I love the fact that you are self effacing and just easy going, making fun of yourself all the time. Some repair techs I watch on here could use their heads as Goodyear blimps thinking that they are all that and a pinch of salt. Thank you for being just a normal (well kinda normal, as normal folks don't subject themselves willingly to the Apple companies plan for non repairable electronics) everyday "dang did you see what I just did" kinda guy! Thanks for the videos and the time it takes to make them!

Great video as usual. I really like the tone, the clear explanations. As instructive as it is entertaining. I have a (naive) question though: by what physical or chemical process can a cap short circuit because of water damage? I mean, I can easily imagine how impure water can cause all kind of short circuits between traces, between connector pins and such. But inside a cap? I don't get it. They're sealed components aren't they? An electrolytic cap can short due to an internal chemical degradation process, I get it too. But here? and how is that processed triggered by liquid ingress?

Hey I also have one of those that was never near any water and didn't have any falls. It had a Vdd_Main short and my dumbass accidentally gave it 5V from a 10A power supply straight to the board... It let out a poof of smoke before I pulled the cable. Do you know what component is likely to burn first?

Those are the symptoms of classic Audio IC failure. Part of the chip has come loose from the board. It's a fairly straightforward repair. Remove the if. Run a wire to connect the missing paid to the IC. Then reinstall the chip. Problem fixed.

i really don't like the way u repair stuff. first of all removing capacitor like that u can rip off pads. second of all putting so big current to damaged board can do more bad. board is looking good and the client can have normally functioning phone
@ststele
@ststele 4 жыл бұрын
Removing that cap with heat would have been more stressful to the board due to it being lead free solder. I do that to keep the board temp low. If the pads get torn (which they never do on these caps), it would not make a bit of difference. Removing that cap with heat however, will lower over-all success rate. It's all to beat the odds. Edit: and 3a of current never hurt any board on vdd main. Maybe a bit hard on the mosfet but it's not near enough to hurt the board.
@matikaczka
@matikaczka 4 жыл бұрын
@@ststele I still disagree. There are special soldering tips like tweezers that u can use. also u can add a bit of Your own Pb tin, it will mix and effectively it will lower down the melting temperature and u can easily unsolder it.
@ststele
@ststele 4 жыл бұрын
@@matikaczka I agree with you there. In situations where I need to be extra careful & must de-solder something, that's how I do it (dilute with leaded or even low-melt first). I have FM-2023 tweezers but hardly ever use them.
@OnYourSquare
@OnYourSquare 4 жыл бұрын
Why take the risk on a high dollar repair? Popping off the capacitor is orders of magnitude safer than using heat. Professionals understand. It's the people who want or are attempting to learning that will knit-pick the meaningless details.
