The knob on my Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 (2nd gen) audio interface was making noise when I turned it, so I asked around and was told that it was probably the contacts that were no longer clean. So I bought a contact cleaner.

GUYS!!! BEFORE YOU DO THIS - try my easier method! Press the master volume knob into to the interface and start to move it from MIN to MAX. Do this 5 to 10 times. THE MAGIC happens. Keep on mind that you have to pressing the knob while moveing it. This will clean the contacts. If you want the spray method, you are still ok to go. It's a better to clean it, but it's time waste for all assembling. Please comment if that works for you, It worked for me on the master volume knob as in the video.

For non engineers here, I just opened the volume cap, sprayed some isopropyl alcohol, turned fastly the knob (do 3 times the proccess), and it fixed immediatly. It took 5 minutes.

I just applied this method to my Focusrite Scarlett 2i2 3rd Gen, simply unscrew 2 screws on my model, remove the case and apply the product on the input area of my left monitor (this was the one that squeaked when I turned the volume up/down from the sound card) and on the volume knob. After waiting 2 minutes for the product to dry I proceeded to check if it was fixed and indeed, I can raise / lower the volume of the card without having to hear the annoying noise. I hope my review will help you, any doubt you can reply it and thank you @Little One for sharing this method to solve this problem.

thank you for this video - it helped me. I used wd-40, sprayed it inside the volume knob, turned it few times and it helped me to turn it without any noise. Actually, I had not only a noise, but sometimes my right channel was off while I turn volume knob. So now it works without noise and without sound dissappearing. Thank you a lot

Thank you very much. I've had the issue for years now. I had even started to worry that it would affect my new pair of monitors and headphones.I used Isopropyl alcohol since I wasn't able to get the contact cleaner and it worked perfectly. I'm now very happy...🥰Saved me a-lot since a technician i had asked was charging around 20 dollars for that. It didn't even take 20 minutes

they sell electronic contact cleaner everywhere but i think starting fluid is similar or if you have like O2 (oxygen sensor) cleaner spray in a can that will work too or maybe rubbing alcohol? also known as isopropyl alcohol? if you go this route make sure to get the highest ratio of alcohol and least amount of water. because at the dollar store for instance they sell like 80% alcohol with 20% water so its super diluted and of course water is something you dont want on or in your electronics and hardware. also there's a cleaner spray in a can called Deoxit i believe thats pretty expensive BUT is made JUST for pitch pots! and i believe deoxite brand also make and sell a lubricant spray that you should use to lube the moving parts after cleaning them because the spray cleaner will remove a lot if not all of the lube thats inside the pots. anyways hope this helps! also WD40 isnt always the best option either because im pretty sure its a well known fact that in long run it can actually attract dirt and other debris and make that crap stick to your equipment. I've also been told to NEVER use WD40 in car door tumblers (where you put the key in to unlock car doors) to clean or free up sticky tumblers because again it will attract more unwanted contaminants in the LONG run !!! ok that is all

Not sure if it's recommended, but Turning the knobs back and fort will eventually fix it entirely for me, until it comes back after a short while. As this is probably accumulated dirt, one could try to cover up the interface when not in use, to prevent it for longer. My interface is always in use, so I haven't been able to try it myself though.

Why does the inside pot even get dirty in the first place? It could be a design flaw I guess. This issue is really annoying.

I don't get why you removed the circuit board when the contact you sprayed is accessible through the cut-out in the circuit board. Surely the thing that needed removing was the outer casing🤔 I will come back and update when I've done mine which needs attention. Hence why I'm here. Thanks anyway

@@littleone5126 Hey, just back to let you know I succeeded in sorting mine. Had to do it a little differently as I think mine is the next gen up from yours. The case is supposed to slide off but I had difficulty in doing that so once I removed the back I just stuck the nozzle in and sprayed it from there. It worked. No more crackling. Thanks again for your vid which set me on my way anyway👍🏿

If you just remove the knob you won't really have access to the contact, whereas if you open the case you can really aim inside where the contacts are located

Yo I'm the guy, You won't break anything unless you scratch the electronic board with your screwdriver on purpose. I'm an amateur myself and successfully fixed my audio interface with no help without damaging anything. My gear was out of the legal guaranty anyway and i would anyway never have the patience to send the gear abroad and wait for the brand to return it fixed for a simple issue like this 😂 That being said, i wrote a disclaimer at the beginning of the video, so people do w/e they want, they are aware
