@@master_samwise You could've written literally anything and it would've had more thought behind it. "I'm going to avenge my friends by killing my friends". Reva made no sense she was a Jedi survivor who turnt to the dark side but also wanted to avenge her fallen Jedi but also is extremely brutal in killing Jedi but she was actually pretending to get to Vader to kill him (which let me stop you right there Reva you must have lost alot of blood from surviving two lightsaber stab wounds cause fricken Yoda would have a hard time putting Vader down) They had a gold mine at their finger tips with the grand inquisitor and they cast him to the side to make way for what's her face. It'd be like a director getting the rights to use Darkseid and thanos in the same movie and they kill them off in the first scene and focus the rest of the time on she hulk. Okay rant over

In my opinion, one of the biggest problems with Obi-Wan Kenobi (the show, not the character) was it really had no reason to exist. I mean, sure, if you really needed to, you could say he was trying to stop Reva from killing Jedi or fighting Tusken Raiders on Tatooine, which are both fun and interesting stories, but the show that WAS made existed to make money first and tell a “story” second, which is clear based on how much the show borrows from other stories

I prefer the destruction path for Reva, mainly because my main issue with Star Wars nowadays is they’re having too many force users, especially ones on the light side, existing during the original trilogy. I know I’m probably gonna sound like a snob but I really don’t like that tbh. It takes away from Luke being “a new hope” and the last Jedi to be able to stand up to the Empire.

Here's Reva's Backstory in my re-write: During order 66, Reva and a few other padawans are trying to escape the temple, Vader catches up to them, and they all agree fight Vader till their last breath. During the fight, Reva ran away. Now, she has to live with the trauma of seeing her fellow padawans die and the guilt of knowing she abandoned them. Years later, she is found by the Empire, and they torture her to the point of passing out a few times. Now she is a being of pure rage who is only barely able to be cold and calculated around civilians and threatens the painful execution of everyone when things don't go her way. Eventually, at the battle of the path, Obi Wan and Reva are having the conversation where Obi Wan realizes Reva's full backstory and he uses her trauma to turn her against the other inquisitors, her attempt to kill Vader wasn't her plan, but the result of Obi Wan

I feel like Reva should have been Darth Sion esque, twisted by her hatred and anger of the torture ?, held together with nothing but that, have her be disfigured maybe give her a mask and make her the sledgehammer of the group, using few words but brutal actions which speaks louder than then bullyish ranting. This video gave me an idea for my rewrite, what if we extend the story a bit? We have the first ark which plays out pretty similar to the original show (minus Reva attacking Vader and Obi-Wan's duel with Vader), then we have a second ark where after returning Leia, Kenobi goes back out into the galaxy to stop Reva's rampage (also we get to see the path slowly transforming into the rebels).
@EmberOldAccount
@EmberOldAccount Жыл бұрын
For the final episode of the second ark, Reva is sent to an ice planet where a mining company is suspected of aiding the path/rebels, Reva goes to "resolve" the situation, we get to see Reva kill the workers, the security, and a bunch of slightly weaponized loading and mining droids. Eventually Kenobi catches up to Reva and they have a duel, obi wan manages to take Reva's lightsaber away, and that's when he convinces her to turn against the empire. as obi wan and Reva are leaving, Vader shows up, Reva immediately attacks Vader, only for vader to pick her up, force-choke her, chop off her limbs, and violently toss her aside. Obi wan and Vader fight, obi wan almost kills Vader, but is forced to flee by a ton of snow and purge troopers. (also, when obi wan catches up to Reva, he lands behind her and says "hello there") Thoughts?
@spartansquid5931
@spartansquid5931 Жыл бұрын
I pick the second story, not because I particularly like the idea of her being redeemed, but because I don't buy the motivation you've put out in the first one. The Empire tortured her and commits heinous atrocities left and right but her rage is directed toward the Jedi because they sometimes messed up during the clone wars? Shouldn't the Empire obviously be worse and her hatred the other way around in scenario 1?

