Every part of the body can be simplified with spheres, cubes and cylinders!
Whether drawing from reference or imagination, mannequinization helps you give your drawings more life and mass.

This is actually how Cézanne used to paint: his philosophy was not to show reality as the eye sees it, but how it can be simplified using simple shapes.

Stylizing your art can also be as simple as just changing how you construct your characters. I learned this way, but as I continued drawing I started playing with my construction to see what I liked and what I didn't. Now I take more inspiration from action figures and model kits than I do actual people for my proportions. Leads to a unique way of looking at things, and it made me really good at posing my figures

I feel like these tutorials are way ahead of its time. The way they're presented is so unique, there're 3D models, animation, lots of editing and very clear images. Of course there are good tutorials that use a camera and pencil, not everyone's budget is the same.

heres another tip. don’t be afraid of making anatomy look unnatural if it meant that your drawing will look better for it. the point of learning anatomy is to know how to bend, and break it, not conform to it.

Cool, but that’s a lot for beginners to keep track of. If you are a beginner, instead of using so many shapes, you could use something called an advanced stick figure (look up pictures). These do the same thing but leave more room for stylization. It also helps to keep flow in a drawing and stop the artwork from looking stiff. I stared drawing humans in the way this tutorial instructed, but I got overwhelmed very quickly, I see this as a more advanced technique. This is incredibly helpful for working with structural anatomy and more complex figure drawings. Amazing job with the artwork! Keep up the amazing work.

Such a good video 📸 For artists, please utilize methods like simplifying the body parts into shapes very cautiously. A majority of the time, I will see people who are too heavily referencing shapes which makes the art look rather stiff, heavy, sometimes awkward and tight. Suchlike what was said in the video, be sure to exaggerate as well! It depends on style too, as I've been drawing 11 years as a self-taught mangaka in which manga is known to be quite stylistic in Japan, but especially when it comes to capturing the physics of softbody and dynamism in poses, exaggeration is fundamental!

@@ProkoTV oh definitely You are very clear and clean in your expressions :) And mostly because you don't focus on the technical stuff, the physical stuff, those come with practice.. You focus on teaching the mindset of a painter, the internal perspective when avaluatinf a sketch or a drawing. You understand the actual struggles of a beginner (as well as them usually being the same type of struggles of any level artist, just in different hats) and you pin point the small adjustments that are relevant to learn from a teacher. Doing both those things (at least, regardless of you obviously providing more) Leaves so much room for excitement about drawing! And makes it so sooo stress free to try! Makes it fun And with the way you simplify things, Succeeding in progressing, truly, becomes a given.
