So I removed the plug and noticed it was squished together in the middle. I placed it in a hot water bath and reformed the edges so it was back to being rectangular (vs hourglass shape) and this fixed my error 26! Thank you for this idea 😃

Great job! Thanks for taking the time to share.

Thanks, this worked for me! I actually put it back and it still works, so I guess this cap wasn't seated properly, and roomba's bin wasn't seated properly either. I had error 26 4 months ago, and that time issue was suction motor in cleaning head module, I replaced it then, and it fixed the issue.

I think that is exactly right. The plug is too thick or not seated properly and won’t allow the bin to fit properly.

I fixed my error 26 by taking a shopvac to the filter, which cleans any clog/dust between the slits of the filter. Good luck

Mine has been working great, I believe the rubber plug wasn’t allowing the bin to seat fully. Anyway, good tip about cleaning the filter, thanks for taking the time to share.

What's the purpose of the plug?
@TheLawnEngineer5 ай бұрын
I have not been able find any documentation pertaining to the plug. The vacuum is still working perfectly without it👍.

Its a service port for the mainboard. There are pins down at the end of the channel.

@@JasonSmith-ib1dp So does taking the plug out a good or bad thing to do?
@robertwills70224 ай бұрын
@@georgesawtooth2214Taking that plug out allows the suction motor to pull air from the top of the Roomba so instead of vacuuming up stuff on the floor, it's just pulling air from the top. On the bright side, you'll never have to worry about emptying your bin!

@@robertwills7022 Really? I will have to give it a try.
@robertwills70224 ай бұрын
Removing that plastic cap allows the Roomba to grab air from the top of the Roomba instead of strictly from the bottom- effectively making it an air circulator instead of a vacuum. While you won't get the error, you are making it the world's worst vacuum cleaner.
@TheLawnEngineer4 ай бұрын
This isn’t the case for several reasons. 1. The bin seals to the power head with a rubber gasket. The removed plug is outside of this sealed area. 2. I believe the removed plug was simply too thick or not seated properly and didn’t allow the bin to close all the way. This was allowing leakage. 3. Vacuuming performance is very good after removal.

@@TheLawnEngineer Valid points TLE. Looking at it again, you are correct. It seems to be a "Jefferies Tube" cover. While testing I still get the Error 26 error so seating isn't a problem. I replaced the vacuum motor (because I couldn't get it to turn on a bench test) and still get Error 26. I'm thinking there's a sensor that's causing the problem but I haven't located it yet. Thanks for the reply. This Roomba "TK421" seems to be rebelling.

It’s too bad the plug didn’t fix your problem. Good luck getting that rebel back in line.

@@TheLawnEngineer It needed a new cleaning head - even though it looked perfectly fine. That rebel scum is back to work now!
