Fixing damaged vintage bottles with epoxy

Too many beautiful old bottles are unwanted because they have chips tp the lip. Bottle diggers disgard them because they have no value and mudlarkers often leave them because of the defect. Here’s my way of fixing them using epoxy resin glue and alcohol inks.

It’s not a product problem. Epoxy will become more opaque with the incorporation of air during your mixing of colors. Outstanding way to do on a small scale on bottles in your own collection. I do it for people, And it’s not like we are repairing Faberge Eggs! I work with a lot of resin, and I have a pressure pot that the average person doesn’t have, thanks for posting this for hobbyists to try.

Wonderful video, James. I feel the same as you about the bottles that are rejected as being "not good enough". I suspect that mindset is a legacy of my childhood & youth. :'( I appreciate the repurposing of finds being done by other mudlarkers. Si-finds does a great job of cutting down bottles. Here in the states old bottles are also rare to find. You about have to own the property or be close friend to the people who do to be able to know where old dumps are let alone dig in them. I live in Georgia and had never heard of it before. I have found a man that digs in Alabama next, state west, he found a real ginger beer bottle from the 1800's under 6 ft of dirt should say clay . How he found the dump he went throught countless records and found an old settlement that had long been gone , all grown up in trees and ofcourse a small river running through it. But like I said got to have connections of some kids to dig. Good luck with your finds and hope you find that perfect bottle you long to find . By the way I actually visited there about 50 years ago when my Husband was in the military.
@findcreate6174

What a interesting message to read about the situation near you. It’s a shame you can’t find the dumps as easily as we can in england (or should I say “they” can in england). Every hole in the ground was filled in Victorian times. Over here in NL I have to drive for 1.5 hours to find a dump site. All the best, take care - James

Hello, my friend, I need to ask you a question first thanks for the video very nice ...my question is, I am making a Whiskey dispenser I already drilled the hole for the spigot, but there is no way to put the nut on the inside of the bottle to secure the spigot (faucet) in place. I saw another video where they used epoxy but the brown one on the outside works very well but looks pretty cheap I like you did it, but I don't know if this kind of epoxy can hold it --after all the spigot is going to be a functional one, my little project is not a decoration only but a functional gadget. @@findcreate6174 Glad you might try it .I just now am wondering if the Teal you have has a white undercolor . It looked to me on the video that it might and if so it might be what caused the cloudiness in the blue bottle appoxy repair . The amber bottle repair seemed not to be cloudy . Perhaps it would help to minimize the teal more than both the blue and green . Play with ratios very carefully to avoid white in Teal causing cloudiness .