@MrDibara
@MrDibara Жыл бұрын
I think I would go with Option 1, but adding a tragedy that still results in her destruction. Since this is THE Obi-Wan Kenobi, it is no surprise that Vader himself would personally dive into this hunt with more motivation than other cases. So at the moment when Reva just tosses aside her lightsaber and gently refuses Obi-Wan's help, *a sudden breathe is heard in the distance.* And Reva suddenly freezes up. The looming figure of Darth Vader comes out of the shadows, from the buildings behind her, *his rage and bloodlust almost palpable.* Despite feeling conflicted seeing his former apprentice once more, Obi-Wan still raises his lightsaber in preperation for a fight, asking a clearly terrified Reva to step aside and get away from there. Even with Vader as his main focus, Obi-Wan still cares about saving Reva's life. He knows what awaits her if Vader catches her. But before there can be any reaction, TIE Fighters screech past the sky above them. And the mountainous sight of an Imperial Star Destroyer hovering above the city appears. All three look up, including Vader, with a visibly enraged tone. *["My orders were to leave this hunt to me!"],* he says. Clearly, Vader wanted to hunt down Obi-Wan by himself, but the captain of that Star Destroyer apperantly wanted to show off his competence to the Emperor and ignored Vader's order in an attempt to seek glory. As transports start bringing troops down on the planet, Reva realizes that Obi-Wan will die if he stays, so she Force pulls her lightsaber back and swings at Vader _(who stops it with just the Force)_ while desperatelly yelling "RUN!" She intends to stall time so that he can get away. Obi-Wan is clearly distraught, he doesn't want to abandon Reva! But as TIE Fighters close in, bombarding the area, he has no choice but to flee as he's been fired upon. He takes one last heartborken look back to see Vader cut down Reva. On a secondary note, I think this could be a good leadway to their eventual duel. Obi-Wan manages to escape, Vader Force chokes the Imperial Captain to death, then he proceeds to fly his personal starfighter after Obi-Wan, tracking him down through the Force. Then we get that besutiful fight they had on that rocky planet.

Great re-write. The only thing I would change, or add, is probably having both the "Redemption" but leads to her "Destruction" Where Reva comes to terms of what has transpired, the truth of her life thus far, and is conflicted. So upon towards the final battle, Reva has made changes in both her demeaner and temperment. Instead of being blood thursty, and hastey, she begins to hold back her attacks. She begins to start questioning, instead of blindly following orders. Could have her in the begining as like a "Mad Dog" of the Empire, and is refered to as such. Even by Vader. For both her blood lust, and how relentless she is at hunting down her prey. Emphesizing her blind rage. So as she begins to unfold her past bit by bit, she begins to realized that blindly following orders only makes her just as evil as those who took her away from her family. So the Inqusitors begin to notice, to the point where they believe she'll leave them and join the Jedi. Could have a scene where she had Obi-Wan in her grasp (probably during a 3rd encounter) but hesitates and lets him leave because Kenobi also discovered her past and tries to talk to her. Which partly works. So now she wants questions, and accidently starts asking them. So when it came down to her discovery of Luke, and Lea, she begins to have turmoil about her next move. Should she kidnap Luke, only to repeat history? Or should she leave, risk getting excuted for tretchery? This leads to the final battle between her and the Inquisitors. Or one that she was more close to, as he/she too discovered Luke, and with last bit of resolve stops them. But as they fight she is becoming wounded. That's when Kenobi steps in and saves her. He defeats the inquisitor, but as he lets his guard down to try and help Reva, the Inquisitor makes a last ditch attack on Kenobi, but Reva makes the final blow and kills him. Ben tries to help the wounded Reva, but she refuses. She acknowleges that her being alive will only endangered Luke. She does not care for the Jedi order, but she cannot stand to continue being the monster she has tried to slay all these years. So, she asked Kenobi to put her at rest. Reluctant, Obi-Wan drives his lightsaber into her, killing Reva, and ensuring that the only one who knows about Luke, is him. And I would also had a moment towards the end, that Ben begins to sense Vader (because I rather they hadn't shown vader so soon) Then cuts to Vader suiting up, and he is informed of Reva's death. Vader, looks off into the distance, and asks if there were any signs of Kenobi. The soldier said they weren't sure, and didn't know what lead to both her and the other Inquisitors death. That's how I would have it played out. It's basic, but still would get a good amount of character development for the characters. Good bit of conflics and resolutions, and good bit of growth for Reva, as well as Kenobi interacting with her.

