Madrid so i really dont know where someone can help me to fix it. Anyway i watched your videos to figure out how to open it (thanks a lot) I also did a few tests to find the problem bc the light from the exposure sometimes works sometimes not (so the shutter dont). I checked the battery, the capacitor, with tester, everyting works fine. But i discovered that if i activate the self timer, works again the light but if i turn off and then in, the camera it dosent work again, so i move the self timer button until it works. Seems that the problem is there. Can you pls help mee??? I ll be very grateful...
