Hey guys! In this video we went in on fixing some of the issues we've been having with slight rough idling, throttle lag and cold starts with the E46 M3. But once we finished cleaning everything and putting it all back together we ran into some more issues....

usually your supposed to prime the pump 3 times before starting it with the new pump in, sometime not enough air /fuel mixture passes through the pump correctly could of been the cause for that weird hardstart and CEL.. thankfully it went away so i think your good.

You have to reset the throttle. Have to put key in turn to click 2, gas petal 10 sec, let go and take key out wait 10 sec, then turn on and drive normal it will relearn your driving

Couple of months ago I had to replace my fuel pump since it died right after I filled the tank. Like you said changing it with rather less fuel is a lot better idea. I had like 5liters spilled under the car 😭 I hope you’re gonna figure out that stalling issue 🤞 good episode!

If you had the battery unplugged theDME takes some time to recalibrate the s54 (The e46 M3 in general is a sensitive car and time and patience is needed to any new M3 owners )

by time how long do you mean? And is that require the car to be driven? my car has been parked for over 6 months battery unplugged. the rpm goes up and down on idling and sometimes it evens stall. I was thinking fuel pump, MAF and or ICV something within that components misbehaving. Unfortunately i have no scanner atm.

I still have the same issue as you. Up and down idle and won’t start the first crank. I change pump idle valve and clean throttle body. Any suggestions

Did you use Mass Airflow Sensor cleaner on your sensor? Those can be very sensitive components. Looks like you drenched it pretty good too which I'm not sure is best practice.

Yeah we made sure to use correct MAF sensor cleaner and I agree a lot came out of that spray but I did light shake off the excess as much as I could after and left the rest to evaporate for the next couple of hours while we took a break and finished up putting everything back later

@@GenoFoster Good. Symptoms for faulty MAF can include: The engine is very hard to start or turn over. The engine stalls shortly after starting. The engine hesitates or drags while under load or idle. Hesitation and jerking during acceleration. The engine hiccups. Excessively rich or lean idling.

@@GenoFoster Be sure to post a follow up video upon resolving issues. I have 2004 e46 M3 exhibiting similar "lazy starts" and fluctuating idle til warm.

Yes, I’ll definitely be posting a follow up video! One thing I’m also looking into for the EML light issue is the throttle position sensors, I’m gonna test the ones that I can to see if any are failing. Also will have to wait for the part to come in. Thanks for watching and your input 👍🏽

Read the codes and change the fuel filter if you didn't.

I have that rough idling after car been parked for 6 months without a single start, i'm sure it's fuel/air issue but can't pin point the exact cause atm.

I put in a CSL air box in my car recently and I cleaned the ITBs. They were dirty but not as bad as yours, what I was told is to be super careful cleaning them. If some of that gunk gets in it can cause issues. Best thing to do is to get them professionally cleaned OR removed them and clean them. Other than that I dont see what can cause your issues. Cristian Haba that CSL air box is really nice! Thanks for all the info! As of right now the car runs really good and the issues we were previously experiencing are almost non existent or very very minimal

Hey Geno, great video as I am on my day 1 after cleaning everything and in the same exact boat. What did it work for you? Thinking in buying new parts. I did clean Throttle Body throttle, ICV, and DSI (new ring and re-built it), but car is going into 1) limp mode (EML) and 2) It just dies. It is intermitent. I can drive it for a little bit bring it back to the garage and starts with this symptoms. Codes 1632, 1634.

What you said at around 10:35, my car does on a cold start. The little tad bit of fluctuation on the idle. Were you ever able to do anything to fix that? Btw, my car has no codes popping up or anything. That’s the only odd thing I’ve noticed so far.

Matt N My idling issue got a lot better after cleaning all those parts in this video, so it forsure helped. The idle is a lot stronger and consistent right now