It may not be perfect, but it's better than what we got. Then again, I think her character should have been one that we hated (of course, we do that anyway), but on purpose, which is where I thought they were going until we saw why she was doing everything she did in the show, I feel that it could have worked better if she did the things she did because she wanted to, for no real reason and that she's in no way redeemable, of course we could have Kenobi try to convince her to change her ways, and that's when we find out that she does the things she does because she likes it, she likes the power of the Darkside, this could even play into her fight with Vader, that she's driven crazy by her lust for the Darkside that she tries to become the Emperor's new Apprentice, it could even be a situation where even Vader thinks that she's too dangerous to be kept alive and thus strikes her down, plus tying into her attacking the Grand Inquisitior maybe even attacking others too. I know it's kind of lazy, but I don't think we've actually had a truly evil character apart from Palpatine in Star Wars in ages and I think could have been cool to see again.

I think a situation where Reva dies to Vader, allowing Kenobi to escape would be the best. She somehow learns the Obi-wan isn't just hiding on Tatooine, but protecting a young force-sensitive child, while also not burdening him with the dogma of the old Jedi Order, allowing him to have a normal childhood, something she would have desperately craved in your rewrite backstory. Maybe one of the Inquisitors managed to tell Vader they had found Kenobi, but when he arrives, it's only Reva. They have a fight where she is clearly outmatched. But, when he tries to torture the information on where Kenobi went out of her, she doesn't give in. Lost in a fit of rage Vader kills her and she dies with a defiant smile on her face, protecting a child like her adoptive family did all those years ago. Also though, there has to be something else to get Obi-wan off of Tatooine for this to work. If he could have been motivated by the Empire's evil, then he would have left many times over. Maybe Luke falls ill or something, a sickness that only affects force-sensitives, and the only cure is somewhere off world. Owen and Beru have no means of getting it, so Obi-wan does. However, the wider galaxy is well aware of this sickness and the cure, so anyone trying to get it immediately sends up a red flag to the Inquisitors, and that's how they enter the story.

How about a slight mixture of both? Reva shows signs that maybe she can be redeemed and Obi Wan tries, thinking that if he can redeem her, then maybe there is hope for Anakin. But ultimately, he fails having to cut her down. This leads him to the realization that Anakin is gone forever and there is no hope for his friend and brother. He than places his hope in Luke, completely thinking that he is the chosen one (hinted at in rebels, I believe). This can lean into the original trilogy where Obi Wan thinks Anakin is irredeemable and tells Luke that the man that was once his father is gone.

definitely better than what we got. my only complaint about it would be that reva still is too much of the focus of the show. for a show called obi wan kenobi, i want to see obi wan. not reva or leia. same for book of boba fett. he felt like a secondary character in his own show. disney sure has a talent for turning a iconic character into a pathetic and weak side character 🤦‍♂️

What people forget about villains is that a good villain needs to work well with the hero in the story. Darth Vader x Luke Skywalker, is ironically enough one of the greatest examples of this hero-villain dynamic working well. Disney seems to struggle with this a lot. Kylo Ren x Ray / Raylo (Cough Cough)

Great character arcs. However, I think for the redemptive arc it still needs a bit of justice. Like a third character in the plot who has also followed Reva who happens to be another Jedi or close to someone SHE killed. The final battle is when Obi-Wan defeats her and she sees the error of her ways only then to be confronted by this other character who also manages to get into a strike position to kill her only for Obi-Wan to speak to them to not give into their hate which causes them to let her go. Thus creating a moment of ultimate forgiveness and redemption between two characters with the help of ObiWan.

Didn't watch the video but I always felt like Reva should've been a main character from the beginning working with Obiwan. Her arc has so many problems. It could even mirror Qui-gon and Obi's relationship from episode 1 with Vader as the Maul figure.

I believe this story would be better Ashoka instead of Obi-Wan being the main character. Since she would be more likely to be "disconnected" from force and hopeless state of mind then Obi-Wan could be since he aware of Skywalker twins and being there to teach them. Ashoka arc would be generally the same, abandoning every of a jedi to hid on a farm world where a jedi on the run encounters her. Inform her that a group of jedi is gathering together to fight the empire. The inquisitor including Reva soon found the runaway Jedi and Ashoka, massacre the village. Runaway help Ashoka to escape from inquisitors but runaway fight them off but is out match, taking his own life to avoid capture. Now discovered, Ashoka is on the run, relearning to used the force for basic survivals. Meeting people who are hopeless outmatch to empire to keep hope, and it doesn't necessary mean fighting the empire but simple help other in their hour of need. (Some like Hercules Kevin sobro version show where there secnes Hercules help people build and farming for other, not just fighting monsters) help Ashoka to know there more way to help people then just fighting. Of course she can't stay to long, with inquisitor hunting her down, showing why Jedi can't be still without risking bring disaster. During which Ashoka fight Reva, learning what happened in Jedi temple, expect not knowing Anakin leading the charge and she captures by the clones to be torture by mask man in black aka Vader. Ashoka won't have a lightsaber in this fight still. But she escape toward jedi gathering ensure of her escape. After the deal, Reva would contact Vader, cold, clam and calculated. Reva inform her master she done what he demand, to locate the Jedi group. Vader would be unconcerned about Ashoka. Ashoka arrive at Kessel to jedi group with help of the underground rebels. She get a taste of her old life and relearn to used the force. However the empire arrives with full army lead by Vader. The jedi gathering was a trap for the dark lord, but with Vader fist clone army, overpower and kill the jedi. Ashoka on the run face Reva. Now prepare, Ashoka use her renew jedi training to overpower the inquisitor and take her lightsaber, to escape. Three choice for Reva, Ashoka kills Reva, Reva survive to either be on her own to avoid facing Vader warth or tortured by Vader and assgin to hunt down Ashoka. Ashoka helping a family from kessel massacre would encounter Obi-Wan, both would talk and explain how they will help the galaxy. Ashoka going out to help people in need and Obi-Wan to teach next generation of jedi, both avoiding to share to much in case either got captured. I know I missing a lot of steps and explaining in the little narrative I given, but the Kenobi storyline wasn't a good fit for Obi-Wan but it better for someone else like Ashoka which won't be out of place for her until after time travel bs from rebels.

We gave up Jerec, Antinnis Tremayne and Adalric Brandl (this one is an incredibly obscure yet intriguing Inquisitor)..........For this and Dollar Store Lucius Malfoy. Though, I wouldn't use the nameless guy from Filoni's Tales of The Jedi (I hate that he stole the name from a better comic) as a better example. I'll probably go with Option B, tired of shoehorned redemptions. Just let a Dark Side user be an irredeemable monster while still being tragic, just for once. It worked with Darth Bane in his novels. And with Darth Maul.

I'd say the redemption could work but make it the midway point, the 2nd half vader shows up and riva needs to now keep up the act of an inquisitor that survived the battle with obi wan because he spared her like anakin Have vader hunt down obi wan relentlessly, burning world's in his hunt. Getting close to catching him multiple times but riva in ever scaling stakes manages to save obi wan last minute. But vaders suspicions rise higher with each save Until it ends with ruva being forced to fight vader, obi wan finally refuses to run and face riva head on in a 2v1, most of the fight is obi wan trying to keep riva alive due to her being the weak link Riva recognises this and sacrifices herself so that obi wan can go all out, in the process actually managing to damage vaders respirator amd even the scales Obi wan vs vader could go either way, obi wan either sparring vader last minute like in the show Or obi wan being close to death but vader is stopped from landing the killing blow by a last minute save from some rebels or something Or who knows obi wan is stuck between killing vader and saving civilians from some sort of danger. He chooses to save the civilians instead Any could work really

As much as people like redemption arcs, it doesn't really fit into the OT for Obi-Wan to have redeemed a dark side wielder, because both Obi-Wan and Yoda tell Luke that redemption is impossible, something which Obi-Wan would know to be false if he had already witnessed it

The problem with modern day villains is the push by disney to make them all so sympathetic to the point where you can't tell if they're even supposed to be the bad guy in the story. I don't mind a sympathetic villain, but disney seems to think that giving the villain a sympathetic reason to be the way they are mirrors real life, but it doesn't; a lot of people irl are just bad and there's no justification for their actions. It's that stupid, "don't judge, because you don't know what that person is going through" mantra. I get it, you want to make realistic villains, but the best way to make realistic isn't to make them all sympathetic, it's to make very few sympathetic and the rest just bad people.

Damn, you didn’t just fixed Reva, you fixed the entire show. The idea of Obi-Wan following Reva’s trail of murders and destruction sounds like a very thrilling storyline. Not to mention, you wrote out all of the contrived and/or canon-breaking story elements like Leia’s kidnapping and Obi-Wan’s rematches with Vader, to name a couple. If only modern Star Wars was written by people with some actual talent.

Destruction for sure is the best answer. Not everyone needs to be redeemed - just like in the real world, most of the time, bad people don't come around and say "oh I was a bad guy." In the OT, obi-wan is very adamant that Anakin is dead, and that Luke must face him. Obi-wan never seems confident in Luke's ability to turn Vader back to the light - he even says "he's more machine now than man - twisted and evil." We know obi-wan couldn't bring himself to kill Vader in ROTS, and him defeating Reva would show a change in his character, him realizing that had he finished off Vader he could have saved a lot of pain and suffering. By killing Reva, it would have shown how he is changing his actions to account for what he may feel was a mistake. It would then be more in line with how obi-wan talks about Vader in the OT.

This is a good rework but I feel Star Wars is facing a growing issue where too many villains are cheaply redeemed (often times in death). Kylo takes the cake for the biggest cop out “redemption”. Luke nearly killed him in his sleep but going so far to join the First Order? To act as the tip of the spear in their conquest and description of worlds? And it’s all good cause he imagines the ghost of his dad forgiving him.

Honestly Riva didn’t bother me too much what bothered me was how Vader acted, grabbed a whole ship with one hand and instead of having the real ship leave while he’s doing it they wait till he destroys the ship ripping it onto the ground to lift off making it look like he easily could have just grabbed the second and chose not to. Then when Obi-Wan leaves the main group to save everyone by diverting attention, rather than go after him alone since Vader wanted a solo battle. Vader diverts the attention of the fleet and follows Obi-Wan only to then tell his lackies to ready his personal ship… Vader is one of the best pilots due to his connection with the force why would he divert the attention of his entire fleet just to fight Obi-Wan alone when he could easily have had both options and stomped the rebellion and got Obi-Wan? Seems like such lazy writing. I also wasn’t a fan of Obi-Wan’s progression with reaccepting the force. It was beyond exponential, he went from being like less than a padawan back to Jedi master in like under an episode. Considering how long it took him to begin to reaccept the force I would’ve liked to see a more gradual progression especially since the reason he beats Vader isn’t meant to be in strength but in control

If they wanted a good (or at least less bad) character, they should have just been consistent, and respect the source material. Which could have been started by nobody using her name. She is not Reva, she is the Third Sister. They use these weird titles because they don't have a name anymore, their sense of self is mostly taken from them. They tell it directly in a comic to a jedi who recognizes them, and in Jedi Survivor, the Ninth Sister is visibly disturbed by someone calling her on her old name. It is very weird that she still has a name, and even other inquisitors are calling her on her given name.

I’m gonna go one step further and say I don’t think there should be any Inquisitors whatsoever, at least not force-users. Vader and Palpatine would not suffer “rivals” or other dark side lackeys. That and I’m sick and tired of the millions of jedi that are apparently alive and kicking still during the Original Trilogy when they should all be dead except Obi Wan and Yoda. I’m gonna get a lot of flak for this but the only “sith assassin” that ever worked was Starkiller.

I think , ultimately, Reva dying at Obi-Wans hand fits better for the whole story line. Obi-Wan would have fought against Darth Vader if he felt he could be redeemed instead of dying in episode IV. Obi-Wan is past his prime in Episode IV. He is still immensely strong, but decides to teach the son rather than redeem the father like he would have if his faith in Anakins goodness is restored by redeeming Reva. Obi-Wans last act alive is to teach a lesson to Luke. He knows that the light side of the force is strong so he trusts in it and Luke to accomplish what he could not.Killing Reva sets Obi-Wan on the opinion that those fallen to the dark side cannot be saved so he spends the rest of his days waiting to train Luke to fight his father rather than fight the Empire. He knows it’s not his place but the responsibility of the next generation to do so. Thats just my opinion

I think writers nowadays, they're all coming from the same college courses. And they're all jaded skeptics, obsessed with deconstructing heroes; but it's so superficial and doesn't fit the characters they are inheriting. They don't understand things like Hope, Resolve, and Purpose, except as writing tropes to be achieved at the end of the story. So they all rather break the hero, cuz that's somehow "more interesting," even though we've seen it done. A lot. They litterally did it with Luke, and it didn't work then either. And they like to write "sympathetic villains," who ultimately seem wishy-washy, and have to be sanitized for their redemption arc. How powerful would it have been to see an Obi-Wan, who having witnessed the destruction and failure of the Jedi order, quietly accepting his new role, and trusting in the force. In exile, not hiding, but waiting for the 2nd chance. Still committed, and still strong. And being put in a situation where he has to choose to act.
